The equilibrium and buckling equations are derived for the lateral buckling of a prismatic straight beam. A consistent finite strain constitutive law is used, which is based on a hyperelastic model for an isotropic material. The kinematics of the cross-sectional deformations are based on a Timoshenko type beam displacement of the cross-sectional plane using Euler angles and two shear finite rotations coupled with warping taken normal to the displaced plane. Also derived are the second order approximations to the displacements, curvatures, twist and internal actions. The constitutive relationships for the internal actions reveal new coupling terms between the bending moments, torsion and bimoment, which are functions of the cross-sectional warping and shear deformations. New Wagner type nonlinear torsion terms are derived which are functions of the warping of the cross-sectional plane, and are coupled to the twisting and shear deformations of the cross-section. Solutions are determined for the lateral buckling of a prismatic monosymmetric beam under pure bending and the flexural–torsional buckling under axial compression. For the flexural–torsional buckling problem it is found that the Euler type column buckling formula is consistent with Haringx’s column buckling formula while the torsional buckling formula is different to conventional equations. The second variation of the total potential is also derived. The effects of shear deformations are explored by examining the non-dimensional lateral buckling equation for a simply supported beam.  相似文献

The purpose of this theoretical work is to present a stabilization problem of beam with shear deformations and rotary inertia effects. A velocity feedback and particular polarization profiles of piezoelectric sensors and actuators are introduced. The structure is described by partial differential equations with time-dependent coefficient including transverse and rotary inertia terms, general deformation state with interlaminar shear strains. The first order deformation theory is utilized to investigate beam vibrations. The beam motion is described by the transverse displacement and the slope. The almost sure stochastic stability criteria of the beam equilibrium are derived using the Liapunov direct method. If the axial force is described by the stationary and continuous with probability one process the classic differentiation rule can be applied to calculate the time-derivative of functional. The particular problem of beam stabilization due to the Gaussian and harmonic forces is analyzed in details. The influence of the shear deformations, rotary inertia effects and the gain factors on dynamic stability regions is shown.  相似文献

The non-linear equations of motion of a slender bar rotating at constant angular velocity about a transverse axis are formulated. Under the assumption that a small perturbed motion occurs about an initially stressed equilibrium configuration, linearized equations of motion for the longitudinal and flexural deformations of a rotating bar carrying a tip mass are derived. Numerical computations for the natural frequencies of the lowest three modes of free vibration reveal that the values of the extensional frequencies increase monotonically, contrary to previously published results, as the angular velocity of rotation increases.  相似文献

Summary Two-dimensional equations for coupled extensional, flexural and thickness-shear motions of laminated plates of piezoelectric semiconductors are obtained systematically from the three-dimensional equations by retaining lower order terms in power series expansions in the plate thickness coordinate. The equations are used to analyze extensional waves in a composite plate of piezoelectric ceramics and semiconductors. Dispersion and dissipation due to semiconduction as well as wave amplification by a dc electric field are discussed.  相似文献

Consideration is given to the dynamic response of a Timoshenko beam under repeated pulse loading. Starting with the basic dynamical equations for a rotating radial cantilever Timoshenko beam clamped at the hub in a centrifugal force field, a system of equations are derived for coupled axial and lateral motions which includes the transverse shear and rotary inertia effects, as well. The hyperbolic wave equation governing the axial motion is coupled with the flexural wave equation governing the lateral motion of the beam through the velocity-dependent skew-symmetric Coriolis force terms. In the analytical formulation, Rayleigh-Ritz method with a set of sinusoidal displacement shape functions is used to determine stiffness, mass and gyroscopic matrices of the system. The tip of the rotating beam is subjected to a periodic pulse load due to local rubbing against the outer case introducing Coulomb friction in the system. Transient response of the beam with the tip deforming due to rub is discussed in terms of the frequency shift and non-linear dynamic response of the rotating beam. Numerical results are presented for this vibro-impact problem of hard rub with varying coefficients of friction and the contact-load time. The effects of beam tip rub forces transmitted through the system are considered to analyze the conditions for dynamic stability of a rotating blade with intermittent rub.  相似文献

This work presents exact dynamic solutions to piezoelectric (PZT) smart beams including peel stresses. The governing equations of partial differential forms are firstly derived for a PZT smart beam made of the identical adherends, and then general solutions of the governing equations are studied. The analytical solutions are applied to a cantilever beam with a partially bonded PZT patch to the fixed end. For the given boundary conditions, exact solutions of the steady state motions are obtained. Based on the exact solutions, frequency spectra, natural frequencies, normal mode shapes, harmonic responses of the shear and peel stresses are discussed for the PZT actuator. The details of the numerical results and sensing electric charges will be presented in Part II of this work. The exact dynamic solutions can be directly applied to a PZT bimorph bender. To compare with the classic shear lag model whose numerical demonstrations will be given in Part II, the related equations are also derived for the shear lag rod model and shear lag beam model.  相似文献

The equations of motion for the flexural–flexural–torsional–extensional dynamics of a beam are generalized to the field of axially moving continua by including the effects of translation speed and initial tension. The governing equations are simplified on the basis of physically justifiable assumptions and are shown to reduce to simpler models published in the literature. The resulting nonlinear equations of motion are used to investigate the flexural–torsional buckling of translating continua such as belts and tapes caused by parallel pulley misalignment. The effect of pulley misalignment on the steady motion (equilibrium) solutions and the bifurcation characteristics of the system are investigated numerically. The system undergoes multiple pitchfork bifurcations as misalignment is increased, with out-of-plane equilibria born at each bifurcation. The amount of misalignment to cause buckling and the post-buckled shapes are determined for various translation speeds and ratios of the flexural stiffnesses in the two bending planes. Increasing translation speed decreases the misalignment necessary to cause flexural–torsional buckling. In Part II of the present work, the stability and vibration characteristics of the planar and non-planar equilibria are analyzed.  相似文献

The equations of motion governing the vibration of a cantilever beam with partially treated self-sensing active constrained layer damping treatment(SACLD) are derived by application of the extended Hamilton principle. The assumed-modes method and closed loop velocity feedback control law are used to analyze and control the flexural vibration of the beam. The influence of the bonding layer and piezoelectric layer thickness, material properties, placements of the piezoelectric patch and feedback control parameters on the actuation ability of the vibration suppression are investigated. Some design considerations for pure passive, pure active control, and self-sensing active constrained layer damping are discussed. The governing equation of motion of gradient elastic flexural Kirchhoff plates, including the effect of in-plane constant forces on bending, is explicitly derived. This is accomplished by appropriately combining the equations of flexural motion in terms of moments, shear and in-plane forces, the moment–stress relations and the stress–strain equations of a simple strain gradient elastic theory with just one constant (the internal length squared), in addition to the two classical elastic moduli. The resulting partial differential equation in terms of the lateral deflection of the plate is of the sixth order instead of the fourth, which is the case for the classical elastic case. Three boundary value problems dealing with static, stability and dynamic analysis of a rectangular simply supported all-around gradient elastic flexural plate are solved analytically. Non-classical boundary conditions, in additional to the classical ones, have to be utilized. An assessment of the effect of the gradient coefficient on the static or dynamic response of the plate, its buckling load and natural frequencies is also made by comparing the gradient type of solutions against the classical ones.  相似文献

Column constitutive relationships and buckling equations are derived using a consistent hyperelastic neo-Hookean formulation. It is shown that the Mandel stress tensor provides the most concise representation for stress components. The analogous definitions for uniaxial beam plane stress and plane strain for large deformations are established by examining the virtual work equations. Anticlastic transverse curvature of the beam cross-section is incorporated when plane stress or thick beam dimensions are assumed. Column buckling equations which allow for shear and axial deformations are derived using the positive definiteness of the second order work. The buckling equations agree with the equation derived by Haringx and are extended to incorporate anticlastic transverse curvature which is important for low slenderness, high buckling modes and with increasing width to thickness ratio. The work in this paper does not support the existence of a shear buckling mode for straight prismatic columns made of an isotropic material.  相似文献

A non-linear bending theory for beams is constructed which accommodates shear and longitudinal deformations. Using the theory, an analytical solution for the cantilever beam subject to a compressive load (the elastica) and a series solution for the horizontal cantilever under weight loading are derived. The effects of including shear and longitudinal deformations are found to be negligible for configurations in which the two deformations tend to offset one another—such as at the onset of buckling under a compressive load—but are shown to be significant for certain configurations in which the two deformations are additive—as in some instances of weight loading.  相似文献

A new nonlinear planar beam formulation with stretch and shear deformations is developed in this work to study equilibria of a beam under arbitrary end forces and moments. The slope angle and stretch strain of the centroid line, and shear strain of cross-sections, are chosen as dependent variables in this formulation, and end forces and moments can be either prescribed or resultant forces and moments due to constraints. Static equations of equilibria are derived from the principle of virtual work, which consist of one second-order ordinary differential equation and two algebraic equations. These equations are discretized using the finite difference method, and equilibria of the beam can be accurately calculated. For practical, geometrically nonlinear beam problems, stretch and shear strains are usually small, and a good approximate solution of the equations can be derived from the solution of the corresponding Euler–Bernoulli beam problem. The bending deformation of the beam is the only important one in a slender beam, and stretch and shear strains can be derived from it, which give a theoretical validation of the accuracy and applicability of the nonlinear Euler–Bernoulli beam formulation. Relations between end forces and moments and relative displacements of two ends of the beam can be easily calculated. This formulation is powerful in the study of buckling of beams with various boundary conditions under compression, and can be used to calculate post-buckling equilibria of beams. Higher-order buckling modes of a long slender beam that have complex configurations are also studied using this formulation.  相似文献

The paper presents a one-dimensional model for anisotropic active slender structures that captures arbitrary cross-sectional deformations. The 1-D geometrically-nonlinear static problem is derived by an asymptotic reduction process from the equations of 3-D electroelasticity. In addition to the conventional (bending–extension–shear–twist) beam strain measures, it includes a Ritz approximation to account for arbitrary deformation shapes of the finite-size cross-sections. As a particular case, closed-form analytical expressions are derived for the linear static equilibrium of a composite thin strip with surface-mounted piezoelectric actuators. This solution is based on a boundary-layer approximation to the static equilibrium equations in regions where Saint-Venant’s principle for elastic bodies cannot be applied and includes camber bending deformations to account for the local bimoments induced by the distributed actuation in a finite-width strip.  相似文献

An appropriate strain energy density for an isotropic hyperelastic Hookean material is proposed for finite strain from which a constitutive relationship is derived and applied to problems involving beam theory approximations. The physical Lagrangian stress normal to the surfaces of a element in the deformed state is a function of the normal component of stretch while the shear is a function of the shear component of stretch. This paper attempts to make a contribution to the controversy about who is correct, Engesser or Haringx with regard to the buckling formula for a linear elastic straight prismatic column with Timoshenko beam-type shear deformations. The derived buckling formula for a straight prismatic column including shear and axial deformations agrees with Haringx’s formula. Elastica-type equations are also derived for a three-dimensional Timoshenko beam with warping excluded. When the formulation is applied to the problem of pure torsion of a cylinder no second-order axial shortening associated with the Wagner effect is predicted which differs from conventional beam theory. When warping is included, axial shortening is predicted but the formula differs from conventional beam theory.  相似文献

Summary A dynamical continuum theory is developed for laminated composite beams. Starting with an assumed displacement- and temperature field, the one-dimensional approximate theory is consistently constructed within the frame of the three-dimensional theory of linear, nonisothermal, anisotropic, coupled viscoelasticity. Each constituent of the beam may possess different constant thickness and mechanical properties. All dynamic interactions between the adjacent constituents are included. Further, the effects of transverse shear and normal strains and rotatory inertia as well as those of cross-sectional distortion are all taken into account. The resulting equations consist of the macroscopic beam equations of motion and heat conduction, the kinematical relations, the initial and boundary conditions and the constitutive equations, and they govern the extensional, flexural and torsional motions of laminated composite beams. The special cases of constituents which made of either isotropic thermoviscoelastic or anisotropic thermoelastic materials are discussed briefly.Supported by the Office of Naval Research. With 1 figure  相似文献

Two-dimensional equations for coupled extensional, flexural and thickness-shear motions of thin plates of piezoelectric semiconductors are obtained systematically from the three-dimensional equations by retaining lower order terms in power series expansions in the plate thickness coordinate. The two-dimensional equations are specialized to crystals of 6 mm symmetry and are simplified by thickness-shear approximation. Propagation of thickness-shear waves and their amplification by a dc electric field are analyzed.  相似文献

Most dynamic analyses of planar curved beams found in the literature are carried out based on a curved beam model which assumes that the neutral axis coincides with the centroidal axis of the curved beam. This assumption leads to governing equations of motion which are relatively simple with analysis results that have acceptable accuracy for shallow curved beams. However, when a curved beam is not shallow and/or its cross section is not doubly symmetric, the offset distance between the neutral and centroidal axes may be large enough to influence the in-plane dynamics of the curved beam even for small motion. In this paper, the validity of this underlying assumption for modeling a linear curved beam is examined. To this end, two sets of equations of motion governing the in-plane dynamics of a planar curved beam are derived, in a consistent manner for comparison, based on the linear strain-displacement relations and Hamilton’s principle. The first set of equations is derived from the displacement components measured with reference to the neutral axis of the curved beam while the second set is derived with respect to the centroidal axis of the cross section. The curved beam is considered extensional and the effects of rotary inertia and radial shear deformation are included. In addition to the curvature parameter that characterizes the wave motion for both curved beam models, an eccentricity parameter is introduced in the first model to account for the offset between the neutral and centroidal axes. The dynamic behavior predicted by each curved beam model is compared in terms of the dispersion relations, frequency spectra, cutoff frequencies, natural frequencies and modeshapes, and frequency responses. In order to ensure that the comparison is accurate, the wave propagation technique is applied to obtain exact wave solutions. It is shown that, when the curvature parameter is not small, the underlying assumption has a substantial impact on the accuracy of the linear dynamic analysis of a curved beam.  相似文献

Approximate dynamic boundary conditions of different orders are derived for the case of a thin piezoelectric coating layer bonded to an elastic material. The approximate boundary conditions are derived using series expansions of the elastic displacements and the electric potential in the thickness coordinate of the layer. All the expansion functions are then eliminated with the aid of the equations of motion and boundary/interface conditions of the layer. This results in boundary conditions on the elastic material that may be truncated to different orders in the thickness of the layer to obtain approximate boundary conditions. The approximate boundary conditions may be used as a replacement for the piezoelectric layer and thus simplify the analysis significantly. Numerical examples show that the approximate boundary conditions give good results for low frequencies and/or thin piezoelectric layers.  相似文献
