An advantage of the temporal fe method is that higher-order accurate time integrators can be constructed easily. A further important advantage is the inherent energy consistency if applied to equations of motion. The temporal fe method is therefore used to construct higher-order energy-momentum conserving time integrators for nonlinear elastodynamics (see Ref. [1]). Considering finite motions of a flexible solid body with internal dissipation, an energy consistent time integration is also of great advantage (see the references [2, 3]). In this paper, we show that an energy consistent time integration is also advantageous for dynamics with dissipation arising from conduction of heat as well as from a viscous material. The energy consistency is preserved by using a new enhanced hybrid Galerkin (ehG) method. The obtained numerical schemes satisfy the energy balance exactly, independent of their accuracy and the used time step size. This guarantees numerical stability. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this study, we present a conservative local discontinuous Galerkin(LDG) method for numerically solving the two-dimensional nonlinear Schrdinger(NLS) equation. The NLS equation is rewritten as a firstorder system and then we construct the LDG formulation with appropriate numerical flux. The mass and energy conserving laws for the semi-discrete formulation can be proved based on different choices of numerical fluxes such as the central, alternative and upwind-based flux. We will propose two kinds of time discretization methods for the semi-discrete formulation. One is based on Crank-Nicolson method and can be proved to preserve the discrete mass and energy conservation. The other one is Krylov implicit integration factor(IIF) method which demands much less computational effort. Various numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the conservation law of mass and energy, the optimal rates of convergence, and the blow-up phenomenon.  相似文献

In this paper, a class of nonlinear Riesz space-fractional Schrödinger equations are considered. Based on the standard Galerkin finite element method in space and Crank-Nicolson difference method in time, the semi-discrete and fully discrete systems are constructed. By Brouwer fixed point theorem and fractional Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality, we prove the fully discrete system is uniquely solvable. Moreover, we focus on a rigorous analysis and consideration of the conservation and convergence properties for the semi-discrete and fully discrete systems. Finally, a linearized iterative finite element algorithm is introduced and some numerical examples are given to confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

A class of semi-discrete third-order relaxation schemes are presented for relaxation systems which approximate systems of hyperbolic conservation laws. These schemes for the scalar conservation law are shown to satisfy the property of total variation diminishing (TVD) in the zero relaxation limit. A third-order TVD Runge–Kutta splitting method is developed for the temporal discretization of the semi-discrete schemes. Numerical results are given illustrating these schemes on one-dimensional nonlinear problems.  相似文献

The purpose of this contribution is the time integration error estimation for continuous Galerkin schemes applied to the linear semi-discrete equation of motion. A special focus is on the effort for the error estimation for large finite element models. Error estimators for the global time integration error as well as for the local error in the last time interval are presented. The Galerkin formulation in time allows the application of the well-known duality based error estimation techniques for the estimation of the time integration error. The main effort of these error estimators is the computation of the dual solution. In order to diminish the computational effort for solving the dual problem the error estimation is carried out in a reduced modal basis. The relevant modes which have to remain in the basis can be determined via the initial conditions of the dual problem. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We develop two linear, second order energy stable schemes for solving the governing system of partial differential equations of a hydrodynamic phase field model of binary fluid mixtures. We first apply the Fourier pseudo-spectral approximation to the partial differential equations in space to obtain a semi-discrete, time-dependent, ordinary differential and algebraic equation (DAE) system, which preserves the energy dissipation law at the semi-discrete level. Then, we discretize the DAE system by the Crank-Nicolson (CN) and the second-order backward differentiation/extrapolation (BDF/EP) method in time, respectively, to obtain two fully discrete systems. We show that the CN method preserves the energy dissipation law while the BDF/EP method does not preserve it exactly but respects the energy dissipation property of the hydrodynamic model. The two new fully discrete schemes are linear, unconditional stable, second order accurate in time and high order in space, and uniquely solvable as linear systems. Numerical examples are presented to show the convergence property as well as the efficiency and accuracy of the new schemes in simulating mixing dynamics of binary polymeric solutions.  相似文献

In the present study, the coupled nonlinear dynamics of an axially moving viscoelastic beam with time-dependent axial speed is investigated employing a numerical technique. The equations of motion for both the transverse and longitudinal motions are obtained using Newton’s second law of motion and the constitutive relations. A two-parameter rheological model of the Kelvin–Voigt energy dissipation mechanism is employed in the modelling of the viscoelastic beam material, in which the material time derivative is used in the viscoelastic constitutive relation. The Galerkin method is then applied to the coupled nonlinear equations, which are in the form of partial differential equations, resulting in a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with time-dependent coefficients due to the axial acceleration. A change of variables is then introduced to this set of ODEs to transform them into a set of first-order ordinary differential equations. A variable step-size modified Rosenbrock method is used to conduct direct time integration upon this new set of first-order nonlinear ODEs. The mean axial speed and the amplitude of the speed variations, which are taken as bifurcation parameters, are varied, resulting in the bifurcation diagrams of Poincaré maps of the system. The dynamical characteristics of the system are examined more precisely via plotting time histories, phase-plane portraits, Poincaré sections, and fast Fourier transforms (FFTs).  相似文献

The time variable in the semi-discrete problem is still continuous. In order to obtain an expected numerical solution, discretization the time variable from the semi-discrete form (full discretization) is needed. For a kind of non-stationarily singular perturbation problem in 1D, a fully discrete discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method is considered. That is to say, space variable is discretized with a primal DG method with penalty, and time variable is done using the backward Euler method. By virtue of duality arguments, inverse estimation of finite element method and interpolation theory, we present a residual-type a posteriori error indicator, which is usually used for adaptivity.  相似文献

In this paper, the discontinuous Galerkin (dG) method is introduced and applied for a problem of nearly incompressible material behavior, where the standard finite element method, namely the conventional continuous Galerkin (cG) method faces the well-known problem of volumetric locking. The highlight of the work lies in the reduced integration scheme for the boundary terms of the dG method. Two different reduced and mixed integration schemes are presented and applied to reduce the calculation time. The dG method converges much faster than standard cG method with respect to the number of the elements, provided that the penalty value is sufficiently large. (© 2016 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We consider the numerical solution of a nonlinear evolutionary variational inequality, arising in the study of quasistatic contact problems. We study spatially semi-discrete and fully discrete schemes for the problem with several discontinuous Galerkin discretizations in space and finite difference discretization in time. Under appropriate regularity assumptions on the solution, a unified error analysis is established for the schemes, reaching the optimal convergence order for linear elements. Numerical results are presented on a two dimensional test problem to illustrate numerical convergence orders.  相似文献

We introduce the concept of fast wavelet‐Taylor Galerkin methods for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. In wavelet‐Taylor Galerkin method discretization in time is performed before the wavelet based spatial approximation by introducing accurate generalizations of the standard Euler, θ and leap‐frog time‐stepping scheme with the help of Taylor series expansions in the time step. We will present two different time‐accurate wavelet schemes to solve the PDEs. First, numerical schemes taking advantage of the wavelet bases capabilities to compress the operators and sparse representation of functions which are smooth, except for in localized regions, up to any given accuracy are presented. Here numerical experiments deal with advection equation with the spiky solution in one dimension, two dimensions, and nonlinear equation with a shock in solution in two dimensions. Second, our schemes deal with more regular class of problems where wavelets are not efficient procedure for data compression but we can use the good approximation properties of wavelet. Here time‐accurate schemes lead to consistent mass matrix in an explicit time stepping, which can be solved by approximate factorization techniques. Numerical experiment deals with more regular class of problems like heat equation as well as coupled linear system in two dimensions. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well–known problem in long–term simulations of flexible solid bodies is the restriction to small time steps of standard time integrators in order to obtain a stable simulation. One approach is to achieve exact energy conservation while simulating a nonlinear elastic body (see Reference [1] and the references therein). Additionally, total linear and total angular momentum is conserved for a free motion. This approach leads to a qualitatively improved solution, because the approximated time evolution exactly fulfills the same physical laws as the exact time evolution. Incorporating energy dissipation, the energy conserving time integration is extended to an energy consistent time integration. It turned out that such an energy consistent time integration is also of great advantage when computing finite motions of flexible solid bodies with material dissipation (see References [2,3]). This paper points out that an energy consistent time discretisation is also advantageous for dynamic finite deformation thermoviscoelasticity under dynamic loads. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. An energy preserving reduced order model is developed for two dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with plane wave solutions and with an external potential. The NLSE is discretized in space by the symmetric interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (SIPG) method. The resulting system of Hamiltonian ordinary differential equations are integrated in time by the energy preserving average vector field (AVF) method. The mass and energy preserving reduced order model (ROM) is constructed by proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) Galerkin projection. The nonlinearities are computed for the ROM efficiently by discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM) and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD). Preservation of the semi-discrete energy and mass are shown for the full order model (FOM) and for the ROM which ensures the long term stability of the solutions. Numerical simulations illustrate the preservation of the energy and mass in the reduced order model for the two dimensional NLSE with and without the external potential. The POD-DMD makes a remarkable improvement in computational speed-up over the POD-DEIM. Both methods approximate accurately the FOM, whereas POD-DEIM is more accurate than the POD-DMD.  相似文献

Abstract. Ogr object in this artlcle is to describe tbe Galerkln scheme and nonlin-eax Galerkin scheme for the approximation of nonlinear evolution equations, and tostudy the stability of these schemes. Spatial discretizatlon can be pedormed by eitherGalerkln spectral method or nonlinear Galerldn spectral method; time discretizatlort isdone hy Euler sin.heine wklch is explicit or implicit in the nonlinear terms. According tothe stability analysis of the above schemes, the stability of nonllneex Galerkln methodis better than that of Galexkln method.  相似文献

In this article, we present a new fully discrete finite element nonlinear Galerkin method, which are well suited to the long time integration of the Navier-Stokes equations. Spatial discretization is based on two-grid finite element technique; time discretization is based on Euler explicit scheme with variable time step size. Moreover, we analyse the boundedness, convergence and stability condition of the finite element nonlinear Galerkin method. Our discussion shows that the time step constraints of the method depend only on the coarse grid parameter and the time step constraints of the finite element Galerkin method depend on the fine grid parameter under the same convergence accuracy. Based on multiquadric trigonometric quasi-interpolation, the paper proposes a meshless symplectic scheme for Hamiltonian wave equation with periodic boundary conditions. The scheme first discretizes the equation in space using an iterated derivative approximation method based on multiquadric trigonometric quasi-interpolation and then in time with an appropriate symplectic scheme. This in turn yields a finite-dimensional semi-discrete Hamiltonian system whose energy and momentum (approximations of the continuous ones) are invariant with respect to time. The key feature of the scheme is that it conserves both the energy and momentum of the Hamiltonian system for both uniform and scattered centers, while classical energy-momentum conserving schemes are only for uniform centers. Numerical examples provided at the end of the paper show that the scheme is efficient and easy to implement.  相似文献
