In this paper, we are concerned with the problem of boundedness in the constrained global maximization of a convex function. In particular, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for boundedness of a feasible region defined by reverse convex constraints and we establish sufficient and necessary conditions for existence of an upper bound for a convex objective function defined over the system of concave inequality constraints. Symplectic self-adjointness of Hamiltonian operator matrices is studied, which is important to symplectic elasticity and optimal control. For the cases of diagonal domain and off-diagonal domain, necessary and sufficient conditions are shown. The proofs use Frobenius-Schur factorizations of unbounded operator matrices.Under additional assumptions, sufficient conditions based on perturbation method are obtained. We consider the three species predator-prey model with the same intrinsic growth rates, where species 3 feeds on species 2, species 2 feeds on species 1, species 1 feeds on species 3. An open question raised by Nishan Krikorian is answered: We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for all the orbits to be unbounded. We also obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the positive equilibrium to be globally stable. It is shown that there exists a family of neutrally stable periodic orbits, in which we extend Darboux method to three-species models for the first time.  相似文献

We consider uniformly strongly elliptic systems of the second order with bounded coefficients. First, sufficient conditions for the invariance of convex bodies are obtained for linear systems without zero order term on bounded domains and quasilinear systems of special form on bounded domains and on a class of unbounded domains. These conditions are formulated in algebraic form. They describe relation between the geometry of the invariant convex body and the coefficients of the system. Next, necessary conditions, which are also sufficient, for the invariance of some convex bodies are found for elliptic homogeneous systems with constant coefficients in a half-space. The necessary conditions are derived by using a criterion on the invariance of convex bodies for normalized matrix-valued integral transforms also obtained in the paper. In contrast with the previous studies of invariant sets for elliptic systems, no a priori restrictions on the coefficient matrices are imposed.  相似文献

In this paper we are concerned with the problem of unboundedness and existence of an optimal solution in reverse convex and concave integer optimization problems. In particular, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of an upper bound for a convex objective function defined over the feasible region contained in ${\mathbb{Z}^n}$ . The conditions for boundedness are provided in a form of an implementable algorithm, showing that for the considered class of functions, the integer programming problem is unbounded if and only if the associated continuous problem is unbounded. We also address the problem of boundedness in the global optimization problem of maximizing a convex function over a set of integers contained in a convex and unbounded region. It is shown in the paper that in both types of integer programming problems, the objective function is either unbounded from above, or it attains its maximum at a feasible integer point.  相似文献

Some new characterizations of nonnegative Hamiltonian operator matrices are given. Several necessary and sufficient conditions for an unbounded nonnegative Hamiltonian operator to be invertible are obtained, so that the main results in the previously published papers are corollaries of the new theorems. Using three different notions of the generalized principal eigenvalue of linear second‐order elliptic operators in unbounded domains, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the validity of the maximum principle, as well as for the existence of positive eigenfunctions for the Dirichlet problem. We introduce the notion of (joint) formal normality for a collection of unbounded linear operators on a separable Hilbert space H which is, in some sense, a natural generalization of the notion of formal normality for a single operator. We give some relations between this new notion and (joint) subnormality and hyponormality. We study viscosity solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations that arise in optimal control problems with unbounded controls and discontinuous Lagrangian. In our assumptions, the comparison principle will not hold, in general. We prove optimality principles that extend the scope of the results of [23] under very general assumptions, allowing unbounded controls. In particular, our results apply to calculus of variations problems under Tonelli type coercivity conditions. Optimality principles can be applied to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for uniqueness in boundary value problems, and to characterize minimal and maximal solutions when uniqueness fails. We give examples of applications of our results in this direction.  相似文献

The concept of analytically invariant subspace, in the framework of spectral resolvents, is extended to unbounded closed operators. One obtains necessary and sufficient conditions for a spectral resolvent to be analytically invariant. Cobalanced extensions of torsion-free modules by torsion modules over domains are investigated. As in the case of Abelian Groups, these sequences will split if and only if the torsion-free module is a pure submodule of a vector module. Unlike this case, even the torsion-free modules of finite rank need not be locally completely decomposable. For 1-dimensional Noetherian domains, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for that to be true.  相似文献
