Poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and PBS-based ionomers (PBSi) with 1.0 and 3.0 mol% sodium sulfonate ionic group were synthesized and blended with poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHB-HHx) via direct melt compounding. FT-IR analysis demonstrated that the sodium metal ion–carbonyl interaction between PHB-HHx and PBS ionomer increased in strength with the ionic group concentration. Both non-isothermal and isothermal analyses showed the crystallization rates of PHB-HHx to decrease as the strength of the sodium metal ion–carbonyl interaction increased. However, the constant value obtained for the Avrami exponent indicated that the presence of PBS ionomer did not interfere in any way with the nucleation mechanism or the geometry of the crystal growth of PHB-HHx. DMTA analysis confirmed that PBS ionomer reduced the crystallinity of PHB-HHx, and this phenomenon increased in proportion to the ionic group content. As the ionic group concentration increased, the sodium metal–carbonyl interaction between PHB-HHx and PBS ionomer became much stronger, resulting in the improvement of the miscibility for the blend. The interaction parameter obtained by analyzing the equilibrium melting temperature was negative for all bend systems, with the ionomer having ionic group content, displaying a more negative value. Based on the Lauritzen–Hoffman secondary nucleation theory, the regime of the PHB-HHx/PBS ionomer blend remained unchanged throughout the crystallization process. In addition, both the nucleation constant and surface free energy were found to decrease as both ionomer content and ionic group concentration increased.  相似文献

The crystallization behavior of a new sequential polyester constituted by glycolic acid and 4‐hydroxybutyric acid has been studied under nonisothermal conditions. Nonisothermal melt crystallization has been followed by means of hot‐stage optical microscopy (HSOM), with experiments performed at different cooling rates. Two crystallization regimes have been found, which is in good agreement with previous isothermal studies and with the different spherulitic morphologies that were observed. The kinetics of both glass and melt crystallizations has also been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and considering the typical Avrami, Ozawa, and Cazé analyses. Only the last gave Avrami exponents, which were in good agreement with those measured under isothermal conditions, suggesting a spherulitic growth with a predetermined nucleation. Isoconversional data of melt and glass nonisothermal crystallizations have been combined to obtain the Hoffman and Lauritzen parameters. Results again indicate the existence of two crystallization regimes with nucleation constants close to those deduced from isothermal DSC experiments. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Kinetics of nonisothermal crystallization of poly(β-hydroxybutyrate) from melt and glassy states were performed by differential scanning calorimetry under various heating and cooling rates. Several different analysis methods were used to describe the process of nonisothermal crystallization. The results showed that both Avrami treatment and a new method developed by combining the Avrami equation and Ozawa equation could describe this system very well. However, Ozawa analysis failed. By using an evaluation method, proposed by Kissinger, activation energies have been evaluated to be 92.6 kJ/mol and 64.6 kJ/mol for crystallization from the glassy and melt state, respectively. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The crystallization kinetics of biodegradable poly(butylene succinate‐co‐adipate) (PBS/A) copolyester was investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM), respectively. The Avrami and Ozawa equations were used to analyze the isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics, respectively. By using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), PBS/A was identified to have the same crystal structure with that of PBS. The spherulitic growth rates of PBS/A measured in isothermal conditions are very well comparable with those measured by nonisothermal procedures (cooling rates ranged from 0.5 to 15 °C/min). The kinetic data were examined with the Hoffman–Lauritzen nucleation theory. The observed spherulites of PBS/A with different shapes and textures strongly depend on the crystallization temperatures. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article investigated the melting behaviors, crystallization kinetics, and spherulitic morphologies of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and its copolyester (PBSR) modified with rosin maleopimaric acid anhydride, using wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and polarized optical microscope. Subsequent DSC scans of isothermally crystallized PBS and PBSR exhibited two melting endotherms, respectively, which was due to the melt‐recrystallization process occurring during the DSC scans. The equilibrium melting point of PBSR (125.9 °C) was lower than that of PBS (139 °C). The commonly used Avrami equation was used to describe the isothermal crystallization kinetics. For nonisothermal crystallization studies, the model combining Avrami equation and Ozawa equation was employed. The result showed a consistent trend in the crystallization process. The crystallization rate was decreased, the perfection of crystals was decreased, the recrystallization was reduced, and the spherulitic morphologies were changed when the huge hydrogenated phenanthrene ring was added into the chain of PBS. The activation energy (ΔE) for the isothermal crystallization process determined by Arrhenius method was 255.9 kJ/mol for PBS and 345.7 kJ/mol for PBSR. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) and layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanocomposites were prepared via melt blending in a twin-screw extruder. The morphology and dispersion of LDH nanoparticles within PBS matrix were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which showed that LDH nanoparticles were found to be well distributed at the nanometer level. The nonisothermal crystallization behavior of nanocomposites was extensively studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique at various cooling rates. The crystallization rate of PBS was accelerated by the addition of LDH due to its heterogeneous nucleation effect; however, the crystallization mechanism and crystal structure of PBS remained almost unchanged. In kinetics analysis of nonisothermal crystallization, the Ozawa approach failed to describe the crystallization behavior of PBS/LDH nanocomposites, whereas both the modified Avrami model and the Mo method well represented the crystallization behavior of nanocomposites. The effective activation energy was estimated as a function of the relative degree of crystallinity using the isoconversional analysis. The subsequent melting behavior of PBS and PBS/LDH nanocomposites was observed to be dependent on the cooling rate. The POM showed that the small and less perfect crystals were formed in nanocomposites.  相似文献

The crystallization kinetics of polypropylene and poly (butyl methacrylate-co-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) blend was investigated with differential scanning calorimetry. The isothermal crystallization analysis based on the Avrami theory indicated a heterogeneous nucleating effect from the copolymer. A systematic study of the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics was undertaken using the Avrami equation and its later modifications by Ozawa, Mo, and Zhang. The results demonstrated that the linear relationship failed in the different cooling rates because the Avrami method did not take into account that the crystallization temperature was lowered continuously. The Ozawa and Mo methods could be successful in describing the overall nonisothermal process of polypropylene and the blend. In addition, the nonisothermal crystallization energy values were estimated by the Kissinger and Freidman models. There are two mutually opposite effects on the crystallization behavior of the blend: nucleation ability and growth retardation.  相似文献

The influence of ionic interaction on the melt-crystallization behavior of the ethylene ionomer was studied using modulated DSC (MDSCTM), wide angle X-ray scattering (XRD) and hot stage microscopy. The kinetics of the crystallization process of the ionomer was evaluated using isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (iso-DSC). Wide-angle X-ray scattering was used to examine the d spacing of poly(ethylene) part. The crystallinity of the poly(ethylene) part of ionomer measured from XRD is found to be 24%, which is comparable to that obtained from MDSCTM. Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) results show that the clusters and multiplets exist in the ionomer, and the cluster is about 127Ĺ. The kinetics of crystallization process obtained using Avrami equation shows that the crystallization process is fundamentally similar to poly(ethylene) as it goes through nucleation and propagation stages of the crystals. However, the morphology of the crystal appears to be different and influenced by clusters (platelike and/or needle-shaped) as evident from Avrami constant. This is different from the poly(ethylene) (which is spherulitic in nature) due to polar cluster and hydrophobic PE melt interaction. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry for the nylon 6/graphene composites prepared by in situ polymerization. The Avrami theory modified by Jeziorny, Ozawa equation, and Mo equation was used to describe the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics. The analysis based on the Avrami theory modified by Jeziorny shows that, at lower cooling rates (at 5, 10, and 20 K/min), the nylon 6/graphene composites have lower crystallization rate than pure nylon 6. However, at higher cooling rates (at 40 K/min), the nylon 6/graphene composites have higher crystallization rate than pure nylon 6. The values of Avrami exponent m and the cooling crystallization function F(T) from Ozawa plots indicate that the mode of the nucleation and growth at initial stage of the nonisothermal crystallization may be as follows: two‐dimensional (2D), then one‐dimensional (1D) for all samples at 5–10 °C/min; three‐dimensional (3D) or complicated than 3D, then 2D and 1D at 10–20 and 20–40 °C/min. The good linearity of the Mo plots indicated that the combined approach could successfully describe the crystallization processes of the nylon 6 and nylon 6/graphene composites. The activation energies (ΔE) of the nylon 6/graphene composites, determined by Kissinger method, were lower than those of pure nylon 6. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A nucleation rate function is proposed for use in analyzing the overall crystallization kinetics of polymers. This function allows for the possibility that the nucleation rate varies substantially during the crystallization. This feature is particularly useful in analyzing nonisothermal crystallization, but it can be used to analyze isothermal crystallization as well. The nucleation rate function was used in the derivation of a modified transformation kinetics equation of the Avrami type. The modified Avrami equation was found to be suitable for kinetics analysis for the data obtained from nonisothermal crystallization at rapid cooling rates. Kinetics parameters used to describe nonisothermal crystallization under rapid cooling rates are presented and discussed. These include crystallization induction time, plateau (crystallization) temperature, crystallization half-time, crystallization rate constant, Avrami index, and newly defined quantities called nucleation index, geometric index, and nucleation rate constant. The procedure used to obtain the nucleation rate constant and nucleation index for the nucleation rate function is described and illustrated by application to the analysis of the crystallization kinetics of polypropylene. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polyamide 6 (PA6)/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared via melt intercalation. The structure, mechanical properties, and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PA6/MMT nanocomposites were investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), tensile and impact tests, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Before melt compounding, MMT was treated with an organic surfactant agent. XRD traces showed that PA6 crystallizes exclusively in γ‐crystalline structure within the nanocomposites. Tensile measurements showed that the MMT additions are beneficial in improving the strength and the stiffness of PA6, at the expense of tensile ductility. Impact tests revealed that the impact strength of PA6/MMT nanocomposites tended to decrease with increasing MMT content. The nonisothermal crystallization DSC data were analyzed by Avrami, Ozawa, modified Avrami‐Ozawa, and Nedkov methods. The validity of these empirical equations on the nonisothermal crystallization process of PA6/MMT nanocomposites is discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The dynamic mechanical properties and morphology of poly(styrene‐co?3‐sulfopropyl sodium‐methacrylate) SSPMANa ionomers were investigated. It was found the increasing rate of ionic moduli of the SSPMANa ionomer was very low, and the cluster Tg of the ionomers remained more or less constant with increasing ion content. A well‐developed SAXS peak was seen for low ion content SSPMANa ionomers and the peak position changed slightly with ion content. Thus, it was suggested that the presence of the alkyl ester side chains made the ion pairs form multiplets more easily at their prevalent distances, and the small‐agglomerated multiplets were dispersed in the polymer matrix relatively evenly. The interpretation of ionic moduli using a number of theories implied that the multiplets and clusters acted as effective crosslinks and filler particles, respectively, and the size and shape of the clusters were irregular. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The confined crystallization behavior, melting behavior, and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of the poly(ethylene glycol) block (PEG) in poly(L ‐lactide)–poly(ethylene glycol) (PLLA–PEG) diblock copolymers were investigated with wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. The analysis showed that the nonisothermal crystallization behavior changed from fitting the Ozawa equation and the Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny to deviating from them with the molecular weight of the poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) block increasing. This resulted from the gradual strengthening of the confined effect, which was imposed by the crystallization of the PLLA block. The nucleation mechanism of the PEG block of PLLA15000–PEG5000 at a larger degree of supercooling was different from that of PLLA2500–PEG5000, PLLA5000–PEG5000, and PEG5000 (the numbers after PEG and PLLA denote the molecular weights of the PEG and PLLA blocks, respectively). They were homogeneous nucleation and heterogeneous nucleation, respectively. The PLLA block bonded chemically with the PEG block and increased the crystallization activation energy, but it provided nucleating sites for the crystallization of the PEG block, and the crystallization rate rose when it was heterogeneous nucleation. The number of melting peaks was three and one for the PEG homopolymer and the PEG block of the diblock copolymers, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nonisothermal melt crystallization behavior of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) was investigated using the DSC technique. PTT peak exothermic crystallization temperature was found to move to lower temperatures as the cooling rate was increased. The modified Avrami equation exponent, n, was 4 when the cooling rates were between 5 and 15 °C/min, indicating a thermal nucleation and a three-dimensional spherical growth mechanism. When the cooling rate was increased to 25 °C/min, n gradually decreased to near 3, implying the nucleation mechanism changed to an athermal mode. PTT nonisothermal crystallization behavior could also be analyzed using the Ozawa equation and the combined equations of Ozawa and Avrami with very good fit of the data.PTT spherulite morphologies and the sign of the birefringence depended strongly on the spherulite's growth temperature. When the growth temperature was decreased from 222 to 170 °C, the spherulite changed from a saturation-type dendritic morphology to one with a colorful banded texture; the sign of the birefringence also changed in the following order: from a weakly positive spherulite → mixed spherulite → weakly negative spherulite → negative spherulite → positive spherulite → negative spherulite → positive spherulite.  相似文献

The ionomer concept was introduced to the field of flame‐retardant polyesters for the first time. The ionic monomer, sodium salt of 2‐hydroxyethyl 3‐(phenylphosphinyl)propionate (SHPPP), was synthesized by selective esterification of 3‐(hydroxyphenylphosphinyl)propionic acid with ethylene glycol, followed by neutralization with sodium carbonate anhydrous. SHPPP was characterized with 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X‐Ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Poly(ethylene terephthalate)‐based ionomers containing terminal units derived from this ionic monomer, were synthesized by melt polycondensation. The chemical structure of the ionomers was characterized with 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The effects of SHPPP on the thermal properties and melting behaviors of the ionomers were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The flammability of the ionomers was characterized by the limiting oxygen index test. The test results show that the ionomers themselves possess both excellent flame retardancy and antidripping properties. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study describes the morphology and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/isotactic polypropylene (iPP) in situ micro‐fiber‐reinforced blends (MRB) obtained via slit‐extrusion, hot‐stretching quenching. For comparison purposes, neat PP and PET/PP common blends are also included. Morphological observation indicated that the well‐defined microfibers are in situ generated by the slit‐extrusion, hot‐stretching quenching process. Neat iPP and PET/iPP common blends showed the normal spherulite morphology, whereas the PET/iPP microfibrillar blend had typical transcrystallites at 1 wt % PET concentration. The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of three samples were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Applying the theories proposed by Jeziorny, Ozawa, and Liu to analyze the crystallization kinetics of neat PP and PET/PP common and microfibrillar blends, agreement was found between our experimental results and Liu's prediction. The increases of crystallization temperature and crystallization rate during the nonisothermal crystallization process indicated that PET in situ microfibers have significant nucleation ability for the crystallization of a PP matrix phase. The crystallization peaks in the DSC curves of the three materials examined widened and shifted to lower temperature when the cooling rate was increased. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of polyester-based ionomers containing dimethyl 5-sulfoisophthalate sodium salt (DMSI) with up to 5 mol-% diacid units was synthesized by two-step polycondensation. Furthermore a polylactic acid (PLA) was modified by introducing poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) ionomers with different ion groups, such as Na, Li, and Zn, using the melt blending method. This review examines the effect of the ionic group on the dynamic mechanical properties, melt rheology, crystallization behavior, degradation behavior, and biocompatibility with human dermal cells, as well as the nucleating effect of poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) ionomer in PLA.  相似文献

The article deals with the melting and nonisothermal crystallization behavior of neat poly (phenylene sulphide) (PPS) and its composites with a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (TLCP)—Vectra A950, prepared by melt mixing and probed by differential scanning calorimetry. The various macrokinetic models namely, the Ozawa, the modified Avrami, the Tobin, and the Mo models were applied to describe the crystallization kinetics under nonisothermal conditions. The kinetic crystallizabilty of PPS/TLCP composites calculated using the approach of Ziabicki varies depending on these two composite composition‐induced effects. Similarly Mo model predicts that to obtain a higher degree of crystallizabilty for PPS/TLCP composites, a higher cooling rate should be used. The effective energy barrier based on the differential isoconversional method of Friedman is found to be an increasing function of relative degree of melt conversion. The effect is explained in terms of nucleation theory proposed by Wunderlich to crystallization of polymers. The Lauritzen–Hoffman parameters are estimated using G = 1/t0.5 effective activation energy equation proposed by Vyazovkin and Sbirrazzuoli. The Kg values estimated from latter equations are more comparable with values obtained using isothermal crystallization data than 1/t0.5 method. Furthermore, the kinetic analysis using this equation shows a regime transition from regime II to regime III for 100/00, 90/10, 80/20 PPS/TLCP composites, basically attributed to reduced mobility of PPS chains in composites. This regime II to III transition is accompanied by a morphological transition from defective spherulitic sheaf‐like structures to ordered sheaf‐like structures. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate the isothermal crystallization, subsequent melting behavior, and nonisothermal crystallization of syndiotactic 1,2‐polybutadiene (st‐1,2‐PB) produced with an iron‐based catalyst system. The isothermal crystallization of two fractions was analyzed according to the Avrami equation. The morphology of the crystallite was observed with polarized optical microscopy. Double melting peaks were observed for the samples isothermally crystallized at 125–155 °C. The low‐temperature melting peak, which appeared approximately 5 °C above the crystallization temperature, was attributed to the melting of imperfect crystals formed by the less stereoregular fraction. The high‐temperature melting peak was associated with the melting of perfect crystals formed by the stereoregular fraction. With the Hoffman–Weeks approach, the value of the equilibrium melting temperature was derived. During the nonisothermal crystallization, the Ozawa method was limited in obtaining the kinetic parameters of st‐1,2‐PB. A new method that combined the Ozawa method and the Avrami method was employed to analyze the nonisothermal crystallization of st‐1,2‐PB. The activation energies of crystallization under nonisothermal conditions were calculated. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 43: 553–561, 2005  相似文献
