It is shown that a lateral pressure applied to a circular single-mode optical waveguide changes the phase difference between two orthogonally polarized modes and thereby modulates the polarization state of light (elastooptic effect). The efficiency of polarization modulation is characterized by a strain-to-phase difference conversion factor as applied to polarization modes of the fiber. An expression relating the phase difference between the modes and the displacement of squeezing plates is obtained and checked in real experiments and numerically. The efficiency of conversion of lateral pressure to phase difference between the polarization modes is shown to be fairly high, on the order of 104 rad/(μm m).  相似文献

基于倾斜光纤光栅耦合模理论,采用数值分析法研究了前后向导模耦合时倾斜角度和调制深度对倾斜光纤光栅反射谱的影响,以及导模和辐射模耦合时针对不同的入射光偏振态在倾斜角度、调制深度、光栅长度等不同时倾斜光纤光栅透射谱(或反射谱)的特性.研究结果表明,在前后向导模耦合时,不同偏振态入射光的光谱几乎相同;而对于辐射模耦合,由于反射谱的包络受消光系数的调制,而不同偏振态入射光的消光系数不同,并且倾斜角度越大不同偏振态的入射光的消光系数差别越大,故在研究辐射模耦合时需要将偏振态予以考虑.  相似文献

We demonstrate a scalable architecture for coherent combining of pulsed fiber lasers.A new method for generating synchronous pulsed fiber lasers by direct phase modulation is proposed and investigated.It is shown that phase modulated mutually coupled laser array can be a steady synchronous pulsed fiber laser source.The synchronous pulsed fiber lasers are coherently combined with an invariable phase difference of π in adjacent lasers.Neither active phase control nor polarization control is taken in our experiment.  相似文献

偏振控制在光通信中是至关重要的技术, 关系着通信系统的稳定性和误码率. 本文提出一种基于双向Sagnac环工作方式的全光纤高速偏振控制方案, 通过调节环中一个光纤电光相位调制器的相位差而精确控制光场偏振方向, 并且实现了单个端口输出各种偏振态, 无需后续耦合操作. 相位控制精度为10-3 rad, 最大消光比可达30 dB, 工作速率可达2 GHz. 由于本方案的精度、调制速度和稳定性都很高, 并采用了器件简单、成本低廉的全光纤光路, 易于集成, 在量子保密通信等光通信领域中有很好的应用前景. 关键词: 光纤偏振控制器 Sagnac环 量子通信  相似文献

分析了环形腔掺铒光纤激光器的输出特性,给出了稳态下的激光器输出功率、阈值泵浦功率和斜率效率的解析表达式,为激光器结构的优化提供了依据。搭建了全保偏环形腔掺铒光纤激光器,利用未泵浦铒纤中由驻波干涉和饱和吸收诱发的自写入光纤光栅的窄带滤波特性及反射波长的自适应特性,有效地解决了激光器的跳模问题。通过测量得到激光器系统的泵浦阈值为15.3mW,斜率效率为2.8%,输出偏振度为32dB。利用非平衡光纤干涉仪系统和相位产生载波(PGC)调制解调技术测得激光器的相位噪声为3×10-5rad/Hz~1/2(1kHz)。  相似文献

基于偏振调制和光的干涉原理,设计了同时具有正系数和负系数特性的微波光子滤波器,并通过搭建实验模型证实了方案的可行性。利用偏振调制及光的偏振特性实现载波和一阶边带的正交偏振,并通过改变偏振调制器的偏置电压分别对载波和一阶边带引入相移。当载波和一阶边带的相位差为0或90时,利用保偏光纤快慢轴上两正交偏振光在同一偏振态上的干涉效应,分别对应实现具有负系数或正系数特性的微波光子滤波器。最后,测量并验证了0~15 GHz频率范围内滤波器的频率响应。  相似文献

当用相同偏振方向的物光和参考光在菌紫质薄膜上记录光栅时,再现光的偏振方向会影响其衍射效率.采用琼斯矩阵方法对此进行了理论分析,结果显示,再现光的偏振方向对衍射光的光强产生余弦调制;当再现光的偏振方向平行或垂直于记录光的偏振方向时,衍射光仍为线偏振光,其他情况下衍射光均变成椭圆偏振光.再现光偏振方向对衍射效率峰值的调制为正向余弦调制,对衍射效率稳定值的调制为反向余弦调制(与前者在相位上相差π).加入辅助紫光可抑制光栅的饱和,从而使得再现光偏振对衍射效率稳定值的调制由反向余弦调制变为正向余弦调制,并且提高了衍 关键词: 菌紫质 光致各向异性 衍射效率 琼斯矩阵  相似文献

针对低频腔内直接相位调制时全光纤激光器的脉冲现象,提出了合理的理论解释。基于光纤激光器自脉冲和固体激光器空间耦合的理论,对脉冲光产生的机理进行了分析,解释脉冲光产生的物理机制。假定光纤激光器中存在两个正交的偏振态,且两个偏振态以固体激光器空间耦合的模型耦合; 在相位调制作用下,两个耦合的偏振态之间相位差变化,导致两个偏振态的耦合特性发生变化,从而产生脉冲光输出。建立相应的数学模型,进行定性的理论分析。数值模拟表明,理论分析与实验结果符合得很好。  相似文献

A frequency-degenerate steady-state two-wave interaction on a dynamic transmitting phase grating formed in a cubic crystal of the $\bar 43m$ symmetry group with a nonlocal photorefractive response is considered in the paraxial approximation. The conservation laws for the nonlinear system of equations of coupled waves, derived for an arbitrary orientation of interaction relative to the crystallographic axes and the polarization of incident light waves, indicate that the contribution to energy exchange between the interacting waves may come from fluxes in different directions. The possibility of nonunidirectional energy pumping from one wave to the other upon a change in their polarization state due to the interaction is demonstrated. For the transverse configuration of the interaction and linear polarization of incident waves, explicit analytic expressions for the scalar amplitudes of the orthogonal components of the light field are derived in the linear approximation in the coefficient of modulation of the interference pattern of light. The possibility of rotation of the polarization planes of light waves without a change in their intensity is demonstrated. For three particular configurations, the dependence of the efficiency of interaction of linearly polarized waves on the reduced length, orientation of the polarization vectors of the incident light waves, and the ratio of their intensities are analyzed.  相似文献

The extinction coefficient of a birefringent optical fiber (the ratio between the radiation power output of the polarization mode and the radiation power transferred from this mode to another one) characterizes the capability of a birefringent fiber to retain the polarization state of the radiation. In relatively short birefringent fibers (1–100 m), the extinction coefficient may reach 104–106. Such high values of the extinction coefficient are difficult to measure by standard techniques (excitation of one polarization mode by an incoherent source with subsequent recording of the light intensity at the output of the analyzer). An interference method of measuring the extinction coefficient of birefringent fibers is suggested. It is based on using a coherent source and measuring interference oscillations caused by an additional phase modulation at the input of the fiber. This method does not require precise polarization matching between the laser source and fiber and considerably loosens requirements for the polarizer-analyzer extinction and resolution of the photodetector. As a result, using simple standard components (semiconductor laser, film polarizer, and photodetector), one can measure extinction coefficient as high as 106. The suggested interference method of measuring the extinction coefficient of birefringent fibers receives a theoretical analysis, and experimental data obtained for 2- to 1000-m-long fibers are presented.  相似文献

分布式光纤传感器能够测量沿光纤长度上连续分布的外界量。用保偏光纤作为传感光纤的分布式光纤传感器,被测外界量引起保偏光纤中传播的两正交偏振模的相互耦合。用迈克尔逊干涉仪两臂光程差来补偿两个偏振模的光程差的方法探测传感信号。为了设计白光干涉偏振模耦合分布式传感器,根据统计光学原理分析了传感器的互相干特性。在此基础上分析了传感器的空间分辨力、光纤耦合点分辨力、最大传感光纤长度。波长1310nm、谱宽36nm的超辐射发光二极管(SLD)作光源.用色散参量为600ps/km,拍长3mm的保偏光纤的分布传感器空间分辨力和光纤耦合点分辨力分别为6cm和3mm。  相似文献

高速率、大容量的密集波分复用系统是光纤通信系统的最终发展方向 ,单信道速率达到 4 0Gbit/s时 ,光纤的非线性效应、偏振模色散现象对系统的影响更加突出。在综合考虑群速度色散、自相位调制、交叉相位调制、四波混合、偏振模色散等因素的基础上 ,推导了密集波分复用系统中任意信道的耦合非线性薛定谔方程组。利用扩展的分步傅里叶方法对该方程进行了数值计算 ,通过对 8× 4 0Gbit/s密集波分复用系统的仿真 ,分别研究了非线性效应和偏振模色散对密集波分复用系统的影响。发现由于交叉相位调制和四波混合作用 ,多波长的密集波分复用系统比单波系统受非线性效应影响严重 ;系统受偏振模色散与非线性效应的影响程度与输入信号功率有关 ,在入射光单信道平均功率较低 0 .1mW时 ,偏振模色散是影响系统性能的主要因素 ;当入射光单信道平均功率较高1mW时 ,系统受非线性效应影响严重。而偏振模色散在使信号脉冲展宽的同时 ,类似于非零色散位移光纤中的微小色散 ,对非线性效应又有一定的抑制作用。  相似文献

The quadrature demodulation algorithm used for all-fiber self-mixing sensors is applied to displacement measurements. A fiber electro-optic modulator is used to introduce phase modulation, which can improve the accuracy of measurements. Although phase modulation is easily affected by the polarization state of light, this method can process signals by sampling the interference signals at specific time points. Such signals are insensitive to polarization, and thus, the calculation process and experimental devices are simplified. The feasibility of the algorithm is validated via a series of experiments under nonpolarization-maintaining conditions.  相似文献

Polarization-dependent gain (PDG) and state of polarization (SOP) of the output signal light in Yb3+-doped fiber amplifiers are studied by numerically stimulation, which showed that PDG of output signal light is not only changed with the input pump power and signal power, input polarization of pump and signal light, but also changed with the doping concentration, the cross-section anisotropy, the fiber length, the phase difference of the fiber, and so on. Moreover, SOP of the output signal light is studied. It is found that the polarization of output signal light is relative not only to the phase difference of the fiber, polarization of pump and signal light as the non-doped fiber, but also to PDG of output signal light, the cross-section anisotropy, the doping concentration, and so on, which is different to the non-doped fiber.  相似文献

The optical characteristics of transparent lead magnesium niobate titanate (PMNT) electro-optic ceramic, including the electro-optic phase modulation, electric hysteresis property and thermo-optic coefficient, are investigated in detail. Based on this novel ceramic, a polarization independent electro-optic switch by using fiber Sagnac interferometer (FSI) structure is realized. An initial π-shift is introduced into the Sagnac loop to eliminate the effect of the polarization orientation of the incident light on the switch performance. Then an electrically controllable PMNT phase retarder is used to switch the optical signal between the reflection and transmission ports. Some theoretical analyses are given and the switch performances are also discussed, including the thermal characteristic and different switching frequency response.  相似文献

以掺镱光纤激光器为抽运源、掺铒光纤激光器后接掺铒光纤放大器为信号源,利用周期极化掺镁铌酸锂晶体,研究了全光纤化差频产生中红外激光器的转换效率特性。结果表明,抽运光和信号光偏振态影响差频产生过程的转换效率,利用偏振控制器,可将抽运光和信号光偏振方向调节到与晶体光轴方向平行,以获得高的转换效率。抽运光和信号光的光束质量既影响差频产生过程的转换效率,又决定晶体纵向位置的容限,当聚焦系统由自聚焦透镜和焦距100mm平凸透镜组成时,相对转换效率达0.717mW-2,晶体纵向位置容限为44mm。此外,差频光在3126.36~3529.6nm范围内调谐时,转换效率基本保持不变。  相似文献

由电光调制器(EOM)中双折射效应及线偏光不完全沿EOM调制方向诱发的残余幅度调制(RAM)使频率调制(FM)光谱技术在微量气体检测中的应用受到极大的限制。基于光场与晶体相互作用及光学干涉原理推导出存在RAM时FM光谱的线型表达式,确定出输入线偏光角度、EOM中双折射效应、FM系数等是影响线型的主要因素,且当入射EOM光的偏振角度偏离调制方向越大,双折射效应引起的特征偏振方向相位差越大,线型扭曲越严重;同时在FM色散光谱中存在一个受两者影响的直流偏置;最后给出通过伺服控制这两过程可以达到抑制RAM的目的。这些现象及线型的分析将为基于光纤器件的FM光谱提供必要的理论支持。  相似文献

针对弱非线性的Longuet-Higgins模型在模拟强非线性畸形波海面时所存在的问题,采用修正的相位调制法模拟一维畸形波时间、空间波面,该方法能够实现畸形波的定时定点生成,并且其波形既能保持目标谱的频谱结构,又能较大程度地满足波浪序列的统计特性.同时,基于改进的双尺度(TSM)法及时域有限差分法建立畸形波的电磁散射模型,经过相对平均偏差和均方根偏差误差分析后,基于TSM法研究分析了畸形波及其背景海面波的归一化雷达散射截面(NRCS)的计算结果.实验表明,合成孔径雷达成像中畸形波的NRCS比背景波要小,即畸形波的合成孔径雷达图像成像比背景波要灰暗,因此可以将NRCS作为畸形波的特征识别标识.通过分析研究不同极化方式、入射角、入射频率条件下畸形波与背景波面的电磁散射特性实验数据得出:当二者的NRCS差值大于-11.8 dB及以上时,即认为产生畸形波,这为实际的工程应用提供了参照标准.  相似文献

Polarization-maintaining fiber amplifier using ytterbium-doped single-mode fiber (SMF) is proposed. A 45° Faraday rotator mirror (FRM) and a polarization independent fiber loop circulator (FLC) with polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) pigtails are used to realize double-pass amplification and birefringence self-compensation. Arbitrary state of polarization (SOP) such as the linear polarization and elliptical polarization can be maintained. Polarization-maintaining amplification of phase modulated pulse with this amplifier is experimentally demonstrated while introducing little intensity modulation itself.  相似文献
