Meso-scale self-assembly of doped semiconductor nanocrystals leading to the formation of monocrystalline nanorods showing enhanced photo- and electro-luminescence properties are reported. Polycrystalline ZnS: Cu+-Al3+ nanoparticles of zinc-blended (cubic) structure with an average size of ∼4 nm were aggregated in aqueous solution and grown into nanorods of length ∼400 nm and aspect ratio ∼12. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images indicate crystal growth mechanisms involving particle-to-particle oriented-attachment assisted by sulphur-sulphur catenation leading to covalent-linkage. The nanorods exhibit self-assembly dependant luminescence properties such as quenching of the lattice defect-related emissions accompanied by enhancement of dopant-related emission, efficient low-voltage electroluminescence (EL) and super-linear voltage-brightness EL characteristics. This study demonstrates the technological importance of aggregation based self-assembly in doped semiconductor nanosystems.  相似文献

Terbium (1 mol%) doped ZnO-SiO2 binary system was prepared by a sol-gel process. Nanoscopic effects of ZnO on the photoluminescence (PL) and the cathodoluminescence (CL) properties were studied. Defects emission from ZnO nanoparticles was measured at 560 nm and the line emission from Tb3+ ions in SiO2:Tb3+ and ZnO-SiO2:Tb3+ with a major peak at 542 nm was measured. The PL excitation wavelength for 542 nm Tb3+ emission was measured at ∼320 nm in both SiO2:Tb3+ and ZnO-SiO2:Tb3+. The CL data showed quenched luminescence of the ZnO nanoparticles at 560 nm from a composite of ZnO-SiO2:Tb3+ and a subsequent increase in 542 nm emission from the Tb3+ ions. This suggests that energy was transferred from the ZnO nanoparticles to enhance the green emission of the Tb3+ ions. The PL and CL properties of ZnO-SiO2:Tb3+ binary system and possible mechanism for energy transfer from the ZnO nanoparticles to Tb3+ ions are discussed.  相似文献

Rare earth doped NaLa(WO4)2 nanoparticles have been prepared by a simply hydrothermal synthesis procedure. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern shows that the Eu3+-doped NaLa(WO4)2 nanoparticles with an average size of 10-30 nm can be obtained via hydrothermal treatment for different time at 180 °C. The luminescence intensity of Eu3+-doped NaLa(WO4)2 nanoparticles depended on the size of the nanoparticles. The bright upconversion luminescence of the 2 mol% Er3+ and 20 mol% Yb3+ codoped NaLa(WO4)2 nanoparticles under 980 nm excitation could also be observed. The Yb3+-Er3+ codoped NaLa(WO4)2 nanoparticles prepared by the hydrothermal treatment at 180 °C and then heated at 600 °C shows a 20 times stronger upconversion luminescence than those prepared by hydrothermal treatment at 180 °C or by hydrothermal treatment at 180 °C and then heated at 400 °C.  相似文献

Luminescence properties of Eu3+ doped TeO2-PbO-GeO2 glasses containing gold nanoparticles (NPs) were investigated. The emission spectra of the samples exhibited enhancement of Eu3+ luminescence due to the presence of gold NPs. The emission at 614 nm, due to the Eu3+ hypersensitive transition 5D0-7F2, is much influenced by the gold NPs and increases by ≈100% for samples heat-treated at 350 °C during 41 h.  相似文献

Green emission at around 500 nm is observed in Gd2O3:Ce3+ nanoparticles and the intensity is highly dependent on the concentration of Ce3+ in the nanoparticles. The luminescence of this emission displays both picosecond (ps) and millisecond (ms) lifetimes. The ms lifetime is over four orders of magnitude longer than typical luminescence lifetimes (10-40 ns) of Ce3+ in traditional Ce3+ doped phosphors and therefore likely originates from defect states. The picosecond lifetime is shorter than the typical Ce3+ value and is also likely due to defect or surface states. When the samples are annealed at 700 °C, this emission disappears possibly due to changes in the defect moieties or concentration. In addition, a blue emission at around 430 nm is observed in freshly prepared Gd2O3 undoped nanoparticles, which is attributed to the stabilizer, polyethylene glycol biscarboxymethyl ether. On aging, the undoped particles show similar emission to the doped particles with similar luminescence lifetimes. When Eu3+ ions are co-doped in Gd2O3:Ce nanoparticles, both the green emission and the emission at 612 nm from Eu3+ are observed.  相似文献

ZnS:Cu+ and ZnS:Cu2+ nanocrystallites have been obtained by chemical precipitation from homogeneous solutions of zinc, copper salt compounds, with S2− as precipitating anion formed by decomposition of thioacetamide. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis shows that average diameter of particles is about 2.0-2.5 nm. The nanoparticles can be doped with copper during synthesis without altering XRD pattern. However, the emission spectrum of ZnS nanocrystallites doped with Cu+ and Cu2+ consists of two emission peaks. One is at 450 nm and the other is at 530 nm. The absorptive spectrum of the doped sample is different from that of un-doped ZnS nanoparticles. Because the emission process of the Cu+ luminescence center in ZnS nanocrystallites is remarkably different from that of the Cu2+ luminescence center, the emission spectra of Cu+-doped samples are different from those of Cu2+-doped samples.  相似文献

Monodispersed spherical ZnS particles as well as doped with Cu, Mn ions were synthesized from metal-chelate solutions of ethylenediamine tetraacetate (EDTA) and thioacetamide (TAA). The characterizations of the ZnS-based particles were investigated via TEM, SEM, XRD, TG/DTA and PL measurements. The sphere size was controlled from 50 nm to 1 μm by adjusting the nucleation temperatures and molar ratio of Zn-EDTA to TAA. The emission intensity continuously increased with the increase of the particle size. When the ZnS microspheres were annealed at 550-800 °C, there were two specific emission bands with the centers at 454 nm and 510 nm, which were associated with the trapped luminescence arising from the surface states and the stoichiometric vacancies, respectively. When Cu2+ was introduced into ZnS microspheres, the dominant emission was red-shifted from 454 to 508 nm, fluorescence intensity also sharply increased. However, for the Mn2+-doped ZnS, the emission intensity was significantly enhanced without the shift of emission site.  相似文献

Functionalized nanoparticles are discussed. Surfaces of CdS:Mn/ZnS core/shell nanospheres (Qdots) were converted from hydrophobic to hydrophilic by growth of a SiO2 shell. The colloidal dispersion was stabilize by adding a surfactant with a negative surface charge, and a cell-penetrating-peptide, TAT, was attached through a primary amine group. The TAT functionalized Qdots were shown to pass the blood-brain-barrier and luminescence in the infused half of the brain. In addition, nanorods of S2− rich CdS were synthesized by reaction of excess S with Cd precursors in the presence of ethylene diamine. The photoluminescence (PL) peak from the S2− rich CdS nanorods was broad with a maximum at ∼710 nm, which was 40 nm longer in wavelength than the PL peak from Cd2+ rich CdS (∼670 nm) nanorods. The influence of surface electron or hole trap states on the luminescent pathway of CdS nanorods were used to explain these shifts in wavelength. Nanocrystals of Au with ∼2 nm diameters were grown on S2− rich surfaces of CdS nanorods. Significant quenching of photoluminescence was observed from Au nanocrystals on CdS nanorods due to interfacial charge separation. Charge separation by Au nanocrystals on CdS resulted in enhanced UV photocatalytic degradation of Procion red mix-5B (PRB) dye in aqueous solution.  相似文献

The preparation of benzoic acid-functionalized CaF2:Ln3+ (Ln = Eu or Tb) nanoparticles and their sensitized luminescence are described in this report. First, to achieve sufficient proof for energy transfer from benzoic acid (BA) to lanthanide ions doped in nanoparticles, we employ Eu3+ as the microscopic probe and investigate the luminescent spectra of benzoic acid-functionalized CaF2:Eu3+ (BA-CaF2:Eu3+) nanoparticles. Next, to further reveal the difference between sensitized luminescence and common luminescence for Eu3+ doped in CaF2 nanoparticles, we study the emission spectra of BA-CaF2:Eu3+ nanoparticles excited at 286 nm and 397 nm, respectively. Finally, we analyze and compare the luminescent spectra of BA-CaF2:Tb3+ and CaF2:Ce3+, Tb3+ nanoparticles in detail. Our results indicate that both Eu3+ and Tb3+ doped in CaF2 nanoparticles can be efficiently sensitized through benzoic acid.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the luminescence properties of nanocrystalline CdS/Mn2+ particles is investigated. In addition to an orange Mn2+ emission around 585 nm a red defect related emission around 700 nm is observed. The temperature quenching of both emissions is similar (Tq≈100 K). For the defect emission the reduction in the lifetime follows the temperature dependence of the intensity. For the Mn2+ emission however, the intensity decreases more rapidly than the lifetime with increasing temperature. To explain these observations a model is proposed in which the Mn2+ ions are excited via an intermediate state involving shallowly trapped (≈40 meV) charge carriers.  相似文献

Optical properties and temperature-dependent quenching behaviors of emission from undoped and Eu-doped ZnS nanowires (NWs) were characterized. Electron paramagnetic resonance measurements confirmed the presence of the dopant in valence state Eu2+. The 368 nm (3.37 eV) near-band-edge emission band associated with dissociation of a bound exciton was found to have an activation energy of 27.3 meV. A dopant-related transition was observed from both samples due to the incorporation of unintentional Au catalyst in the undoped NWs and of intentional Eu-dopant. These dopant-related transitions show large activation energy and appreciable amount of emission intensities above the room temperature. Both samples also exhibit surface-state-related transitions around 400 nm (3.046 eV) which have relatively smaller activation energies than the dopant-related transitions.  相似文献

This work reports a new photoluminescence (PL) emission peak at about 402 nm from amorphous ZnO nanoparticles in a silica matrix, and the energy transfer from it to Eu3+ ions. The amorphous ZnO-SiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by the sol-gel method, which is verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) profiles and FT-IR spectra. The luminescence emission spectra are fitted by four Gauss profiles, two of which at longer wavelength are due to the defects of the material and the others to amorphous ZnO nanoparticles and the Zn-O-Si interface state. With the reduction of Zn/Si ratio and diethanolamine, the relative intensities of visible emission decrease. The weak visible emission is due to the reduction of defects after calcined at high temperature. The new energy state at the Zn-O-Si interface results in strong emission at about 402 nm. When Eu3+ ions are co-doped, weak energy transfer from ZnO-SiO2 nanocomposites to Eu3+ emission are observed in the excitation spectra.  相似文献

The field emission property of zinc sulphides nanorods synthesized in the thin film form on Si substrates has been studied. It is seen that ZnS nanorod thin films showed good field emission properties with a low-macroscopic turn-on field (2.9-6.3 V/μm). ZnS nanorods were synthesized by using radio frequency magnetron sputtering of a polycrystalline prefabricated ZnS target at a relatively higher pressure (10−1 mbar) and at a lower substrate temperature (233-273 K) without using any catalyst. Transmission electron microscopic image showed the formation of ZnS nanorods with high aspect ratio (>60). The field emission data were analysed using Fowler-Nordhiem theory and the nearly straight-line nature of the F-N plots confirmed cold field emission of electrons. It was also found that the turn-on field decreased with the decrease of nanorod's diameters. The optical properties of the ZnS nanorods were also studied. From the measurements of transmittance of the films deposited on glass substrates, the direct allowed bandgap values have been calculated and they were in the range 3.83-4.03 eV. The thickness of the films was ∼600 nm.  相似文献

Synthesis and photoluminescence characteristics of doped ZnS nanoparticles   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Free-standing powders of doped ZnS nanoparticles have been synthesized by using a chemical co-precipitation of Zn2+, Mn2+, Cu2+ and Cd2+ with sulfur ions in aqueous solution. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the diameter of the particles is ∼2–3 nm. The unique luminescence properties, such as the strength (its intensity is about 12 times that of ZnS nanoparticles) and stability of the visible-light emission, were observed from ZnS nanoparticles co-doped with Cu2+ and Mn2+. The nanoparticles could be doped with copper and manganese during the synthesis without altering the X-ray diffraction pattern. However, doping shifts the luminescence to 520–540 nm in the case of co-doping with Cu2+ and Mn2+. Doping also results in a blue shift on the excitation wavelength. In Cd2+-doped ZnS nanometer-scale particles, the fluorescence spectra show a red shift in the emission wavelength (ranging from 450 nm to 620 nm). Also a relatively broad emission (ranging from blue to yellow) has been observed. The results strongly suggest that doped ZnS nanocrystals, especially two kinds of transition metal-activated ZnS nanoparticles, form a new class of luminescent materials. Charoite is a hydrous alkali calcium silicate mineral [K4NaCa7Ba0.75Mn0.2Fe0.05(Si6O15)2(Si2O7)Si4O9(OH)·3(H2O)] exhibiting an intense lilac colour related to Mn2+ and Fe3+ colour centres. These ions also contribute to a strong luminescence at ∼585 and 705 nm. This work studies the thermal dependence of these luminescent centres by (i) thermoluminescence (TL) of pre-heated and pre-irradiated charoite aliquots, (ii) by time-resolved cathodoluminescence (TRS-CL) at room and cryogenic temperatures (RT and CT), (iii) by spatially resolved spectra CL under scanning electron microscopy (SRS-CL-SEM) and (iv) by ion beam spectra luminescence (IBL) with H+, H2+ and 4He+ ions at RT and LT. The main peak, ∼585 nm, is linked to a transition 4T1,2 (G)→6A7(S) in Mn2+ ions in distorted six-fold coordination and the emission at ∼705 nm with Fe2+→Fe3+ oxidation in Si4+ lattice sites. Less intense UV-blue emissions at 340 and 390 nm show multi-order kinetic TL glow curves involving continuous processes of electron trapping and de-trapping along with an irreversible phase transition of charoite by de-hydroxylation and lattice shortening of Δa=0.219 Å, Δb=0.182 Å; Δc=0.739 Å. The Si-O stressed lattice of charoite has non-bridging oxygen or silicon vacancy-hole centres, and Si-O bonding defects which seem to be responsible for the 340 nm emission. Extrinsic defects such as the alkali (or hydrogen)—compensated [AlO4/M+] centres could be linked with the 390 nm emission. Large variations in 585 and 705 nm intensities are strongly temperature dependent, modifying local Fe-O and Mn-O bond distances, short-range-order luminescence centres being very resistant under the action of the heavy ion beam of 4He+. The SRS-CL demonstrates strong spatial heterogeneity in the luminescence of the charoite.  相似文献

In this work the preparation, characterization and photoluminescence studies of pure and copper-doped ZnS nanophosphors are reported, which are prepared by using solid-state reaction technique at a temperature of 100 °C. The as-obtained samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-VIS Reflectance spectroscopy. The XRD analysis confirms the formation of cubic phase of undoped as well as Cu2+-doped ZnS nanoparticles. Furthermore it shows that the average size of pure as well as copper-doped samples ranges from 15 to 50 nm. The room-temperature PL spectra of the undoped ZnS sample showed two main peaks centered at around 421 and 450 nm, which are the characteristic emissions of interstitial zinc and sulfur vacancies, respectively. The PL of the doped sample showed a broad-band emission spectrum centered at 465 nm accompanied with shoulders at around 425, 450 and 510 nm, which are the characteristic emission peaks of interstitial zinc, sulfur vacancies and Cu2+ ions, respectively. Our experimental results indicate that the PL spectrum confirms the presence of Cu2+ ions in the ZnS nanoparticles as expected.  相似文献

This report presents the luminescence properties of Ce3+ and Pr3+ activated Sr2Mg(BO3)2 under VUV-UV and X-ray excitation. The five excitation bands of crystal field split 5d states are observed at about 46 729, 44 643, 41 667, 38 314 and 29 762 cm−1 (i.e. 214, 224, 240, 261 and 336 nm) for Ce3+ in the host lattice. The doublet Ce3+ 5d→4f emission bands were found at about 25 840 and 24 096 cm−1 (387 and 415 nm). The influence of doping concentration and temperature on the emission characteristics and the decay time of Ce3+ in Sr2Mg(BO3)2 were investigated. For Pr3+ doped samples, the lowest 5d excitation band was observed at about 42017 cm−1 (238 nm), a dominant band at around 35714 cm−1 (280 nm) and two shoulder bands were seen in the emission spectra. The excitation and emission spectra of Ce3+ and Pr3+ were compared and discussed. The X-ray excited luminescence studies show that the light yields are ∼3200±230 and ∼1400±100 photons/MeV of absorbed X-ray energy for the samples Sr1.86Ce0.07Na0.07Mg(BO3)2 and Sr1.82Pr0.09Na0.09Mg(BO3)2 at RT, respectively.  相似文献

The energy transfer processes in Lu2SiO5:Ce3+ luminescence was investigated through the temperature dependent luminescence under excitation with VUV-UV. Ce1 center emission peaking at 393 and 422 nm and Ce2 center emission peaking at 462 nm were observed. Ce2 center emission is enhanced with the temperature, which can be explained by the rate of energy transfer from Ce1 center increases when the temperature rises. The Ce1 emission shows the thermal quenching effect under the direct excitation of Ce3+ at 262 nm. However, under the interband excitation of 183 nm, the Ce1 center emission exhibits undulating temperature dependence. This is because the emission is governed by thermal quenching and possible thermal enhancement of the transport of free carriers with the rising temperature.  相似文献

Yttrium aluminum garnet nanoparticles both undoped and doped with lanthanide ions (Ce3+, Eu3+, Dy3+ and Tb3+) having average size around 30 (±3 nm) nm were prepared by glycine nitrate combustion method followed by annealing at a relatively low temperature of 800 °C. Increase in the annealing temperature has been found to improve the luminescence intensity and for 1200 °C heated samples there exists strong energy transfer from Tb3+ to Ce3+ ions in YAG:Ce(2%),Tb(2%) nanoparticles as revealed by luminescence studies. Co-doping the YAG:Ce nanoparticles with Eu3+ results in significant decrease in the emission intensity of both Ce3+ and Eu3+ ions and this has been attributed to the oxidation of Ce3+ to Ce4+ and reduction of Eu3+ to Eu2+ ions. Dy3+ co-doping did not have any effect on the Ce3+ emission as there is no energy transfer between Dy3+ and Ce3+ ions.  相似文献

NaYF4:Yb3+,Tm3+ nanorods are prepared with hydrothermal method. The upconversion luminescent properties are investigated under dual excitation of 980 nm and 808 nm. The blue emission is observed at about 475 nm under dual excitation. The intensity is 2.6 times higher than the total intensity of the two corresponding single wavelength excitations, showing a synergistic upconversion effect occurring there. The dual wavelength excitation not only effectively decreases non-radiative relaxation pumped by 980 nm but also reduces the rate of the back energy transfer from Tm3+ to Yb3+ pumped by 808 nm. The result provides a possible new way to further improve the upconversion efficiency of rare earth doped phosphor.  相似文献
