The linear and nonlinear operation of a multiwave grating free-electron laser is described. The radiation is generated by the passage of an annular electron beam through a coaxial waveguide, the central conductor being in the form of a corrugated cylinder. The model includes the effects of self-field forces, beam emittance and gyromotion of electrons in a guide magnetic field. The efficiency is determined by numerical simulation and compared with analytical estimates. A compact source utilizing, for example, a high brightness beam from a carbon fibre electron gun, that is tunable in the wavelength band 35-55 μm with output in the kilowatt range, is shown to be feasible  相似文献

提出一种输出环状光束的新型激光谐振腔,即在稳定激光谐振腔中采用外环耦合方式得到环状光束的输出。利用For-Li数值迭代算法求解此类激光谐振腔的积分方程,通过计算机编程计算了平面一凹球面稳定谐振腔的输出端平面镜在不同半径的情况下,谐振腔镜面上和衍射耦合输出场基模的振幅和相位分布。计算结果预示了当输出端平面镜半径小于通常的稳定腔的基模半径时,衍射耦合输出场有稳定的环状光束输出。实验中TEA CO2激光器采用印刷电路板预电离结构,增益长度90cm,腔长5m,球面全反射镜曲率半径20m,输出端平面镜半径4.5mm,得到了内环半径为4.5mm、外环半径为5.5mm的基模环形光斑输出。从而在理论上和实验上证实了该方案产生环状光束的可行性。  相似文献

本文从菲涅耳衍射积分公式出发研究了激光器非稳腔输出环状光束在空间的传输规律.由轴上光强的极值点位置给出了划分非稳腔传输空间的近场、中场和远场区域公式.理论计算结果表明,非稳腔输出端环状光束在中场区域激光能量逐渐向轴心方向转移,而在远场变为爱里型圆盘状光束的过程.在非稳腔脉冲TEA CO_2激光器上测得的实验结果与理论计算结果很好地符合.  相似文献

When high-power annular laser beams produced by the unstable resonator pass through the volume Bragg grating (VBG), absorption of light in the VBG will induce a temperature increment, resulting in changes in surface distortion. Considering that the surface distortion of the grating induces index and period differences, the scalar wave equations for the annular laser beams propagating in the VBG have been solved numerically and iteratively using finite-difference and sparse matrix methods. The variation in intensity distributions, the total power reflection coefficient, and the power in the bucket (PIB) for the annular laser beams passing through the reflection VBG with deformation have been analyzed quantitatively. It can be shown that the surface distortion of the VBG and the beam orders of the annular beams affect evidently the intensity distributions, the power reflection coefficient, and the PIB of the output beam. The peak intensity decreases as the deformation of the VBG increases. The total power reflection efficiency decreases significantly with the increase in deformations of the VBG. The PIB of the output beam decreases as the obscuration ratio β and the deformation of the VBG increase. For the given obscuration ratio β, the influence of deformation of reflection VBG on the PIB of the annular beams is more sensitive with increase in distortion of the VBG and decrease in beam order.  相似文献

The planar orotron is introduced and shown to be a viable source of moderate power and of millimeter and submillimeter wavelength radiation. The resonator is a slow-wave structure consisting of a rectangular metal grating which is opposed by a planar conducting boundary. The device operates in the surface harmonic mode: electrons interact with axially traveling waves which evanesce above the grating surface, and the amplified radiation leaves the resonator in parallel with the beam axis. Operation in both the forward and backward mode is possible. The resonator cavity is designed to enhance longitudinal reflections, and thereby enhance the output power and efficiency. The output frequency and tuning range are determined by the grating parameters. Experiments performed in the backward mode have produced radiation from 30 to 110 GHz at power levels ranging from 100 W to 2 kW. The efficiencies vary from 1 to 7%. The measured frequencies are closely predicted by a theory which is also presented  相似文献

A small signal theory is presented of the harmonic gyrotron oscillator with a slotted resonator. The magnetron-type wall structure has the effect of creating a strong harmonic field near the electron orbits and, as a result, greatly reducing the beam voltage and start-oscillation power required for harmonic operations. Characteristics of operation and methods of optimization are studied and numerically illustrated. It is shown that at a given harmonic the startoscillation beam power is lower at a lower beam voltage.  相似文献

A two and one half dimensional particle-in-cell code MAGIC has been used to investigate the nonlinear beam-wave interaction in a coaxial relativistic backward wave oscillator(RBWO) and optimize the dependence of the output power on electron beam nature parameter, slow wave structure geometry and magnetic guide field. The optimum conditions for the coaxial RBWO were obtained. The simulation results show: the coaxial RBWO can generate 3.2GW peak output power at 10.2GHz in the TM02 made when an annular electron beam of 20KA is accelerated across a diode potential of 600KV and guided through a section of uniform coaxial corrugated waveguide by an axial magnetic field of 25KG, the peak efficiency is about 27% . A novel coaxial master oscillator–power amplifier was presented in this paper.  相似文献

Results of experiments are presented on the comparison of the efficiency of radiation generation at the sum frequency (λ=0.271 μm) of copper vapor laser (CVL) in a nonlinear DKDP crystal using either convergent or parallel laser beam. An intensity of UV radiation of 0.34 W and a conversion efficiency of 6% obtained under conditions of strong focusing occur to be substantially lower as compared to those obtained using a parallel laser beam of the same power (0.73 W and 12%, respectively). Experimental data on the structure of a CVL beam generated with an unstable resonator are presented, and physical reasons for the limitation of the efficiency of nonlinear frequency conversion are analyzed.  相似文献

The field pattern of the resonator used in a quasi-optical gyrotron operating in the millimetre wave range is measured. Two resonators are studied: one composed of a spherical mirror and an ellipsoidal grating and the other symmetric using two mirrors with annular slots. The measurements indicate that the electric field distribution is gaussian, in spite of the complex geometry of the resonator, and thus provide an experimental basis for the assumption often used to compute the efficiency of quasi-optical gyrotrons.  相似文献

A novel Smith-Purcell(S-P) free electron laser composed of an electron gun,a semi-elliptical resonator,a metallic reflecting grating and a collector,is presented for the first time.This paper studies the characteristics of this device by theoretical analysis and particle-in-cell simulation method.Results indicate that tunable coherent S-P radiation with a high output peak power at millimeter wavelengths can be generated by adjusting the length of the grating period,or adjusting the voltage of the electron beam.The present scheme has the following advantages:the semi-elliptical resonator can reflect all radiation with the emission angle θ and random azimuthal angles,back onto the electron beam with same-phase and causes the electrons to be modulated,so the output power and efficiency are improved.  相似文献

 理论上分析了PPMgLN光参量振荡波长调谐特性,计算了泵浦阈值和转换效率。准相位匹配情况下,周期调谐是获得中红外波长调谐有效方法之一。采用高斯光束泵浦,当泵浦功率密度超过阈值泵浦功率密度约6.5倍时,可以获得最高转换效率,约71%。采用1 064 nm激光泵浦多周期PPMgLN晶体,实验上获得了波长调谐范围2.7~4.8 mm,当泵浦功率为8 W时,在波长3.7 mm处激光输出功率超过1.6 W,斜效率超过20%,相应的转换效率约为69%,与理论分析基本一致。  相似文献

The stability of high power gyro-TWT amplifiers operating in the low-loss TE01 mode of cylindrical waveguide has been studied, Linear theory has been used to determine the threshold start-oscillation beam current for absolute instability in the operating mode and the critical section lengths for the dominant gyro-BWO interactions occurring at various cyclotron harmonics in other waveguide modes. The performance of the amplifier was evaluated with a nonlinear, self-consistent slow-timescale simulation code. Utilizing interaction sections whose lengths are less than the threshold start-oscillation length and are separated by attenuating severs for isolation, two stable three-section devices have been designed which are predicted to yield: (1) a peak output power of 230 kW at 35 GHz with an efficiency of 23%, a saturated gain of 46 dB and a constant-drive bandwidth of 6% for a 100 kV, 10 A electron beam with an α=νz =1.0 and an axial velocity spread Δνzz=5% and (2) 105 kW at 94 GHz with 21% efficiency, 45 dB saturated gain and 5% constant-drive bandwidth for a similar 5 A electron beam. In addition, the design of the 0 dB input/output couplers and the MIG electron gun are given. Due to the low loss of the TE01 mode, both of these amplifiers can be operated continuously  相似文献

A new design of the U-type resonator is described. In this way, a laser beam with symmetrical intensity profile (regarding to a symmetry plane) can be extracted from an active medium that exhibits gain asymmetry along one of the transverse directions. The whole area of the active medium cross-section can be used, and consequently the laser efficiency will be increased. This resonator structure was applied for efficiency power extraction (as a low order TEM modes laser beam) from a DC excited transverse flow CO2 laser with cylindrical geometry. Although the cross-section area of the discharge was entirely used (including the cathode fall region), a symmetrical intensity profile of the laser beam (regarding to the two orthogonal symmetry planes) was obtained in the near field as well as in the far field; the gain asymmetry along the flow direction was compensated by the gas circulation fluidodynamical circuit with two counterflowing discharge channels. A double-U optical resonator was introduced in order to provide a laser beam with axial symmetry.For the practical construction of these two types of optical resonators we have developed two new types of 90° deflection elements: the first one, which does not reverse the image (and which has the properties of the pentaprism), and the second one, which rotates the image with 90° angle. Both elements exhibit good focusability if they are equipped with two concave mirrors.  相似文献

A novel axially modulated, annular electron beam cusp-injected, slowly varied section opened cavity, hybrid-magnicon amplifier had been proposed I once. The hybrid-magnicon has wavelength up to millimeter wave bend. The while its non-self-consistent non-space-charge nonlinear numerical calculation method was discussed. But due to bunch effect is changing uniform distribution state of the annular electron beam in the driver cavity, and then dynamic force balances of the beam is changing. Therefore, besides the interaction force between electron beam and the rotating TMn10 mode electromagnetic field also must consider the electromagnetic force of current density and the action force between the space-charges and the action force of the charge density grade, et al. effect. A novel means of producing coherent radiation by passing an electron through a dual-grating resonator is presented, The observed radiation is in accordance with the Smith-Purcell dispersion relation for a single grating. Feedback is provided by a second grating. Experiments carried out at beam energies from 30-55 keV produced radiation at wavelengths from 6 to 0.75 mm. Power measurement were used to clarify the grating beam interaction, Indications are that operation could be easily extended to shorter wavelengths to provide an inexpensive and compact radiation source in the far-infrared  相似文献

Basic properties are given of the prism anamorphic expander of a Gaussian beam composed of a couple of prisms in tandem. Its shorter overall length for a given expansion, relative ease of optical adjustment, a sharp selection of polarization component, and rather small inclusive dispersion make it an excellent beam expander in a specific laser cavity. The design principle is presented of the prism system with a grating for an anastigmatic optical resonator for a dye laser of narrow linewidth and of short pulse duration.  相似文献

A self-consistent, one-dimensional model of the cyclotron autoresonance maser (CARM) amplifier is developed, and numerical simulations based on this model are described. Detailed study results of the CARM gain and efficiency for a wide range of initial energy and velocity spreads are presented. The interaction efficiency is found to be substantially increased when the axial magnetic field is tapered. Efficiencies of greater than 41% are obtained for a 140-GHz CARM amplifier with a tapered axial magnetic field and a 700-kV 4.5-A electron beam with parallel velocity spreads of less than 1%. A discussion of the nonlinear bandwidth and interaction sensitivity to axial-field inhomogeneities is presented  相似文献

A ring resonator design for optically pumped submillimeter wave (SMMW) lasers using the same set of four mirrors (including one focussing mirror) for pump beam and SMMW beam guiding is introduced.The optimum design is discussed on the example of a 2.523 THz methanol laser. It turns out that the focal length of the focussing mirror has to be adapted to the resonator perimeter. Eleven well suited focal length - resonator perimeter ratios, defining eleven standard resonator configurations, can be distinguished.The setup of an experimental laser with the optimized resonator and the experimental setup to measure laser performance are described, and results concerning laser output power, beam quality and efficiency are discussed.This paper is the extended version of the paper presented on the 23rd International Conference in Colchester [1] and continues a former article presented in this journal [2].  相似文献

Free nonlinear transverse vibration is investigated for an axially moving beam modeled by an integro-partial-differential equation. Based on the equation, a conserved quantity is defined and confirmed for axially moving beams with pinned or clamped ends. A new type of laser resonator that is designed to extract good phase coherence and circular beams from an annular gain region is developed. We also calculated the parameters theoretically by applying the resonator to a CO2 laser.
