A recently published paper by Lee [C.C. Lee, Two-warehouse inventory model with deterioration under FIFO dispatching policy, European Journal of Operational Research 174 (2006) 861–873] considers different dispatching models for the two-warehouse inventory system with deteriorating items, in which Pakkala and Achary’s LIFO (last-in–first-out) model [T.P.M. Pakkala, K.K. Achary, A deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items with two warehouses and finite replenishment rate, European Journal of Operational Research 57 (1992) 71–76] is first modified, and then the author concludes that the modified LIFO model always has a lower cost than Pakkala and Achary’s LIFO model under a particular condition specified by him. The present note points out that this conclusion is incorrect and misleading. Alternatively, we provide a new sufficient condition such that the modified LIFO model always has a lower cost than Pakkala and Achary’s model. Besides, we also compare Pakkala and Achary’s original LIFO model with Lee’s FIFO (first-in–first-out) model for the special case where the two warehouses have the same deteriorating rates. Finally, numerical examples are provided to investigate and examine the impact of corresponding parameters on policy choice. The results in this note give a much clearer picture than those at Lee’s paper about the relationships between the different dispatching policies for the two-warehouse inventory system with deterioration items.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items with two warehouses by minimizing the net present value of the total cost. Deterioration rates of items in the two warehouses may be different. In addition, we allow for shortages and complete backlogging. We then prove that the optimal replenishment policy not only exists but also is unique under some condition. Further, the result reveals that the reorder interval based on the average total cost, if it exists, must be longer than that derived using net present value. Finally, we use Yang’s [H.L. Yang, European Journal of Operational Research 157 (2004) 344–356] numerical example to illustrate the model and conclude the paper with suggestions for possible future research.  相似文献

In this paper, a deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items with two warehouses is developed. A rented warehouse is used when the ordering quantity exceeds the limited capacity of the owned warehouse, and it is assumed that deterioration rates of items in the two warehouses may be different. In addition, we allow for shortages in the owned warehouse and assume that the backlogging demand rate is dependent on the duration of the stockout. We obtain the condition when to rent the warehouse and provide simple solution procedures for finding the maximum total profit per unit time. Further, we use a numerical example to illustrate the model and conclude the paper with suggestions for possible future research.  相似文献

This paper presents an up-to-date review of the advances made in the field of inventory control of perishable items (deteriorating inventory). The last extensive review on this topic dates back to 2001 (Goyal S.K. and Giri B.C., Recent trends in modeling of deteriorating inventory, European Journal of Operational Research, 134, 1–16). Since then, over two hundred articles on this subject have been published in the major journals on inventory control, indicating the need for a new review. We use the classification of Goyal and Giri based on shelf life characteristics and demand characteristics. Contributions are highlighted by discussing main system characteristics, including price discounts, backordering or lost sales, single or multiple items, one or two warehouses, single or multi-echelon, average cost or discounted cash flow, and payment delay.  相似文献

This paper presents an inventory model for deteriorating items over a finite time horizon where the demand increases linearly with time. The method is developed by assuming that the successive replenishment cycle lengths are the same. Many O.R. scientists/researchers obtained an optimal replenishment schedule where the replenishment cost is constant in each cycle length over the finite time horizon. In this paper, we relax the assumption of fixed replenishment cost. The replenishment cost per replenishment is taken to be linearly dependent on the lot-size of that replenishment. Shortages are allowed and are fully backlogged. As a special case, the results for the model without shortages are derived. Finally, two numerical examples are presented to illustrate the model.  相似文献

In 1985, Goyal developed an Economic order quantity (EOQ) model under conditions of permissible delay in payments. Jamal et al. then generalized Goyal’s model for deteriorating items with completely backlogging. However, they only ran several simulations to indicate that the total relevant cost may be convex. Recently, Teng amended Goyal’s model by considering the difference between unit price and unit cost, and provided an alternative conclusion that it makes economic sense for some retailers to order less quantity and take the benefits of the permissible delay more frequently. However, he did not consider deteriorating items and partial backlogging. In this paper, we establish a general EOQ model for deteriorating items when the supplier offers a permissible delay in payments. For generality, our model allows not only the partial backlogging rate to be related to the waiting time but also the unit selling price to be larger than the unit purchase cost. Consequently, the proposed model includes numerous previous models as special cases. In addition, we mathematically prove that the total relevant cost is strictly pseudo-convex so that the optimal solution exists and is unique. Finally, our computational results reveal six managerial phenomena.  相似文献

This paper considers production-maintenance policy for the deteriorating production system which can go ‘out of control’ while producing items. Once out of control, the production process produces some proportion of defective items. The defective items are reworked at some cost before being shipped, or, if passed to the customer, incur much larger warranty cost. Thus, to operate this system economically, periodic inspection and restoration of the process are needed. A mathematical model representing the expected annual cost is developed to determine the production cycle and process inspection intervals jointly. A case of equally spaced inspection intervals is solved by using an approximation to the cost function.  相似文献

Two economic manufacturing quantity models with unrepairable and repairable standby key modules are proposed in this study that determine the economic production run length and the economic number of standbys in a deteriorating production process, where the key module of the production unit deteriorates over time and incurs some portion of defective items. For the model with unrepairable standbys, the active key module, once deteriorating, is replaced by a standby and the module itself is disposed. For the model with repairable standbys, the deteriorating key module is replaced by a standby and the module is then sent to the service center for maintenance. When completing the maintenance, it then joins the standbys for later production use. By minimizing the annual cost, which takes into account setup cost, holding cost, costs due to standbys and defective items, the economic production run length and the economic number of standbys are obtained for each of the proposed models.  相似文献

基于需求和采购价格均为时变的EOQ模型,考虑物品的变质率呈更符合现实情况的三参数Weibull分布,同时考虑短缺量拖后和资金时值对易变质物品库存管理的影响,构建了相应的EOQ模型.应用数学软件Matlab对该库存模型进行仿真计算和主要影响参数的灵敏度分析.结果表明,该模型存在最优解,且各主要影响参数对最优库存控制各有不同程度的影响,资金时值对库存总成本净现值的影响程度要甚于短缺量拖后的影响,故在制定科学的库存策略时资金时值需要更加关注.  相似文献

This paper is an extension of two papers. The first of these, published in European Journal of Operational Research, 2007, 112-120 is by Deng et al. (2007) and concerns inventory models for deteriorating items with ramp type demand. The second, published in Computer & Industrial Engineering, 2009, 1296-1300 is by Cheng and Wang (2009) and concerns inventory models for deteriorating items with trapezoidal type demand. The purpose of this paper is threefold. First, this paper will show that the optimal solution is independent of the demand considered in the two previous papers. Second, several replenishment cycles were considered during the finite time horizon, to balance the set-up cost with the sum of the deteriorated cost, holding cost, and shortage cost. Third, this paper will examine the same numerical example in Cheng and Wang (2009) to show that this new approach will result in the saving of 84.39%.  相似文献

Unlike the extensive inventory models for both ameliorating and deteriorating items, incorporating some specific features of these products have mostly been neglected. To fill this research gap, providing an appropriate mathematical inventory model for both ameliorating and deteriorating items is of paramount importance. In this regard, this paper proposes a novel mathematical inventory model for products called growing-mortal items in a two-echelon supply chain consisting of one supplier and one farmer. The proposed inventory model is more precise than analogous inventory models due to the fact that the specific growth function for the item is considered as well as mortality rate. As a case study, the model is applied to rainbow trout, which can be used for other types of growing-mortal items. Moreover, a feeding function is first-ever proposed for rainbow trout regarding the case study. The goal of this paper is to study the growth period in the supplier and then in the farmer sites to maximize the profit of the supplier as a leader and farmer as a follower under a Stackelberg game. To demonstrate how to reduce the inventory system costs by two coordination mechanisms, namely revenue-sharing and revenue and cost sharing, the model is solved under centralized and decentralized cases. Finally, sensitivity analysis on key parameters is also conducted to derive some managerial insights.  相似文献

A finite time horizon inventory problem for a deteriorating item having two separate warehouses, one is a own warehouse (OW) of finite dimension and other a rented warehouse (RW), is developed with interval-valued lead-time under inflation and time value of money. Due to different preserving facilities and storage environment, inventory holding cost is considered to be different in different warehouses. The demand rate of item is increasing with time at a decreasing rate. Shortages are allowed in each cycle and backlogged them partially. Shortages may or may not be allowed in the last cycle and under this circumstance, there may be three different types of model. Here it is assumed that the replenishment cycle lengths are of equal length and the stocks of RW are transported to OW in continuous release pattern. For each model, different scenarios are depicted depending upon the re-order point for the next lot. Representing the lead-time by an interval number and using the interval arithmetic, the single objective function for profit is changed to corresponding multi-objective functions. These functions are maximized and solved by Fast and Elitist Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (FEMGA). The models are illustrated numerically and the results are presented in tabular form.  相似文献

This paper derives an inventory model for deteriorating items with stock-dependent consumption rate and shortages under inflation and time discounting over a finite planning horizon. We show that the total cost function is convex. With the convexity, a simple solution algorithm is presented to determine the optimal order quantity and the optimal interval of the total cost function. The results are discussed with a numerical example and particular cases of the model are discussed in brief. A sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to the parameters of the system is carried out.  相似文献

The items that incur a gradual loss in quality or quantity over time while in inventory are usually called deteriorating items. In reality, there are some items whose value or utility or quantity increase with time and those items can be termed as ameliorating items. In this paper, an effort has been made to incorporate these two opposite physical characteristics of stored items into inventory model. We develop models for ameliorating/deteriorating items with time-varying demand pattern over a finite planning horizon, taking into account the effects of inflation and time value of money. Optimal solutions of the proposed models are derived and the effects of amelioration/deterioration on the inventory replenishment policies are studied with the help of numerical examples.  相似文献

The optimal replenishment policy and the decision rule which minimizes the total system cost are derived. A numerical example is given to illustrate the developed model.
