We study Birkhoff–James orthogonality of compact (bounded) linear operators between Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces. Applying the notion of semi-inner-products in normed linear spaces and some related geometric ideas, we generalize and improve some of the recent results in this context. In particular, we obtain a characterization of Euclidean spaces and also prove that it is possible to retrieve the norm of a compact (bounded) linear operator (functional) in terms of its Birkhoff–James orthogonality set. We also present some best approximation type results in the space of bounded linear operators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We present a necessary and sufficient condition for the norm-parallelism of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. We also give a characterization of the Birkhoff–James orthogonality for Hilbert space operators. Moreover, we discuss the connection between norm-parallelism to the identity operator and an equality condition for the Davis–Wielandt radius. Some other related results are also discussed.  相似文献

It is proved that a normed space, whose dimension is at least three, admitting a nonzero linear operator reversing Birkhoff orthogonality is an inner product space, which releases the smoothness condition in one of J. Chmieliński’s results. Further characterizations of inner product spaces are obtained by studying properties of linear operators related to Birkhoff orthogonality and isosceles orthogonality.  相似文献

A hierarchy of matrix-valued polynomials which generalize the Jacobi polynomials is found. Defined by a Rodrigues formula, they are also products of a sequence of differential operators. We derive discrete orthogonality relations for polynomials, dual to little and big q-Jacobi polynomials. This derivation essentially requires use of bases, consisting of eigenvectors of certain self-adjoint operators, which are representable by a Jacobi matrix. An eigen function expansion for the solution of the Lambropolous partial differential equation is obtained by the use of a transformation similar to the Bugolubov transformation familiar in Bose gas theory. The aim of this paper is to present a general algebraic formulation for the decoherence-free subspaces (DFSs). In order to build the DFSs we consider the tensor product of Clifford algebras and left minimal ideals. States, error operators and projection operators are defined in a purely algebraic point of view. For this purpose, we initially generalize some results of Pauli and Artin about semisimple algebras. Then we derive orthogonality theorems for associative algebras analogous to theorems for finite groups. Some advantages and perspectives are also discussed.  相似文献

For real normed spaces, we consider the class of linear operators, preserving approximately the relation of isosceles-orthogonality. We show some general properties of such mappings. Next, we examine whether an approximately orthogonality preserving mapping admits an approximation by an orthogonality preserving one. We consider the notion of real center of mass and total center of mass of a bounded linear operator relative to another bounded linear operator and explore their relation with cosine and total cosine of a bounded linear operator acting on a complex Hilbert space. We give another proof of the Min-max equality and then generalize it using the notion of orthogonality of bounded linear operators. We also illustrate with examples an alternative method of calculating the antieigenvalues and total antieigenvalues for finite dimensional operators.  相似文献

It was known that orthogonality preserving property and surjectivity of nonlinear Markov operators, acting on finite dimensional simpleces, are equivalent. It turns out that these notions are no longer equivalent when such kind of operators are considered over on infinite dimensional spaces. In the present paper, we find necessary and sufficient condition to be equivalent of these notions, for the second order nonlinear Markov operators. To do this, we fully describe all surjective second order nonlinear Markov operators acting on infinite dimensional simplex. As an application of this result, we provided some sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions of nonlinear integral equations whose domain are not compact.  相似文献

We examine some recent results of Bownik on density and connectivity of the wavelet frames. We use orthogonality (strong disjointness) properties of frame and Bessel sequences, and also properties of Bessel multipliers (operators that map wavelet Bessel functions to wavelet Bessel functions). In addition we obtain an asymptotically tight approximation result for wavelet frames.  相似文献

We extend the usual notion of orthogonality to Banach spaces. We show that the extension is quite rich in structure by establishing some of its main properties and consequences. Geometric characterizations and comparison results with other extensions are established. Also, we establish a characterization of compact operators on Banach spaces that admit orthonormal Schauder bases. Finally, we characterize orthogonality in the spaces l2p(C).  相似文献

In this paper, we study the spectra of finite difference operators generated by systems of multiple orthogonal polynomials and the corresponding systems of measures of Stieltjes type. We study nonsymmetric second order difference operators acting in the Hilbert space 𝓁2 and describe the resolvent set and the essential spectrum of such operators in terms of related formal orthogonal polynomials. As an application, we obtain new results on the growth of orthonormal polynomials outside and inside the support of the underlying measure of orthogonality.  相似文献

This paper presents 2 new classes of the Bessel functions on a compact domain [0,T] as generalized‐tempered Bessel functions of the first‐ and second‐kind which are denoted by GTBFs‐1 and GTBFs‐2. Two special cases corresponding to the GTBFs‐1 and GTBFs‐2 are considered. We first prove that these functions are as the solutions of 2 linear differential operators and then show that these operators are self‐adjoint on suitable domains. Some interesting properties of these sets of functions such as orthogonality, completeness, fractional derivatives and integrals, recursive relations, asymptotic formulas, and so on are proved in detail. Finally, these functions are performed to approximate some functions and also to solve 3 practical differential equations of fractionalorders.  相似文献
