Beginning with the integral equation for the source function, the solutions for the source function, flux and intensity at the boundary of a two-dimensional, isotropically scattering cylindrical medium are found. The incident radiation is collimated and normal to the surface of the medium and depends only on the radial coordinate. For a Bessel function boundary condition, separation of variables is used to reduce the source function integral equation to a one-dimensional equation. The resulting integral equation is shown to be the same as that for the two-dimensional planar case. Solutions for other boundary conditions are then shown to be superpositions of the Bessel function solution. Numerical results are presented for a Gaussian distribution of incident radiation which closely models a laser beam. These multiple scattering results are compared to the single scattering approximation. Also, the solution for a strongly anisotropic phase function which is made up of a spike in the forward direction superimposed on an otherwise isotropic phase function is expressed in terms of the isotropic results.  相似文献

Gaussian beams provide a useful insonifying field for surface or interface scattering problems such as encountered in electromagnetics, acoustics and seismology. Gaussian beams have these advantages: (i) They give a finite size for the scattering region on the interface. (ii) The incident energy is restricted to a small range of grazing angles. (iii) They do not have side lobes. (iv) They have a convenient mathematical expression. The major disadvantages are: (i) Insonification of an interface is nonuniform. The scattered field will depend on the location of the scatterers within the beam. (ii) The beams spread, so that propagation becomes an integral component of the scattering problem. A standard beam parameterization is proposed which keeps propagation effects uniform among various models so that the effects of scattering only can be compared. In continuous wave problems, for a given angle of incidence and incident amplitude threshold, there will be an optimum Gaussian beam which keeps the insonified area as small as possible. For numerical solutions of pulse beams, these standard parameters provide an estimate of the smallest truncated domain necessary for a physically meaningful result.  相似文献

Exact integral equations are derived describing the source function and radiative flux in a two-dimensional, radially infinite cylindrical medium which scatters anisotropically. The problem is two-dimensional and cylindrical because of axisymmetric loading. Radially varying collimated radiation is incident normal to the upper surface while the lower boundary has no radiation incident upon it. The scattering phase function is represented by a spike in the forward direction plus a series of Legendre polynomials. The two-dimensional integral equations are reduced to a one-dimensional form by separating variables for the case when the radial variation of the incident radiation is a Bessel function. The one-dimensional form consists of a system of linear, singular Fredholm integral equations of second kind. Other more complex boundary conditions are shown to be solvable by a superposition of this basic Bessel function case. Diffusely incident radiation is also considered.  相似文献

A general model is developed to characterize the effect of an ultrasonic measurement system on the experimental determination of ultrasonic scattering as a function of angle and frequency. The model includes arbitrary emitter beams and detector apertures as angular spectra of plane waves. Arbitrary emitted pulses and detector time gates are incorporated through frequency spectra of temporal harmonics. A transformation of variables is employed to express the spectrum of the measured pressure as a product in wave space of a system function and the Fourier transform of the medium variations. The mean-square value of the measured pressure spectrum is similarly expressed as a product of the squared magnitude of the system function and the power spectrum of the medium variations. The measured quantities are shown to become scaled values of intrinsic scattering characteristics when the system function weight is concentrated relative to the medium characteristics in wave space. The assumption of an indefinitely long detector gate is used to represent the system function as a product in which one factor is a beam function dependent on spatial frequency and the other factors are dependent on temporal frequency. Beam-function calculations as well as calculations of second moments and overall beam weight are made for identical Gaussian-shaped emitter and detector apertures to illustrate the blurring and weighting effects of measurement system beam patterns as a function of scattering angle. The moment calculations are shown to identify circumstances when the medium variation function can be factored out from under the integral and the measurement represented as a simple product of the medium properties and a measurement system weight. The results may be used to design scattering experiments in which degradations due to system effects are within acceptable limits.  相似文献

A two-dimensional problem of scattering of pulsed beams having arbitrary time and spatial form on a plane surface of a lossy dielectric halfspace is solved. A pulsed beam has been modeled by letting an E- or H-polarized plane pulse with homogeneous front pass through a space filter. The reflected pulse is found using an expansion of the incident pulsed beam over time-harmonic plane waves.  相似文献

Three-dimensional vector radiative transfer in a semi-infinite medium exposed to spatially varying, polarized radiation is studied. The problem is to determine the generalized reflection matrix for a multiple scattering medium characterized by a 4×4 scattering matrix. A double integral transform is used to convert the three-dimensional vector radiative transfer equation to a one-dimensional form, and a modified Ambarzumian's method is then applied to derive a nonlinear integral equation for the generalized reflection matrix. The spatially varying backscattered radiation for an arbitrarily polarized incident beam can be found from the generalized reflection matrix. For Rayleigh scattering and normal incidence and emergence, the generalized reflection matrix is shown to have five non-zero elements. Benchmark results for these five elements are presented and compared to asymptotic results. When the incident radiation is polarized, the vector approach used in this study correctly predicts three-dimensional behavior, while the scalar approach does not. When the incident radiation is unpolarized, both the vector and scalar approaches predict a two-dimensional distribution of the intensity, but the error in the scalar prediction can be as high as 20%.  相似文献

Using a crossed electron-molecular beam experiment, featuring a skimmed nozzle beam with pyrolytic radical production, absolute elastic cross sections for electron scattering from the CF2 molecule have been measured. A new technique for placing measured cross sections on an absolute scale is used for molecular beams produced as skimmed supersonic jets. Absolute differential cross sections for CF2 are reported for incident electron energies of 30-50 eV and over an angular range of 20-135 deg. Integral cross sections are subsequently derived from those data. The present data are compared to new theoretical predictions for the differential and integral scattering cross sections, as calculated with the Schwinger multichannel variational method using the static-exchange and static-exchange plus polarization approximations.  相似文献

Equations for (depolarized) intensity auto-correlation functions including second order scattering contributions are derived. The equations obtained are quite similar to those for static light scattering1). The geometry of the scattering system plays an important role here.An iterative procedure to correct correlation functions for double scattering is presented.Experiments on colloidal solutions containing latex and silica particles are performed, testing the theory and the iterative correction procedure for double scattering. We use cylindrical cuvettes with cylindrical incident and detected beams of radiation. The agreement between experiment and theory is found to be quite good, yielding a routine correction procedure for double scattering.  相似文献

A modification of Ambarzumian's method is used to develop the integro-differential equations for the source function, flux, and intensity at the boundary of a two-dimensional, semi-infinite cylindrical medium with second order Legendre phase function scattering. The incident radiation is collimated, normal to the top surface, and is dependent only on the radial coordinate. Boundary conditions which vary as a Bessel function and as a Gaussian distribution are investigated. The Gaussian distribution approximates a laser beam. Numerical results are presented in graphical and tabular forms for a Rayleigh scattering medium. The results are compared with those of isotropic scattering.

The particular problem of wave scattering at low grazing angles is of great interest because of its importance for the long-distance propagation of radio waves along the Earth's surface, radar observation of near surface objects, as well as solving many other fundamental and applied problems of remote sensing. One of the main questions is: how do the scattering amplitude and specific cross section behave for extremely small grazing angles? We consider the process of wave scattering by a statistically rough surface with the Neumann boundary condition. This model corresponds to sound scattering from a perfectly 'hard' surface (for example, the interface between air and the sea surface) or 'vertically' polarized electromagnetic waves scattered by a perfectly conducting one-dimensional (i.e. cylindrical) surface when the magnetic field vector is directed along the generating line of this cylindrical surface. We assume that the surface roughness is sufficiently small (in the sense of the Rayleigh parameter) and the surface is rigorously statistically homogeneous and therefore, infinite. We confine ourselves only to the first-order approximation of small perturbation theory and therefore consider every act of wave scattering in the Born approximation when the Bragg scattering process takes place. Only one resonant Fourier component of surface roughness is responsible for the scattering in a given direction. However, we take into account the attenuation of incident and scattered waves due to the multiple scattering processes on the path 'before' and 'after' a scattering event in a given direction. Also we consider every one of these multiple scattering events only in the Born approximation. The main result we have obtained is that for small grazing angles the scattering cross section of the diffuse component decreases as the second power of the grazing angles with respect to the incident and scattered directions, and as the fourth power of the grazing angle for the backscattering (radar) situation. Generalizing our results from plane-wave scattering to finite beams allows us to obtain the criterion on the beamwidth. For sufficiently narrow beams the multiple scattering processes do not play any role because of a short 'interaction path', and only single Bragg scattering determines the scattering amplitude (which does not tend to zero for small grazing angles). However, for sufficiently wide beams the result obtained for infinite plane waves becomes valid: due to the above-mentioned multiple scattering processes, the scattering amplitude tends to zero for small grazing angles. Consequently, the behaviour of the scattering cross section for small grazing angles depends on the radiation pattern width of the transmitting and receiving antennae: for sufficiently wide beams the scattering cross section decreases to zero at small grazing angles, but for narrow beams it tends to the finite non-zero value.  相似文献

A powerful tool to analyze light scattering by 3D arbitrary-shaped homogeneous or inhomogeneous obstacles located in free space is based on volume integral equation. In this paper we apply a weak form of volume integral equation to simulate light scattering by needle- and disk-type particles such as straight and curved cylinders, cylindrical plate and hexagonal prism with high aspect ratio and low and high values of refractive indexes. For problems where discrete sources method could be applied, we calculated differential scattering cross-section using both methods and got excellent agreement in results.  相似文献

The problem of spatially varying, collimated radiation incident on an anisotropically scattering, plane-parallel medium is considered. A very general phase function is allowed. An integral transform is used to reduce the three-dimensional radiative transport equation to a one-dimensional form, and a modified Ambarzumian's method is applied to derive nonlinear integral and integro-differential equations for the generalized reflection and transmission functions. The integration is over the polar and azimuthal angles—this formulation is referred to as the double-integral formulation. The integral equations are used to illustrate symmetry relationships and to obtain single- and double-scattering approximations. The generalized reflection and transmission functions are important in the construction of the solutions to many multidimensional problems. Coupled integral equations for the interior and emergent intensities are developed and, for the case of two identical homogeneous layers, used to formulate a doubling procedure. Results for an isotropic and Rayleigh scattering medium are presented to illustrate the computational characteristics of the formulation.  相似文献

A new type of anisotropic scattering with ring-and-line structure is observed for the first time from a BaTiO3 crystal illuminated by a linearly polarized laser beam. The analysis presented herein is based on the photorefractive four-wave interaction of the incident, reflected, and scattered beams. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

Asymptotic analysis of on-axis intensity fluctuation variance of a finite-sized light beam is performed starting from the functional integral representation for the field in a random medium. Collimated, diverging and converging beams with different diffraction properties are considered. A complete set of asymptotes is obtained using the main and additional coherence channels approach to the fourth moment of field analyses. We study the conditions of weak and strong fluctuation regimes for all these types of beams and obtain relatively simple formulae for on-axis intensity variance, which are valid for the case of stratified turbulence. It is shown that scintillations in the vicinity of the beam focus are governed by double-scattering processes for weak scintillations and double scattering from coherence channels for strong fluctuations.  相似文献

The elastic scattering of light mass, thermal-energy atoms from simple surfaces is investigated. The surface is represented by the model of a single planar square array of hard spheres. The effect of the surface potential well is treated semiclassically by simply shifting the energy of the incident atom ; furthermore a constant imaginary term is added to the energy to account for inelastic scattering and adsorption. As in the multiple scattering formalism of LEED the total scattering matrix of the lattice is expanded in terms of the individual gas atom-surface atom t-matrices. Propagation of the incident atom on the surface is described in terms of a one particle Green's function propagator with complex energy. The terms in the multiple scattering series are summed to all orders, by using standard matrix inversion techniques. The size of the matrix to be inverted limits to ten the total number of phase shifts that are included in the calculation. Thermal effects are included through angle dependent Debye-Waller factors.Model calculations have been performed to study the intensity of the specular and the diffracted beams as a function of the angles of incidence. The importance of surface temperature (introduced by the Debye-Waller factors), the incident energy and the depth of the potential well of the gas-surface interaction are discussed. The main feature of the results is the decrease of the intensity of the specular beam in going from glancing incidence to normal incidence and the presence of structure due to the appearance and disappearance of diffracted beams across the surface. The azimuthal behavior of the specular beam is in agreement with experimental observations.  相似文献

Graphical and tabular results are presented for the back-scattered intensity from a finite two-dimensional cylindrical medium exposed to a Gaussian beam of radiation. Also, results for the source function and flux at the boundaries are presented. The influence of optical thickness and albedo are most pronounced at large optical radii. The semi-infinite results can be used to approximate the finite case for small optical radii. Ranges for single, double, and multiple scattering are discussed. For locations far from the incident beam, the results can be expressed in terms of universal functions independent of beam size. A method is presented for extending the isotropic results to the anisotropic case where the phase function is made up of a spike superimposed on an otherwise isotropic phase function.  相似文献
