The structural chemistry of meso-aryl-substituted porhyrins has uncovered a bewildering variety of macrocycle distortions. Saddling angles range up to 40 degrees , while the plane of the phenyl groups at the meso positions may be anywhere between perpendicular to the porphyrin plane (theta = 90 degrees) and tilted to quite acute angles (theta = 30 degrees or even less). These two distortions appear to be correlated. This has naturally been explained by steric hindrance: when the phenyls rotate toward the porphyrin plane, for instance, coerced by packing forces, the pyrrole rings can alleviate the steric hindrance by tilting away to a saddled conformation. We demonstrate, however, that the two motions are intrinsically coupled by electronic factors and are correlated even in the absence of external forces. A saddling motion makes it sterically possible for the phenyl rings to rotate toward the porphyrin plane, which will always happen because of increasingly favorable pi-conjugation interaction with smaller angles theta. The considerable energy lowering due to pi conjugation counteracts the energy cost of the saddling, making the concerted saddling/rotation motion very soft. Unsubstituted meso-aryl porphyrins just do not distort, but an additional driving force may tip the balance in favor of the combined distortion motion. Internal forces having this effect are repulsion of the four hydrogens that occupy the central hole of the ring in porphyrin diacids but also steric repulsion in peripherally crowded porphyrins. These findings lead to a clarification and systematization of the observed structural variety, which indeed shows a remarkable correlation between saddling and phenyl ring tilting.  相似文献

We have correlated the Raman intensities of out-of-plane modes of nickel porphyrins with the nonplanar deformations of specific symmetries, i.e., static normal coordinate deformations (SNCDs) expressed in terms of irreducible representations of the unperturbed D(4h) point group. The model porphyrins Ni(II) octaethyltetraphenylporphyrin (NiOETPP), Ni(II) tetra(isopropyl)porphyrin (NiT((i)Pr)P), Ni(II) tetra(tert-butyl)porphyrin (NiT((t)Bu)P), and Ni(II) meso-tetraphenylporphyrin (NiTPP) were chosen because they exhibit significant out-of-plane deformations of different symmetries. At B-band excitation, the Raman scattering of out-of-plane modes becomes activated mostly via the Franck-Condon mechanism. Some characteristic bands from out-of-plane modes in the spectra were identified as reliable predictors of the type and magnitude of out-of-plane deformation. The gamma(10)-gamma(13) bands are indicators of ruffling (B(1u)) deformations for porphyrins, as confirmed by data for NiTPP, NiT((i)Pr)P, and NiT((t)Bu)P, where the Raman intensity increases with the magnitude of the ruffling deformation. The gamma(15)-gamma(17) bands are indicators of saddling (B(2u)) deformations, as shown by data for NiOETPP, which is highly saddled. By comparing the relative intensities of these prominent Raman bands we estimated the vibronic coupling parameters using a self-consistent analysis, and showed that they reproduce the respective B-band absorption profiles. We also identified the deformations along the lowest wavenumber normal coordinates as the predominant reason for the Raman activity of out-of-plane modes. Our results suggest that some of the normal coordinates (gamma(10) and gamma(13)) may be used as tools to quantitatively probe the nonplanar deformations of metalloporphyrins with alkyl substituents at the meso-positions. Out-of-plane deformations also increase the vibronic coupling strength of some low frequency in-plane Raman modes, namely, nu(7) and nu(8). Generally, the Raman data suggest that the excited B-state is substantially more nonplanar than the ground state. The overall larger vibronic coupling of ruffled porphyrins yields substantially larger dipole strengths for the vibronic sidebands associated with the B-state transition, so that the relative absorptivity of the B(v) band can be used as a convenient tool to probe the nonplanarity of the porphyrin macrocycle.  相似文献

Nonplanar saddled (sad) ruffled (ruf) and domed (dom) conformations of the Mg-porphyrin (MgP) macrocycle in several degrees of deformation have been computed. These symmetrical distortion modes were induced in unsubstituted macrocycle using molecular definitions for calculations which permits us to achieve a systematical variation of the nonplanarity varying only a convenient geometrical parameter of the molecule. Series of nonplanar macrocycles like those synthesized in previous works employing peripheral substitutions are obtained. The procedure here used to induce deformations gives the possibility of investigating the modulator role of the out-of-plane distortions on the geometry and electronic properties of the porphyrin avoiding additional influences due to the substituents or the surrounding protein scaffolding.  相似文献

The photophysical properties for a series of free-base arylethynyl porphyrins and the corresponding trans-disubstituted tetraphenylporphyrin (H(2)TPP) derivatives lacking arylethynyl functionalities have been studied via electronic absorption and emission spectroscopy in both neutral and diacid forms. Enhanced substituent effects on porphyrin absorption spectra are observed in the arylethynyl porphyrins relative to the H(2)TPP derivatives, owing to the presence of the ethynyl spacer that allows for a coplanar geometry between the porphyrin macrocycle and the appended phenyl substituents. Upon protonation, both series of porphyrins exhibit substantially red shifted absorption and emission spectra and enhanced oscillator strengths, with the magnitude of the spectral shifts being more substantial in the presence of the ethynyl functionalities. Spectral features of the arylethynyl porphyrin bearing p-dimethylamino substituents closely resemble those previously classified as "hyperporphyrin spectra" and are indicative of excited-state charge-transfer character. Protonation of both series of porphyrins results in reduced fluorescence lifetimes and enhanced nonradiative decay rates, and the impact of protonation on these parameters is attenuated in the presence of the arylethynyl functionalities. Our results coupled with previous structural data showing that arylethynyl porphyrins exhibit less structural distortion upon diacid formation relative to H(2)TPP further substantiate the proposal that significant alteration of porphyrin photophysical properties upon diacid formation can be attributed to nonplanar structural distortions induced by protonation.  相似文献

Nickel(II) complexes of cycloalkanoporphyrins (CAPs) bearing a saturated carbon ring of varying size between pyrrole C(beta) and methine bridge carbon atoms are widespread in crude oil and related organic rich sediments. We have synthesized a series of NiCAPs containing meso,beta-ethano (NiCAP5), meso,beta-propano (NiCAP6), and meso,beta-butano (NiCAP7) groups and applied UV-visible absorption and resonance Raman (RR) spectroscopies to investigate the effects of the exocyclic ring size on the porphyrin structure and to establish vibrational CAP marker frequencies for petroporphyrins in fossil fuels. The RR spectra of NiCAPs, excited at or near porphyrin Soret ( approximately 400 nm) and Q (510-580 nm) bands are informative and display a rich array of skeletal and alkyl substituent modes. High-frequency (1300-1700 cm(-)(1)) structure-sensitive RR bands shift down considerably (up to 24 cm(-)(1)) with increasing size of the exocyclic ring, implicating increased nonplanar distortions of the tetrapyrrole macrocycle. Unlike in other petroporphyrins studied thus far, etio- and tetrahydrobenzoporphyrins, out-of-plane distortions of the porphyrin imposed by the meso,beta-cycloalkano ring are also sufficient to destroy the center of symmetry of the porphyrin pi-system and produce significant enhancement of the IR-active E(u) skeletal modes in the Q-band-excited RR spectra. The UV-visible absorption spectra also vary with the size of the exocyclic ring; both the Soret and Q bands progressively red shift as the cycloalkano chain becomes longer, implying a destabilization of the two highest occupied pi orbitals in NiCAP6 and NiCAP7. In addition, the size of the exocyclic ring in NiCAPs can be readily determined from the frequency of the approximately 900 cm(-)(1) marker band and the characteristic patterns of skeletal and substituent bands in the 700-1200 and nu(4) ( approximately 1380 cm(-)(1)) regions.  相似文献

The features of porphyrins defining their functionality are related to their conformational flexibility. The degree of nonplanarity of metalloporphyrins depends directly on the number of substituents, their size and their location. The introduction of substituents in the meso positions of β‐substituted porphyrins increases the steric interaction and leads to distortions of the porphyrin core. Increasing the distortion of the porphyrin core would augment the bathochromic (red) shift of the electronic absorption spectra. A new nonsymmetrical 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18‐octaethyl‐5‐[(methylimino)methyl]porphyrin complex of palladium(II), [Pd(C38H47N5)], was synthesized and characterized by NMR, mass spectrometry and X‐ray analysis. The features of the electronic absorption spectrum of the synthesized complex are explained by the planarity of the porphyrin core and the π‐system of the imino group orthogonal to it.  相似文献

Resonance Raman (RR) spectra are reported for mesoporphyrin IX bound to the Fab fragment of the ferrochelatase antibody 7G12. Binding induces activation of a Raman band at 680 cm(-1), which is assigned to an out-of-plane porphyrin vibration, gamma15. This is exactly the predicted effect of distorting mesoporphyrin to the geometry of N-methylmesoporphyrin IX, the 7G12 hapten, based on DFT/CIS modeling of the RR spectrum. The modeling also shows that the pyrrole ring that is tilted out of the porphyrin plane bears a nitrogen lone pair, which is therefore available for coordination by an incoming metal ion. The 680 cm(-1) band intensity is approximately 3 times higher for the affinity-matured antibody than for the germline precursor antibody, while intermediate values are found for variants in which germline residues are mutated to mature residues or vice versa. Thus, RR spectroscopy reveals an evolution from weak substrate distortion in the germline antibody to strong substrate distortion in the affinity-matured antibody, and supports the view that catalysis involves a substrate strain mechanism.  相似文献

The ground- and excited-state properties of a Ni(II) porphyrin bearing peripheral alkylthio group, NiOMTP (OMTP = 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octakis methylthio porphyrinate) have been investigated by steady-state and time-resolved absorption spectrometry and DFT/TDDFT theoretical methods. Several conformations corresponding to different deformations of the porphyrin core and to different orientations of the alkylthio groups have been theoretically explored. The nearly degenerate, purely ruffled D(2d) and hybrid (ruffled with a modest degree of saddling) D(2) conformations, both characterized by an up-down (ud) orientation of the vicinal methylthio groups are by far the preferred conformations in the "gas phase". In contrast to NiOEP, it is the orientation of the peripheral substituents rather than the type and degree of distortions of the porphyrin core that determines the stability of the NiOMTP conformers. The ground-state electronic absorption spectra of NiOMTP exhibit significant changes compared to its parent NiP and beta-alkylated analogues, such as NiOEP, resulting in a considerable red shift of the B and the Q bands, intensification and broadening of the Q band, and additional weak absorptions in the region between the Q and B bands. These spectral changes can be understood in terms of the electronic effects of the methylthio groups with nonplanar distortions of the porphyrin ring playing a very minor role. Transient absorption measurements with sub-picosecond resolution performed in toluene and TDDFT calculations reveal that following photoexcitation, NiOMTP deactivates by the pathway 1(pi,pi) --> 3(d(z2),d(x2-y2))--> ground state. The (d,d) state exhibits complex spectral evolution over ca. 8 ps, interpreted in terms of vibrational relaxation and cooling. The cold ligand-field excited state decays with a lifetime of 320 ps. At variance with the highly distorted nickel porphyrins but similar to the planar analogues, the (d,d) spectrum of NiOMTP has transient absorption bands immediately to the red of the bleaching of the ground-state Q and B bands.  相似文献

The absorption and resonance Raman (RR) spectra of the bis-N-methylimidazole, bis-1,5-dicyclohexylimidazole, and bis-pyridine complexes of the meso-alphaalphabetabeta and meso-alphabetaalphabeta atropisomers of Fe(II)-tetrakis(o-pivalamidophenyl)porphyrins (Fe(II)TpivPP) were obtained in methylene chloride. The different spatial arrangements of the o-pivalamide pickets in these two Fe(II)TpivPP compounds are expected to control the absolute and relative positions of the axial ligand rings with respect to the Fe-N(pyrrole) bonds. In particular, the spectroscopic data obtained for the bis-N-methylimidazole and bis-dicyclohexylimidazole complexes of the Fe(II)[alphabetaalphabeta-TpivPP] derivative showed the most important differences. Redshifts of the B and Q absorption bands (+ 4-5 nm) as well as an upshift of the low frequency nu(8) RR mode (+ 5 cm(-)(1)) were observed. No shift of the skeletal high frequency modes was detected. These spectral effects were associated with a change in relative position of the axial imidazole rings from nearly parallel in the bis-N-methylimidazole complex to nearly perpendicular in the bis-dicyclohexylimidazole complex. On the basis of stereochemical considerations as well as previous spectroscopic investigations, the data were interpreted in terms of change in porphyrin structure from planar to saddled. Complementing to a parallel study on bis-base Fe(II) "basket handle" porphyrin complexes, this spectroscopic investigation provides an additional means to distinguish planar, ruffled, and saddled conformations for ferrous hemes included in proteins.  相似文献

TDDFT calculations confirm a controversial proposal by DiMagno and co-workers that ruffling distortions, by themselves, do not bring about sizable red shifts in the electronic absorption spectra of "simple" nontransition-metal porphyrins. We now report that the same also holds for saddling distortions. The situation is more complex for transition metal porphyrins. For example, ruffling does bring about strong red shifts in the electronic spectra of nickel porphyrins because of a specific metal(d)-porphyrin(pi) orbital interaction.  相似文献

To investigate the effects of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents upon the reaction of porphyrins with osmium tetraoxide, and the pinacol-pinacolone rearrangement of the resulting diols, a series of meso-substituted porphyrins were prepared by total synthesis. Porphyrins with electron-donating substitutents at the meso-positions gave vic-dihydroxychlorins in which the adjacent pyrrole subunit was predominantly oxidized. No such selectivity was observed in a porphyrin containing a methoxycarbonyl as the electron-withdrawing group, whereas a formyl substituent again resulted in oxidation at the pyrrole unit adjacent to the meso-substituent. Under pinacol-pinacolone conditions, vic-dihydroxy chlorins containing 4-methoxyphenyl or 3,5-dimethoxyphenyl groups at the meso-position showed preferential migration of the ethyl group over the methyl group to give 8-ketochlorins, whereas the diol with an n-heptyl substituent under similar reaction conditions gave both 7- and 8-ketochlorins. In contrast, the diol containing a meso-formyl substituent produced the corresponding 7-ketochlorin exclusively. These results indicate that it is not possible to predict the reactivity of meso-substituted porphyrins in the osmium tetraoxide reaction nor the general substituent migratory aptitudes in the pinacol-pinacolone rearrangement based on simple electronic arguments, most likely because many parameters (e.g., meso-beta-pyrrolic steric crowding and long-range electronic effects) ultimately determine the reactivity. The structural assignments of the porphyrin diols and the keto-analogues were confirmed by extensive (1)H NMR studies; some of the dihydroxychlorins and ketochlorins were found to display unusual features in their (1)H NMR spectra.  相似文献

利用密度泛函理论(DFT)计算了5-单苯基卟啉(H2MPP)的几何结构和拉曼振动频率. 计算表明, 单个次甲基位置上的苯基取代降低了卟啉骨架大环的对称性. 苯基团取代对次甲基位置附近结构的影响较大, 而对吡咯环结构的影响较小. 计算给出的拉曼振动频率(校正因子为0.971)与实验测量数据吻合较好, 均方根误差(RMS)小于6.7 cm-1. 根据理论计算结果对实测拉曼光谱进行了指认, 计算分析和实验观察同时表明, 单个次甲基位置上的苯基取代导致卟啉大环的一些平面内简正振动, 如ν6、ν20、ν24和ν32等简正振动发生分裂. 分析认为其根本原因为单苯基取代导致的卟啉骨架大环对称性的降低.  相似文献

To better understand the effects of diverse substituents on reactions leading to porphyrins, pyrrole+aldehyde condensations and related reactions of dipyrromethanes were examined. The course of pyrrole+aldehyde condensations was investigated by monitoring the yield of porphyrin (by UV-Vis spectroscopy), reaction of aldehyde (by TLC), and changes in the composition of oligomers (by laser desorption mass spectrometry). Reaction reversibility was examined via exchange experiments. Reversibility of reactions leading to porphyrin was further probed with studies of dipyrromethanes. The reaction course was found to depend on the nature of the substituent and the acid catalyst. Alkyl or electron-donating substituents displayed levels of reversibility (exchange/scrambling) on par or greater than that of the phenyl substituent, whereas electron-withdrawing or sterically bulky substituents exhibited little to no reversibility. The results obtained provide insight into the electronic and steric effects of different substituents and should facilitate the design of synthetic plans for preparing porphyrinic macrocycles.  相似文献

Reliable energetic data on the conformational flexibility of organic molecules are important ingredients to better understand the adsorption of such molecules on solid surfaces. Herein, the conformational flexibility of the phenyl substituents in metallo tetraphenyl porphyrins (M-TPP, M = Zn, Co) and metallo tert-butyl tetraphenyl porphyrins (M-TTBPP, M = Zn, Co) has been studied in detail for the first time using density-functional methods. For each molecule, a relaxed two-dimensional potential energy surface scan has been calculated for the two angles describing the rotation and the out-of-plane bending of the phenyl substituents. The results quantify that the molecules are rather flexible close to the energetic minimum while more extreme twisting or tilting of the phenyl substituents results in high-energy deformations of the porphyrin core from planarity due to steric repulsions of adjacent hydrogen atoms.  相似文献

The mass spectra of lead dioxide oxidation products of three etiotype porphyrins and one meso-substituted etiotype porphyrin have been analyzed. The meso-tetraoxo products formed, fragment upon electron-impact to give mono-, di-, and tri-pyrrole fragments with the pyrrole substituents still intact. From this fragment information it is possible to differentiate many isomeric alkyl porphyrins. Due to the inability to assign exact positions to the substituents on each pyrrole unit, however, definite isomeric identification is impossible without further information. High resolution gas chromatography retension data of volatile (trimethylsiloxy) SiIV derivatives may eventually provide the necessary additional information to make absolute structural assignment possible. The described method has been designed to prove detailed structural information about geoporphyrin materials. Geochemical conclusions from such data should help provide information about the origin of organic materials and thus help establish possible connections with early life processes.  相似文献

General syntheses have been developed for meso-substituted porphyrins with one or two substituents in the 5,10-positions and no beta substituents. 5-Substituted porphyrins with only one meso substituent are easily prepared by an acid-catalyzed condensation of dipyrromethane, pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde, and an appropriate aldehyde using a "[2+1+1]" approach. Similarly, 5,10-disubstituted porphyrins are accessible by simple condensation of unsubstituted tripyrrane with pyrrole and various aldehydes using a "[3+1]" approach. The yields for these reactions are low to moderate and additional formation of either di- or monosubstituted porphyrins due to scrambling of the intermediates is observed. However, the reactions can be performed quite easily and the desired target compounds are easily removed due to large differences in solubility. A complementary and more selective synthesis involves the use of organolithium reagents for S(N)Ar reactions. Reaction of in situ generated porphyrin (porphine) with 1.1-8 equivalents of RLi gave the monosubstituted porphyrins, while reaction with 3-6 equivalents of RLi gave the 5,10-disubstituted porphyrins in yields ranging from 43 to 90 %. These hitherto almost inaccessible compounds complete the series of different homologues of A-, 5,15-A(2)-, 5,10-A(2)-, A(3)-, and A(4)-type porphyrins and allow an investigation of the gradual influence of type, number, and regiochemical arrangement of substituents on the properties of meso-substituted porphyrins. They also present important starting materials for the synthesis of ABCD porphyrins and are potential synthons for supramolecular materials requiring specific substituent orientations.  相似文献

The 13C and proton NMR spectra of six porphyrins bearing the substituent orientation characteristic of the natural “Type-IX” arrangement are reported and assigned. Significant concentration effects in the spectra of the free base porphyrins, together with the broadening of the Cα (and occasionally Cβ) carbon resonances due to NH tautomerism caused a significant loss of data in these spectra. However, the spectra of the corresponding zinc(II) porphyrins (with addition of excess pyrrolidine) show that both these extraneous effects are completely removed to give well-resolved spectra with accurately reproducible chemical shifts. These spectra are assigned and an analysis of the chemical shifts allows the deduction of substituent chemical shift (SCS) parameters for the peripheral substituents at the beta and meso carbons. There is no global effect of these beta substituents, the beta carbon SCS being confined to the immediate pyrrole ring, and the meso carbon SCS to the two adjacent pyrrole rings. The SCS parameters are analyzed and it is shown how they can be used to predict the peripheral and meso carbon chemical shifts of any porphyrin bearing the substituents discussed.  相似文献

Current applications in porphyrin chemistry require the use of unsymmetrically substituted porphyrins. Many current industrial interests in optics and biomedicine require systems with either push-pull (electron-donating and -withdrawing groups) or amphiphilic systems (hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups). In this context we present the class of 5,10-A(2)B(2)-type porphyrins for which two different substituents are positioned in diagonally opposite meso positions. Thus, the intramolecular dipole moment in these tetrapyrroles is positioned along a β-β vector passing through two pyrrole rings. This is opposite to the situation of the frequently used 5,15-A(2)BC porphyrins for which the dipole moment is oriented along a meso-meso axis. We have elaborated syntheses of the 5,10-A(2)B(2) porphyrins by using transition-metal-catalyzed transformations of 5,10-A(2) porphyrins or direct substitutions reactions thereof; this gives the target molecules in 22-77% overall yields. The compounds exhibit interesting structural, spectroscopic, and optical features and can serve as building blocks for new porphyrin arrays and applications.  相似文献

A series of 5-substituted 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindoles were prepared by reacting 4-substituted cyclohexanones with phenylhydrazones derived from esters of acetoacetic acid under Knorr-type reaction conditions. Related 6,6-dimethyltetrahydroindoles were also prepared by reacting dimedone with oximes by the Knorr pyrrole syntheses, followed by selective reduction of the remaining ketone moiety with diborane. The substituted tetrahydroindoles were regioselectively oxidized with lead tetraacetate to give the related 7-acetoxy derivatives, and these reacted with 5-unsubstituted pyrrole esters to give pyrrolyltetrahydroindoles. In one case, a bromo substituent was used to protect the β-position of the pyrrole reactant. Cleavage of the benzyl ester protective groups with hydrogen over Pd/C, which also removes the bromo-protective group, gave four dipyrrole carboxylic acids. These were condensed with a dipyrrylmethane dialdehyde using the MacDonald ‘2+2’ condensation to give substituted porphyrins with six-membered exocyclic rings. These structures are useful for comparison to porphyrin samples found in organic-rich sediments such as oil shales and petroleum. The presence of methyl substituents on the six-membered ring for the tetrahydroindole precursors slightly decreases the yields for porphyrin synthesis, and this effect is enhanced when the system becomes more sterically crowded due to the presence of an ethyl group of the adjacent pyrrole ring. 5-Alkyl substituted tetrahydroindoles were also converted to tetrapropanoporphyrins via a cyclotetramerization procedure. The alkyl substituents again decreased the yields, although 5-alkyl substituents were found to have a far less deleterious effect than 6-alkyl groups. In addition to providing samples to help assign the vibrational spectra of geoporphyrin samples, these results demonstrate that highly substituted porphyrin systems can be prepared from tetrahydroindole derivatives.  相似文献
