Solvability,controllability, and observability of singular systems

The problems of solvability, controllability, and observability for the singular systemKx(t)=Ax(t)+Bu(t) are studied, whereK is a singular, square matrix andu(t) is a complex vector function sufficiently differentiable. The classical theories of matrix pencils are first related to the solvability of singular systems. Then, the concepts of reachability, controllability, and observability of regular systems are extended to singular systems. Finally, the set of reachable states is described. The proposed matrix conditions for testing the controllability and observability of singular systems are simple and always feasible.

Exact boundary observability for a kind of second order quasilinear hyperbolic systems and its applications

In this paper, by means of a constructive method based on the existence and uniqueness of the semi-global C² solution, we establish the local exact boundary observability for a kind of second order quasilinear hyperbolic systems. As an application, we obtain the one-sided local exact boundary observability for a kind of first order quasilinear hyperbolic systems of diagonal form with boundary conditions in which the diagonal variables corresponding to the positive eigenvalues and those corresponding to the negative eigenvalues are decoupled.     

Controllability and Observability of Linear Quaternion-valued Systems

The aim of this paper is to define an extension of the controllability and observability for linear quaternion-valued systems (QVS). Some criteria for controllability and observability are derived, and the minimum norm control and duality theorem are also investigated. Compared with real-valued or complex-valued linear systems, it is shown that the classical Caylay-Hamilton Theorem as well as Popov-Belevitch-Hautus (PBH) type controllability and observability test do not hold for linear QVS. Hence, a modified PBH type necessary condition is studied for the controllability and observability, respectively. Finally, some examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Exact boundary observability for a kind of second-order quasilinear hyperbolic system

As an application, we obtain the one-sided local exact boundary observability and two-sided local exact boundary observability with fewer observed values for first-order quasilinear hyperbolic systems of diagonal form with boundary conditions in which the diagonal variables corresponding to the positive eigenvalues and those corresponding to the negative ones are decoupled.     

Exact Boundary Controllability and Exact Boundary Observability for a Coupled System of Quasilinear Wave Equations

Based on the theory of semi-global classical solutions to quasilinear hyperbolic systems, the authors apply a unified constructive method to establish the local exact boundary(null) controllability and the local boundary(weak) observability for a coupled system of 1-D quasilinear wave equations with various types of boundary conditions.

The observability problem for beam vibrations described by a fourth-order partial differential equation with various boundary conditions is considered. Dynamic observability problems are solved in terms of boundary conditions and observations of the beam state at certain fixed instants of time.     

Minimality and reductibility of conditionally poisson systems with finite state space

In this paper we consider stochastic systems with finite state space and counting process output. In particular we address the question whether a given system has a minimal representation, where roughly speaking minimality means minimality of the size of the state space. We show that minimality is connected to a suitably defined notion of observability. Finally we present an algorithm that enables us, starting from a given representation, to construct a minimal representation for the same system

The observability of linear singularly perturbed systems in state space

The state-space method is used to investigate the complete x- and y-relative observability of linear stationary singularly perturbed (LSSP) systems. Criteria, necessary conditions and sufficient conditions, phrased in terms of matrix ranks, are obtained for the observability; they involve the solutions of the defining equations, which are recurrent algebraic matrix equations. Duality principles are established between the LSSP observed and the control systems with coefficients of varying scales, the LSSP observed systems and LSSP control systems, and the governing equations for the observed and control systems. An example is given.     

线性定常系统规范结构分解问题的研究

单输入单输出线性定常系统的状态空间按能控性和能观测性进行结构分解,能全面、完整的反映系统的各个子系统特性,理论上揭示状态空间的本质特征.通过规范性分解,不完全能控和不完全能观测的连续时间线性时不变系统可分解为"能控能观测","能控不能观测","不能控能观测","不能控不能观测"四个子空间,但是其分解后子空间的维度受非奇异变换矩阵P_c的影响.提出了一种约束变量的方法,用来选取P_c中列向量的规则,以控制原系统分解后子空间的表现形式.经实例验算,方法简单有效,具有一定的教学和理论意义.     

Observability of coupled systems

By applying the theory of semigroups, we generalize an earlier result of Komornik and Loreti [5] on the observability of compactly perturbed systems. As an application, we answer a question of the same authors concerning the observability of weakly coupled linear distributed systems. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Exact Boundary Observability of Unsteady Supercritical Flows in a Tree-Like Network of Open Canals

The author establishes the exact boundary observability of unsteady supercritical flows in a tree-like network of open canals with general topology. An implicit duality between the exact boundary controllability and the exact boundary observability is also given for unsteady supercritical flows.

Cauchy Matrices in the Observation of Diffusion Equations

Observability Gramians of diffusion equations have been recently connected to infinite Pick and Cauchy matrices. In fact, inverse or observability inequalities can be obtained after estimating the extreme eigenvalues of these structured matrices,with respect to the diffusion semi-group matrix. The purpose is hence to conduct a spectral study of a subclass of symmetric Cauchy matrices and present an algebraic way to show the desired observability results. We revisit observability inequalities for three different observation problems of the diffusion equation and show how they can be (re)stated through simple proofs.
