Gould et al. (Combinatorics, Graph Theory and Algorithms, Vol. 1, 1999, pp. 387–400) considered a variation of the classical Turán-type extremal problems as follows: For a given graph H, determine the smallest even integer σ(H,n) such that every n-term graphic sequence π=(d1,d2,…,dn) with term sum σ(π)=d1+d2++dnσ(H,n) has a realization G containing H as a subgraph. In this paper, for given integers k and ℓ, ℓ7 and 3kℓ, we completely determine the smallest even integer σ(kC,n) such that each n-term graphic sequence π=(d1,d2,…,dn) with term sum σ(π)=d1+d2++dnσ(kC,n) has a realization G containing a cycle of length r for each r, krℓ.  相似文献

In this paper an exponential type of bound for P(Dn ), for any >0, and a rate for the almost sure convergence of Dn are obtained under strong mixing. These results generalize those of Singh (1975) for the independent and non-identically distributed sequence of r.v.'s to the case of strong mixing.  相似文献

A graph G with n vertices is said to be embeddable (in its complement) if there is an automorphism φ of Kn such that E(G) ∩ E(φ(G))=. It is known that all trees T with n (≥2) vertices and T K1,n−1 are embeddable. We say that G is 1-embeddable if, for every edge e, there is an automorphism φ of Kn such that E(G) ∩ E(φ(G))={e};and that it is 2-embeddable if,for every pair e1, e2 of edges, there is an automorphism φ of Kn such that E(G) ∩ E(φ(G))={e1, e2}. We prove here that all trees with n (3) vertices are 1-embeddable; and that all trees T with n (4) vertices and T K1,n−1 are 2-embeddable. In a certain sense, this result is sharp.  相似文献

Let Z3 be the cyclic group of order 3. Define σ(Z3, m, n) to be the minimum integer k such that every bigraphic pair S=(a1,...,am; b1,...,bn) with am, bn ≥ 2 and σ(S)=a1 +... + amk has a Z3-connected realization. For n=m, Yin[Discrete Math., 339, 2018-2026 (2016)] recently determined the values of σ(Z3, m, m) for m ≥ 4. In this paper, we completely determine the values of σ(Z3, m, n) for m n ≥ 4.  相似文献

A set X of subsets of an n-element set S is called an anti-chain if no two elements of X are related by set-wise inclusion. Sperner showed [8] that max |X|=(n[n/2]), where |X| denotes the number of elements in X and the maximum is taken over all anti-chains of subsets of S.

The Ramsey number r(H,Kn) is the smallest integer N so that each graph on N vertices that fails to contain H as a subgraph has independence number at least n. For an open set Θ of k, let \s{Pθ: θ Θ\s} be a parametric family of probabilities modeling the distribution of i.i.d. random variables X1,…, Xn. Suppose Xi's are subject to right censoring and one is only able to observe the pairs (min(Xi, Yi), [Xi Yi]), i = 1,…, n, where [A] denotes the indicator function of the event A, Y1,…, Yn are independent of X1,…, Xn and i.i.d. with unknown distribution Q0. This paper investigates estimation of the value θ that gives a fitted member of the parametric family when the distributions of X1 and Y1 are subject to contamination. The constructed estimators are adaptive under the semi-parametric model and robust against small contaminations: they achieve a lower bound for the local asymptotic minimax risk over Hellinger neighborhoods, in the Hájel—Le Cam sense. The work relies on Beran (1981). The construction employs some results on product-limit estimators.  相似文献

If are maximal nests on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space H, the dimension of the intersection of the corresponding nest algebras is at least dim H. On the other hand, there are three maximal nests whose nest algebras intersect in the scalar operators. The dimension of the intersection of two nest algebras (corresponding to maximal nests) can be of any integer value from n to n(n+1)/2, where n=dim H. For any two maximal nests there exists a basis {f1,f2,…,fn} of H and a permutation π such that and where Mi=  span{f1,f2,…,fi} and Ni= span{fπ(1),fπ(2),…,fπ(i)}. The intersection of the corresponding nest algebras has minimum dimension, namely dim H, precisely when π(j)=nj+1,1jn. An up–down permutation P=(p1,p2,…,pn) is a permutation of the integers 1 to n which satisfies constraints specified by a sequence C=(c1,c2,…,cn−1) of U's and D's of length n−1. If ci is U then pi<pi+1 otherwise pi−1>pi. A loopless algorithm is developed for generating all the up–down permutations satisfying any sequence C. Let X1, X2,…be identically distributed random variables from an unknown continuous distribution. Further let Ir(1), Ir(2),…be a sequence of indicator functions defined on X1, X2,…by Ir(k) = 0 if k < r, Ir(k) = 1 if Xk is a r-record AND = 0 otherwise. Suppose that we observe X1, X2,… at times T1 < T2 <… where the Tk's are realisations of some regular counting process (N(τ)) defined on the positive half-line. Having observed [0, τ], say, the problem is to predict the future behaviour of the counting processes (Rr(τ, s)) = # r-records in [τ, s]. More specifically the objective of this paper is to show that these processes can be (inhomogeneous) Poisson processes even if (N(τ))τ0 has dependent increments.

The strong link between optimal selection and optimal stopping of record sequences or record processes, perhaps not fully recognized so far, is pointed out in this paper. It is shown to lead to a unification of the treatment of problems which, at first sight, are rather different. Moreover the stopping of record processes in continuous time can lead to rigorous and elegant solutions in cases where dynamic programming is bound to fail. Several examples will be given to facilitate a comparison with other methods.  相似文献

The SUM COLORING problem consists of assigning a color c(vi)Z+ to each vertex viV of a graph G=(V,E) so that adjacent nodes have different colors and the sum of the c(vi)'s over all vertices viV is minimized. In this note we prove that the number of colors required to attain a minimum valued sum on arbitrary interval graphs does not exceed min{n;2χ(G)−1}. Examples from the papers [Discrete Math. 174 (1999) 125; Algorithmica 23 (1999) 109] show that the bound is tight.  相似文献

The chromatic difference sequence cds(G) of a graph G with chromatic number n is defined by cds(G) = (a(1), a(2),…, a(n)) if the sum of a(1), a(2),…, a(t) is the maximum number of vertices in an induced t-colorable subgraph of G for t = 1, 2,…, n. The Cartesian product of two graphs G and H, denoted by GH, has the vertex set V(GH = V(G) x V(H) and its edge set is given by (x1, y1)(x2, y2) ε E(GH) if either x1 = x2 and y1 y2 ε E(H) or y1 = y2 and x1x2 ε E(G).

We obtained four main results: the cds of the product of bipartite graphs, the cds of the product of graphs with cds being nondrop flat and first-drop flat, the non-increasing theorem for powers of graphs and cds of powers of circulant graphs.  相似文献

We form squares from the product of integers in a short interval [n, n + tn], where we include n in the product. If p is prime, p|n, and (2p) > n, we prove that p is the minimum tn. If no such prime exists, we prove tn √5n when n> 32. If n = p(2p − 1) and both p and 2p − 1 are primes, then tn = 3p> 3 √n/2. For n(n + u) a square > n2, we conjecture that a and b exist where n < a < b < n + u and nab is a square (except n = 8 and N = 392). Let g2(n) be minimal such that a square can be formed as the product of distinct integers from [n, g2(n)] so that no pair of consecutive integers is omitted. We prove that g2(n) 3n − 3, and list or conjecture the values of g2(n) for all n. We describe the generalization to kth powers and conjecture the values for large n.  相似文献

Given an infinite sequence t=(k)k of −1 and +1, we consider the oriented walk defined by Sn(t)=∑k=1n12k. The set of t's whose behaviors satisfy Sn(t)bnτ is considered ( and 0<τ1 being fixed) and its Hausdorff dimension is calculated. A two-dimensional model is also studied. A cover (bipartite) of a graph G is a family of complete bipartite subgraphs of G whose edges cover G's edges. G'sbipartite dimension d(G) is the minimum cardinality of a cover, and its bipartite degree η(G) is the minimum over all covers of the maximum number of covering members incident to a vertex. We prove that d(G) equals the Boolean interval dimension of the irreflexive complement of G, identify the 21 minimal forbidden induced subgraphs for d 2, and investigate the forbidden graphs for d n that have the fewest vertices. We note that for complete graphs, d(Kn) = [log2n], η(Kn) = d(Kn) for n 16, and η(Kn) is unbounded. The list of minimal forbidden induced subgraphs for η 2 is infinite. We identify two infinite families in this list along with all members that have fewer than seven vertices.  相似文献

In this paper, we show that if there exist k(≥ 1) centripetal point pairs of f(relative to p)in {(x_i; x_i+1) : 0 ≤ i ≤ n-1} and n = sk + r(0 ≤ r ≤ k-1), then f has an R-periodic orbit, where R = s + 1 if s is even, and R = s if s is odd and r = 0, and R = s + 2 if s is odd and r 0. Let H be a Hopf algebra over a field k and let H AA, h ah.a, be an action of H on a commutative local Noetherian kalgebra (A, m). We say that this action is linearizable if there exists a minimal system x1, …, xn of generators of the maximal ideal m such that h.xi ε kx1 + …+ kxn for all h ε H and i = 1, …, n.
