ABSTRACT

The general postbuckling behavior of orthotropic annular plates subjected to uniformly distributed forces is studied through the use of the Bubnov-Galerkin method. The transverse diplacement function is assumed to be in the form w = h if /, £ a,,p”+A-’-J cos m8 (=1.1=0 Wheref, = multipliers to be determined, a10= 1, a11(j # 0) = constants depending on the boundary conditions, p, θ = polar coordinates, and m = number of diametral nodal lines. Deflections, bending, and membrane stresses are presented in charts and listed in tables for 12 cases of boundary conditions, 4 loading cases, and various ratios of orthotropy.  相似文献

It is shown that, among anisotropic elastic materials, only certain orthotropic and hexagonal materials can have Young modulus E(n) independent of the direction n or the shear modulus G(n,m) independent of n and m. Thus the direction surface for E(n) can be a sphere for certain orthotropic and hexagonal materials. The structure of the elastic compliance for these materials is presented, and condition for identifying if the material is orthotropic or hexagonal is given. We also study the case in which n of E(n) and n, m of G(n,m) are restricted to a plane. When E(n) is a constant on a plane so are G(n,m) and Poisson's ratio ν(n,m). The converse, however, does not necessarily hold. A plane on which E(n) is a constant can exist for all anisotropic elastic materials. In particular, existence of such a plane is assured for trigonal, hexagonal and cubic materials. In fact there are four such planes for a cubic material. For these materials, not only E(n) is a constant, two other Young's moduli, the three shear moduli and the six Poisson's ratio on the plane are also constant.  相似文献

This investigation deals with the geometrically non-linear axisymmetric static analysis of elastic orthotropic thin annular plates subjected to uniformly distributed and ring loads. Non-linear differential equations in terms of the transverse displacement w and stress function ψ have been employed. Both w and ψ are expanded in finite power series and the orthogonal point collocation method has been used to obtain discretised algebraic equations from the governing differential equations. Results have been presented for annular plates with and without a rigid plug in the hole; simply supported, clamped and free outer edge conditions; three orthotropic parameters β; two annular ratios and two loading conditions. Results have also been presented illustrating the effect of an elastic rotational constraint at the edge and the effect of a prescribed inplane displacement of the edge.  相似文献

Summary This study deals with the geometrically nonlinear axisymmetric deflection characteristics of orthotropic thick shallow truncated conical springs. Marguerre type governing equations including the effect of shear deformation have been formulated in terms of normal displacement , shear rotation and stress function . Polynmial approximations are used for these field variables and the discretised equations are obtained using the orthogonal point collocation method. The influence of thickness-to-radius ratio, orthotropic parameter and edge conditions has been investigated. Significant influence of shear deformation on the response is found for moderately thick high-modulus composite clamped caps. Its effect is less pronounced for simply-supported caps.

Übersicht In dieser Arbeit werden die nichtlinearen Kennlinien von orthotropen, dicken, flachen Tellerfedern untersucht. Die dem Problem zugrunde liegenden Gleichungen vom Marguerre-Typ schließen den Effekt der Schubdeformation ein und werden mit Hilfe der Auslenkung , des Schubwinkels und einer Spannungsfunktion formuliert. Diese Größen werden in Potenzreihen entwickelt, und mit dem Kollokationsverfahren ergeben sich diskretisierte Gleichungen. Der Einfluß des Verhältnisses von Dicke zu Radius sowie der Einfluß von Orthotropieparametern und Randbedingungen wird untersucht.

Axisymmetric buckling analysis is presented for moderately thick laminated shallow, truncated conical caps under transverse load. Buckling under uniformly distributed loads and ring loads applied statically or as step function loads is considered. Marguerre-type, first-order shear deformation shallow shell theory is formulated in terms of transverse deflection w, the rotation ψ of the normal to the mid-surface and the stress function Φ. The governing equations are solved by the orthogonal point collocation method. Truncated conical caps with a circular opening, which is either free or plugged by a rigid central mass, have been analysed for clamped and simple supports with movable and immovable edge conditions. Typical numerical results are presented illustrating the effect of various parameters.  相似文献

Abstract

The dynamic behavior of an arc-shaped interfacial crack in an orthotropic functionally graded annular bi-material structure is investigated. In order for the analysis to be executable, the material properties are assumed to vary with the power function of the radial coordinates. By applying the separation variable method, the boundary value problem of the partial differential equation describing the fracture problem of this article can be transformed into a Cauchy kernel singular integral equation with the unknown jump of displacements across the crack surfaces. The obtained integral equation is solved numerically by Lobatto–Chebyshev collocation method to show the effects of the geometric and physical parameters upon the dynamic stress field near the crack tips.

Orthotropic circular annular plates have a lot of applications in engineering such as space structures and rotary machines. In this paper, frequency equations for the in-plane vibration of the orthotropic circular annular plate for general boundary conditions were derived. To obtain the frequency equation, first the equation of motion for the circular annular plate in the cylindrical coordinate is derived by using the stress-strain- displacement expressions. Helmholtz decomposition is used to uncouple the equations of motion. The wave equation is obtained by assumption a harmonic solution for the uncoupled equations. Using the separation of the variables leads to the general wave equation solution and the in-plane displacements in the r and θ directions. Finally, boundary conditions are exerted and the natural frequency is derived for general boundary conditions. The obtained results are validated by comparing with the previously reported and those from finite element analysis.  相似文献

Stress analysis for an infinite stripcracks were assumed in a horizontal position,weakened by periodic cracks is studied. The and the strip was applied by tension “p“ in y-direction. The boundary value problem can be reduced into a complex mixed one. It is found that the EEVM ( eigenfunction expansion variational method) is efficient to solve the problem. The stress intensity factor at the crack tip and the T-stress were evaluated. From the deformation response under tension the cracked strip can be equivalent to an orthotropic strip without cracks. The elastic properties in the equivalent orthotropic strip were also investigated. Finally, numerical examples and results were given.  相似文献

The problem of free and forced transverse vibration of an orthotropic, composite, and isotropic thin square plates with uniformly distributed damping and simply supported boundary conditions has been solved, using a modal expansion technique. A load of the type P0cosΩt applied at the center of plate has been considered and the phase angle between the forcing function and the vibration response at the center, as a function of the forcing frequency and the damping parameter determined. This theoretical relationship together with the experimentally measured phase angle between the applied mechanical forcing and the resulting vibration response at various forcing frequencies was used to determine an equivalent viscous damping parameter. This technique has been found to be particularly useful for the measurement and comparison of the relative damping in composite or orthotropic materials. Also, a theoretical relation for the energy loss due to viscous damping in vibrating plates has been developed and the theoretical energy loss at various frequencies has been compared with the experimentally measured energy loss at the same frequencies. Typical damping results are presented for aluminum, steel and aluminum/graphite-fiber composite materials.  相似文献

To characterize the materials parameters and deformation of a convex shell of axial symmetry, a hydrogel contact lens is mechanically deformed by two loading configurations: (a) compression between two parallel plates and (b) central load applied by a shaft with a spherical tip. A universal testing machine with nano-Newton and submicron resolutions is used to measure the applied force, F, as a function of vertical displacement of the plate/shaft, w 0, while a homemade laser aided topography system records the in-situ deformed shell profile and the contact radius or central dimple, a. A nonlinear shell theory and an iterative finite difference method are used to account for the large elastic deformation, the central buckling for the central load compression, and the interrelationship between the measureable quantities (F, w 0, a).  相似文献

This study deals with stress analysis of annular rotating discs made of functionally graded materials(FGMs).Elasticity modulus and density of the discs are assumed to vary radially according to a power law function,but the material is of constant Poisson’s ratio.A gradient parameter n is chosen between 0 and 1.0.When n = 0,the disc becomes a homogeneous isotropic material.Tangential and radial stress distributions and displacements on the disc are investigated for various gradient parameters n by means of the diverse elasticity modulus and density by using analytical and numerical solutions.Finally,a homogenous tangential stress distribution and the lowest radial stresses along the radius of a rotating disc are approximately obtained for the gradient parameter n = 1.0 compared with the homogeneous,isotropic case n = 0.This means that a disc made of FGMs has the capability of higher angular rotations compared with the homogeneous isotropic disc.  相似文献

A new experimental method of obtaining orthotropic stress-intensity factor,K I , is presented. The orthotropic photoelasticity and orthotropic linear-elastic fracture-mechanics laws are combined. The combined set of equations is used along with half-fringe photoelasticity to determineK I in a compact-tension specimen made of a transparent unidirectional fiberglass-epoxy material. We consider a two-dimensional model for a rotating Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in an anharmonic trap. The special shape of the trapping potential, negative in a central hole and positive in an annulus, favors an annular shape for the support of the wave function u. We study the minimizers of the energy in the Thomas-Fermi limit, where a small parameter ɛ tends to 0, for two different regimes of the rotational speed Ω. When Ω is independent of ɛ, we observe that the energy minimizers acquire vorticity beyond a critical Ω, but the vortices are strongly pinned in the central hole where the potential is negative. In this regime, minimizers exhibit no vortices in the annular bulk of the condensate. There is a critical rotational speed Ω=O(|lnɛ|) for which this strong pinning effect breaks down and vortices begin to appear in the annular bulk. We derive an asymptotic formula for the critical Ω, and determine precisely the location of nucleation of the vortices at the critical value. These results are related to very recent experimental and numerical observations on BEC.  相似文献

The Darcy Model with the Boussinesq approximation is used to study natural convection in a horizontal annular porous layer filled with a binary fluid, under the influence of a centrifugal force field. Neumann boundary conditions for temperature and concentration are applied on the inner and outer boundary of the enclosure. The governing parameters for the problem are the Rayleigh number, Ra, the Lewis number, Le, the buoyancy ratio, j{\varphi } , the radius ratio of the cavity, R, the normalized porosity, e{\varepsilon } , and parameter a defining double-diffusive convection (a = 0) or Soret induced convection (a = 1). For convection in a thin annular layer (R → 1), analytical solutions for the stream function, temperature and concentration fields are obtained using a concentric flow approximation and an integral form of the energy equation. The critical Rayleigh number for the onset of supercritical convection is predicted explicitly by the present model. Also, results are obtained from the analytical model for finite amplitude convection for which the flow and heat and mass transfer are presented in terms of the governing parameters of the problem. Numerical solutions of the full governing equations are obtained for a wide range of the governing parameters. A good agreement is observed between the analytical model and the numerical simulations.  相似文献

Summary A boundary value problem for two semi-infinite anisotropic spaces with mixed boundary conditions at the interface is considered. Assuming that the displacements are independent of the coordinate x 3, stresses and derivatives of displacement jumps are expressed via a sectionally holomorphic vector function. By means of these relations the problem for an interface crack with an artificial contact zone in an orthotropic bimaterial is reduced to a combined Dirichlet-Riemann problem which is solved analytically. As a particular case of this solution, the contact zone model (in Comninou's sense) is derived. A simple transcendental equation and an asymptotic formula for the determination of the real contact zone length are obtained. The classical interface crack model with oscillating singularities at the crack tips is derived from the obtained solution as well. Analytical relations between fracture mechanical parameters of different models are found, and recommendations concerning their implementation are given. The dependencies of the contact zone lengths on material properties and external load coefficients are illustrated in graphical form. The practical applicability of the obtained results is demonstrated by means of a FEM analysis of a finite-sized orthotropic bimaterial with an interface crack. Summary This paper deals with the geometrically nonlinear axisymmetric static and transient response of moderately thick cylindrically orthotropic circular plates subjected to uniformly distributed and ring loads. Immovable clamped and simply supported annular plates with and without a rigid plug subjected to static and step function loads have been considered. Shear deformation and rotary inertia have been included. Orthogonal point collocation method and Newmark- scheme have been employed to solve the differential equations expressed in terms of transverse displacement , shear rotation and stress function . The effect of transverse shear has been investigated for isotropic and orthotropic plates. A simple approximate method has also been used to predict the maximum dynamic response to step loads from the results for static loads.

Eingespannte und gelenkig gelagerte Platten mit oder ohne starrem Pfropfen unter statischer oder dynamischer Belastung werden behandelt, wobei Schubdeformation und Drehträgheit berücksichtigt werden. Eine Kollokationsmethode und das Newmarksche -Schema werden angewendet, um die Differentialgleichungen für die Durchbiegung , die Verdrehung und die Spannungsfunktion zu lösen.

The resonant-based identification of the in-plane elastic properties of orthotropic materials implies the estimation of four principal elastic parameters: E 1 , E 2 , G 12 , and ν 12 . The two elastic moduli and the shear modulus can easily be derived from the resonant frequencies of the flexural and torsional vibration modes, respectively. The identification of the Poisson’s ratio, however, is much more challenging, since most frequencies are not sufficiently sensitive to it. The present work addresses this problem by determining the test specimen specifications that create the optimal conditions for the identification of the Poisson’s ratio. Two methods are suggested for the determination of the Poisson’s ratio of orthotropic materials: the first employs the resonant frequencies of a plate-shaped specimen, while the second uses the resonant frequencies of a set of beam-shaped specimens. Both methods are experimentally validated using a stainless steel sheet.  相似文献
