A new technique is presented for generating myocardial tagging using the signal intensity minima of the transition zones between the bands of 0° and 360° rotations, induced by a tandem of two adiabatic delays alternating with nutations for tailored excitation (DANTE) inversion sequences. With this approach, the underlying matrix corresponds to magnetization that has experienced 0° or 360° rotations. The DANTE sequences were implemented from adiabatic parent pulses for insensitivity of the underlying matrix to B1 inhomogeneity. The performance of the proposed tagging technique is demonstrated theoretically with computer simulations and experimentally on phantom and on the canine heart, using a surface coil for both RF transmission and signal reception. The simulations and the experimental data demonstrated uniform grid contrast and sharp tagging profiles over a twofold variation of the B1 field magnitude.  相似文献

We have derived approximate analytic solutions to the master equation describing the evolution of the spin I=3/2 density operator in the presence of a radio-frequency (RF) field and both static and fluctuating quadrupolar interactions. Spectra resulting from Fourier transformation of the evolutions of the on-resonance spin-locked magnetization into the various coherences display two satellite pairs and, in some cases, a central line. The central line is generally trimodal, consisting of a narrow component related to a slowly relaxing mode and two broad components pertaining to two faster relaxing modes. The rates of the fast modes are sensitive to slow molecular motion. Neither the amplitude nor the width of the narrow component is affected by the magnitude of the static coupling, whereas the corresponding features of the broad components depend in a rather complicated manner on the spin-lock field strength and static quadrupolar interaction. Under certain experimental conditions, the dependencies of the amplitudes on the dynamics are seen to vanish and the relaxation rates reduce to relatively simple expressions. One of the promising emerging features is the fact that the evolutions into the selectively detected quadrupolar spin polarization order and the rank-two double-quantum coherence do not exhibit a slowly relaxing mode and are particularly sensitive to slow molecular motion. Furthermore, these coherences can only be excited in the presence of a static coupling and this makes it possible to discern nuclei in anisotropic from those in isotropic environment. The feasibility of the spin-lock pulse sequences with limited RF power and a nonvanishing average electric field gradient has been demonstrated through experiments on sodium in a dense lyotropic DNA liquid crystal.  相似文献

New NMR broadband inversion pulses that compensate both for resonance offset and radiofrequency (RF) inhomogeneity are described. The approach described is a straightforward computer optimization of an initial digitized waveform generated from either a constant-amplitude frequency sweep or from an existing composite inversion pulse. Problems with convergence to local minima are alleviated by the way the optimization is carried out. For a given duration and maximum allowable RF field strength B1 (but not necessarily given RMS power deposition), the resultant broadband inversion pulse (BIP) shows superior inversion compared to inversion pulses obtained from previous methods, including adiabatic inversion pulses. Any existing BIP can be systematically elaborated to build up longer inversion pulses that perform over larger and larger bandwidths. The resulting pulse need not be adiabatic throughout its duration or across the entire operational bandwidth.  相似文献

While most proton (1H) spectra acquired in vivo utilize selective suppression of the solvent signal for more sensitive detection of signals from the dilute metabolites, recent reports have demonstrated the feasibility and advantages of collecting in vivo data without solvent attenuation. When these acquisitions are performed at short echo times, the presence of frequency modulations of the water resonance may become an obstacle to the identification and quantitation of metabolite resonances. The present report addresses the characteristics, origin, and elimination of these sidebands. Sideband amplitudes were measured as a function of delay time between gradient pulse and data collection, as a function of gradient pulse amplitude, and as a function of spatial location of the sample for each of the three orthogonal gradient sets. Acoustic acquisitions were performed to demonstrate the correlation between mechanical vibration resonances and the frequencies of MR sidebands. A mathematical framework is developed and compared with the experimental results. This derivation is based on the theory that these frequency modulations are induced by magnetic field fluctuations generated by the transient oscillations of gradient coils.  相似文献

Free induction decay (FID) signals in solid state NMR measurements performed with magic angle spinning can often be extended in time by factors on the order of 10 by a simple pulsed spin locking technique. The sensitivity of a structural measurement in which the structural information is contained in the dependence of the integrated FID amplitude on a preceding evolution period can therefore be enhanced substantially by pulsed spin locking in the signal detection period. We demonstrate sensitivity enhancements in a variety of solid state NMR techniques that are applicable to selectively isotopically labeled samples, including 13C-15N rotational echo double resonance (REDOR), 13C-13C dipolar recoupling measurements using the constant-time finite-pulse radio-frequency-driven recoupling (fpRFDR-CT) and constant-time double-quantum-filtered dipolar recoupling (CTDQFD) techniques, and torsion angle measurements using the double quantum chemical shift anisotropy (DQCSA) technique. Further, we demonstrate that the structural information in the solid state NMR data is not distorted by pulsed spin locking in the detection period.  相似文献

Recovery of the magnetic dipolar interaction between nuclei bearing the same gyromagnetic ratio in rotating solids can be promoted by synchronous rf irradiation. Determination of the dipolar interaction strength can serve as a tool for structural elucidation in polycrystalline powders. Spinning frequency dependent narrow-band (nb) RFDR and SEDRA experiments are utilized as simple techniques for the determination of dipolar interactions between the nuclei in coupled homonuclear spin pairs. The magnetization exchange and coherence dephasing due to a fixed number of rotor-synchronously applied pi-pulses is monitored at spinning frequencies in the vicinity of the rotational resonance (R(2)) conditions. The powder nbRFDR and nbSEDRA decay curves of spin magnetizations and coherences, respectively, as a function of the spinning frequency can be measured and analyzed using simple rate equations providing a quantitative measure of the dipolar coupling. The effects of the phenomenological relaxation parameters in these rate equations are discussed and an improved methodology is suggested for analyzing nbRFDR data for small dipolar couplings. The distance between the labeled nuclei in the 1,3-(13)C(2)-hydroxybutyric acid molecule is rederived using existing nbRFDR results and the new simulation procedure. A nbSEDRA experiment has been performed successfully on a powder sample of singly labeled 1-(13)C-L-leucine measuring the dipolar interaction between the labeled carboxyl carbon and the natural abundant beta-carbon. Both narrowband techniques are employed for the determination of the nuclear distances between the side-chain carbons of leucine and its carbonyl carbon in a tripeptide Leu-Gly-Phe that is singly (13)C-labeled at the leucine carbonyl carbon position.  相似文献

A new grid adaptation strategy, which minimizes the truncation error of a pth-order finite difference approximation, is proposed. The main idea of the method is based on the observation that the global truncation error associated with discretization on nonuniform meshes can be minimized if the interior grid points are redistributed in an optimal sequence. The method does not explicitly require the truncation error estimate, and at the same time, it allows one to increase the design order of approximation globally by one, so that the same finite difference operator reveals superconvergence properties on the optimal grid. Another very important characteristic of the method is that if the differential operator and the metric coefficients are evaluated identically by some hybrid approximation, then the single optimal grid generator can be employed in the entire computational domain independently of points where the hybrid discretization switches from one approximation to another. Generalization of the present method to multiple dimensions is presented. Numerical calculations of several one-dimensional and one two-dimensional test examples demonstrate the performance of the method and corroborate the theoretical results.  相似文献

A double resonance method for imaging of solid materials containing quadrupole nuclei via the coupled protons is reported. The technique uses a static field gradient to encode the position on the protons and the method of double resonance spin-echo to detect the occurrence of proton resonances by affecting the zero-field echo signal from the quadrupole system. The double resonance imaging method offers the advantages of higher spatial resolution and straightforward image reconstruction for powder samples compared with rotating-frame and Zeeman-perturbated nuclear quadrupole resonance encoding techniques.  相似文献

Size dependency of the relaxation time T1 was measured for laser-polarized 129Xe gas encapsulated in different sized cavities made by glass bulbs or gelatin capsules. The use of laser-polarized gas enhances the sensitivity a great deal, making it possible to measure the longer 129Xe relaxation time in quite a short time. The size dependency is analyzed on the basis of the kinetic theory of gases and a relationship is derived in which the relaxation rate is connected with the square inverse of the diameter of the cavity. Such an analysis provides a novel parameter which denotes the wall effect on the relaxation rate when a gas molecule collides with the surface once in a second. The relaxation time of 129Xe gas is also dependent on the material which forms the cavity. This dependency is large and the relaxation study using polarized 129Xe gas is expected to offer important information about the state of the matter of the cavity wall.  相似文献

Two 2D J-modulated HSQC-based experiments were designed for precise determination of small residual dipolar one-bond carbon–proton coupling constants in 13C natural abundance carbohydrates. Crucial to the precision of a few hundredths of Hz achieved by these methods was the use of long modulation intervals and BIRD pulses, which acted as semiselective inversion pulses. The BIRD pulses eliminated effective evolution of all but 1JCH couplings, resulting in signal modulation that can be described by simple modulation functions. A thorough analysis of such modulation functions for a typical four-spin carbohydrate spin system was performed for both experiments. The results showed that the evolution of the 1H–1H and long-range 1H–13C couplings during the BIRD pulses did not necessitate the introduction of more complicated modulation functions. The effects of pulse imperfections were also inspected. While weakly coupled spin systems can be analyzed by simple fitting of cross peak intensities, in strongly coupled spin systems the evolution of the density matrix needs to be considered in order to analyse data accurately. However, if strong coupling effects are modest the errors in coupling constants determined by the “weak coupling” analysis are of similar magnitudes in oriented and isotropic samples and are partially cancelled during dipolar coupling calculation. Simple criteria have been established as to when the strong coupling treatment needs to be invoked.  相似文献

A birdcage coil capable of operating simultaneously and independently in three orthogonal dimensions has been developed. A co-rotational end-ring mode producing an RF field in the longitudinal direction was utilized in addition to the two common transverse orthogonal modes. Two conductor turns were used for each of the coil's windows, increasing its inductance by a factor of four, thereby, making the coil suitable for low-frequency applications. Two or three-frequency detection can be easily carried out with this device. Orthogonality of the coil's channels allows arbitrarily close frequency positioning of each resonant mode, potentially useful in wide-line NQR studies, in which simultaneous excitation/detection of signals from three adjacent regions of a single wide line can be performed. The coil's performance was evaluated using a three-dimensional scheme, in which a circularly polarized experiment was combined with a linearly polarized measurement at another frequency, resulting in SNR improvement by 55%.  相似文献

Numerical simulation has become an indispensable tool for the interpretation of pulse EPR experiments. In this work it is shown how automatic orientation selection, grouping of operator factors, and direct selection and elimination of coherences can be used to improve the efficiency of time-domain simulations of one- and two-dimensional electron spin echo envelope modulation (ESEEM) spectra. The program allows for the computation of magnetic interactions of any symmetry and can be used to simulate spin systems with an arbitrary number of nuclei with any spin quantum number. Experimental restrictions due to finite microwave pulse lengths are addressed and the enhancement of forbidden coherences by microwave pulse matching is illustrated. A comparison of simulated and experimental HYSCORE (hyperfine sublevel correlation) spectra of ordered and disordered systems with varying complexity shows good qualitative agreement.  相似文献

We present new numerical methods for constructing approximate solutions to the Cauchy problem for Hamilton–Jacobi equations of the form ut+H(Dxu)=0. The methods are based on dimensional splitting and front tracking for solving the associated (non-strictly hyperbolic) system of conservation laws pt+DxH(p)=0, where p=Dxu. In particular, our methods depend heavily on a front tracking method for one-dimensional scalar conservation laws with discontinuous coefficients. The proposed methods are unconditionally stable in the sense that the time step is not limited by the space discretization and they can be viewed as “large-time-step” Godunov-type (or front tracking) methods. We present several numerical examples illustrating the main features of the proposed methods. We also compare our methods with several methods from the literature.  相似文献

Stray-field techniques are reported for 31P studies of solids for a variety of compounds including bone, bone meal and calcium hydroxyapatite. Long Hahn echo trains produced by the application of many pulses were used as in the long echo-train summation technique. Double-resonance enhancements of 31P by use of both direct and indirect experiments were attempted on a sample of NH4PF6:31P{19F} double resonance produced, at most, a 26% increase in the initial level of the 31P echo signal.  相似文献

An algorithm is presented for the solution of the time dependent reaction-diffusion systems which arise in non-equilibrium radiation diffusion applications. This system of nonlinear equations is solved by coupling three numerical methods, Jacobian-free Newton–Krylov, operator splitting, and multigrid linear solvers. An inexact Newton's method is used to solve the system of nonlinear equations. Since building the Jacobian matrix for problems of interest can be challenging, we employ a Jacobian–free implementation of Newton's method, where the action of the Jacobian matrix on a vector is approximated by a first order Taylor series expansion. Preconditioned generalized minimal residual (PGMRES) is the Krylov method used to solve the linear systems that come from the iterations of Newton's method. The preconditioner in this solution method is constructed using a physics-based divide and conquer approach, often referred to as operator splitting. This solution procedure inverts the scalar elliptic systems that make up the preconditioner using simple multigrid methods. The preconditioner also addresses the strong coupling between equations with local 2×2 block solves. The intra-cell coupling is applied after the inter-cell coupling has already been addressed by the elliptic solves. Results are presented using this solution procedure that demonstrate its efficiency while incurring minimal memory requirements.  相似文献

A new numerical algorithm is developed for the solution of time-dependent differential equations of diffusion type. It allows for an accurate and efficient treatment of multidimensional problems with variable coefficients, nonlinearities, and general boundary conditions. For space discretization we use the multiwavelet bases introduced by Alpert (1993,SIAM J. Math. Anal.24, 246–262), and then applied to the representation of differential operators and functions of operators presented by Alpert, Beylkin, and Vozovoi (Representation of operators in the multiwavelet basis, in preparation). An important advantage of multiwavelet basis functions is the fact that they are supported only on non-overlapping subdomains. Thus multiwavelet bases are attractive for solving problems in finite (non periodic) domains. Boundary conditions are imposed with a penalty technique of Hesthaven and Gottlieb (1996,SIAM J. Sci. Comput., 579–612) which can be used to impose rather general boundary conditions. The penalty approach was extended to a procedure for ensuring the continuity of the solution and its first derivative across interior boundaries between neighboring subdomains while time stepping the solution of a time dependent problem. This penalty procedure on the interfaces allows for a simplification and sparsification of the representation of differential operators by discarding the elements responsible for interactions between neighboring subdomains. Consequently the matrices representing the differential operators (on the finest scale) have block-diagonal structure. For a fixed order of multiwavelets (i.e., a fixed number of vanishing moments) the computational complexity of the present algorithm is proportional to the number of subdomains. The time discretization method of Beylkin, Keiser, and Vozovoi (1998, PAM Report 347) is used in view of its favorable stability properties. Numerical results are presented for evolution equations with variable coefficients in one and two dimensions.  相似文献

A two-dimensional (2D) double-quantum (DQ) experiment under rotational resonance (R(2)) conditions is introduced for evaluating dipolar couplings in rotating solids. The contributions from the R(2)-recoupled dipolar interaction and the J coupling can be conveniently separated in the resulting 2D R(2)-DQ spectrum, so that the unknown dipolar coupling can readily be extracted, provided that the values of the involved J coupling constants are known. Since the measured parameters are integral intensity ratios between suitably chosen absorption peaks in the 2D spectrum, the proposed method is characterized by a reduced sensitivity to relaxation parameters. The effect of rotor-modulated terms, including chemical shift anisotropy, is efficiently averaged out by synchronizing the excitation/reconversion time with the rotor period. All of these features are demonstrated theoretically by the example of two model systems, namely, isolated spin-pairs and a three-spin system. The results of the theoretical models are applied to both (13)C and (1)H nuclei to extract dipolar couplings in uniformly (13)C labeled L-alanine and a crosslinked natural rubber.  相似文献

We present a new version of the fast multipole method (FMM) for screened Coulomb interactions in three dimensions. Existing schemes can compute such interactions in O(N) time, where N denotes the number of particles. The constant implicit in the O(N) notation, however, is dominated by the expense of translating far-field spherical harmonic expansions to local ones. For each box in the FMM data structure, this requires 189p4 operations per box, where p is the order of the expansions used. The new formulation relies on an expansion in evanescent plane waves, with which the amount of work can be reduced to 40p2+6p3 operations per box.  相似文献

In many realistic fluid-dynamical simulations the specification of the boundary conditions, the error sources, and the number of time steps to reach a steady state are important practical considerations. In this paper we study these issues in the case of the lattice-BGK model. The objective is to present a comprehensive overview of some pitfalls and shortcomings of the lattice-BGK method and to introduce some new ideas useful in practical simulations. We begin with an evaluation of the widely used bounce-back boundary condition in staircase geometries by simulating flow in an inclined tube. It is shown that the bounce-back scheme is first-order accurate in space when the location of the non-slip wall is assumed to be at the boundary nodes. Moreover, for a specific inclination angle of 45 degrees, the scheme is found to be second-order accurate when the location of the non-slip velocity is fitted halfway between the last fluid nodes and the first solid nodes. The error as a function of the relaxation parameter is in that case qualitatively similar to that of flat walls. Next, a comparison of simulations of fluid flow by means of pressure boundaries and by means of body force is presented. A good agreement between these two boundary conditions has been found in the creeping-flow regime. For higher Reynolds numbers differences have been found that are probably caused by problems associated with the pressure boundaries. Furthermore, two widely used 3D models, namelyD3Q15andD3Q19, are analysed. It is shown that theD3Q15model may induce artificial checkerboard invariants due to the connectivity of the lattice. Finally, a new iterative method, which significantly reduces the saturation time, is presented and validated on different benchmark problems.  相似文献

The effects of dissolved molecular oxygen upon amide proton ((1)H(N)) longitudinal and transverse relaxation rates and chemical shifts were studied for a small protein domain, the second type 2 module of fibronectin ((2)F2)-isotopically enriched to 99% (2)H, 98% (15)N. Longitudinal relaxation rate enhancements, R(O(2))((1)H(N)), of individual backbone (1)H(N) nuclei varied up to 14 fold between a degassed and oxygenated (1 bar) solution, indicating that the oxygen distribution within the protein is inhomogeneous. On average, smaller relaxation rate enhancements were observed for (1)H(N) nuclei associated with the core of the protein compared to (1)H(N) nuclei closer to the surface, suggesting restricted oxygen accessibility to some regions. In agreement with an O(2)-(1)H(N) hyperfine interaction in the extreme narrowing limit, the (1)H(N) transverse relaxation rates showed no significant change, up to an oxygen pressure of 9.5 bar (the maximum pressure used in this study). For most (1)H(N) resonances, small deltadelta(O(2))((1)H(N)) hyperfine chemical shifts could be detected between oxygen pressures of 1 bar and 9.5 bar.  相似文献
