Polarized X-ray absorption study of Bi2Sr2CuO6 and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

Polarization dependent X-ray absorption measurements on single crystal Bi₂Sr₂CuO₆ (T _c =9 K) and Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O₈ (T _c =80 K) with one and two CuO₂ layers, respectively, show no energy shift of the Cu 2p main peak, and no relation between the amount of 3d(m=0, ±1) character and the critical temperatureT _c . At grazing incidence a structure in Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O₈ is found at 937 eV, which can be ascribed to a composite state of Cu 3d(z ²), Cu 4s ando–2p(z).     

Spin correlations in amorphous Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox

Zero and longitudinal field SR has been used to probe the magnetic state of amorphous Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_x prepared by rapid quenching from the melt. The results suggest quasi-static spin correlations between extremely dilute Cu²⁺ ions.Work performed while at the J J Thomson Physical Laboratory, University of Reading.     

Fermi surface of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

We study the Fermi surface of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with a momentum resolution of approximately 0.01 of the Brillouin zone. We show that, contrary to recent suggestions, the ARPES derived Fermi surface is a large hole barrel centered at (pi,pi), independent of the incident photon energy. We caution that the photon energy and k dependence of the matrix elements, if not properly accounted for, can lead to misinterpretation of ARPES intensities.     

Bi2Sr2Ca1-xPrxCu2Oy和Bi2Sr2Ca1-xYxCu2Oy系列单晶样品输运性质的对照研究

Characteristic fields of a Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy crystal

The field dependences of the transverse resistance of a Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_y (BSCCO) layered superconducting single crystal with T _c0≥92 K are studied in a perpendicular (H⊥(ab)) pulsed magnetic field up to 50 T in a wide temperature range, 4.2–300 K. The temperature dependences of the characteristic fields identified with the “irreversibility curve” and the field corresponding to the nucleation of the superconducting phase are determined. The results obtained for the latter field are compared with the theoretical dependences.     

Transverse Seebeck effect in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8

2 Cu₃O₇ has been observed in “off-c-axis” grown Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O₈ films. The films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition from Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O₈ targets and grown with a tilt angle of 10 degrees between the film c-axis and the film surface on off-axis cut SrTiO₃ substrates. From the thermoelectric response upon laser irradiation the anisotropy of the thermopower is estimated. Received: 15 April 1996/ Accepted:19 November 1996     

Study of the modulated structure of Bi2Sr2CaFe2Ox

The ceramics and single crystals of the Bi₂Sr₂CaFe₂O_x compound were synthesized. The X-ray diffraction data showed orthorhombic symmetry. The lattice parameters are equal toa=5.464 Å,b=5.453 Å,c=31.313 Å. The crystal structure is described by the primitive Bravais lattice with the possible space groups Pbmm. Pbm2 and Pb2₁m. The obtained X-ray patterns show the presence the incommensurate structural modulation with the following parameters: the modulation vector lies in the (100)-plane, the value of the wave-vector componentq _b=0.22(3). The comparison of the obtained results with data for Fe-doped Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_x and Bi₂Sr₃Fe₂O_x are presented. No magnetic peculiarities of the compound were found. Mssbauer measurements of the ceramic samples indicate the presence mainly of Fe³⁺ oxidation state and Fe⁴⁺ (about 20%). The decrease of the quadrupole-splitting values for 2212Fe in comparison with Fe-doped 2212Cu was revealed that may be connected with higher symmetry of the local environment of Fe atoms in 2212Fe.
