A paired-dominating set of a graph G = (VE) with no isolated vertex is a dominating set of vertices whose induced subgraph has a perfect matching. The paired-domination number of G, denoted by γ pr (G), is the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set of G. The paired-domination subdivision number sd γpr (G) is the minimum number of edges that must be subdivided (each edge in G can be subdivided at most once) in order to increase the paired-domination number. In this paper we establish upper bounds on the paired-domination subdivision number and pose some problems and conjectures.  相似文献

Let γ pr (G) denote the paired domination number of graph G. A graph G with no isolated vertex is paired domination vertex critical if for any vertex v of G that is not adjacent to a vertex of degree one, γ pr (Gv) < γ pr (G). We call these graphs γ pr -critical. In this paper, we present a method of constructing γ pr -critical graphs from smaller ones. Moreover, we show that the diameter of a γ pr -critical graph is at most and the upper bound is sharp, which answers a question proposed by Henning and Mynhardt [The diameter of paired-domination vertex critical graphs, Czechoslovak Math. J., to appear]. Xinmin Hou: Research supported by NNSF of China (No.10701068 and No.10671191).  相似文献

A set S of vertices in a graph G is a paired-dominating set of G if every vertex of G is adjacent to some vertex in S and if the subgraph induced by S contains a perfect matching. The paired-domination number of G, denoted by γ pr(G), is the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set of G. In [Dorbec P, Gravier S, Henning MA, J Comb Optim 14(1):1–7, 2007], the authors gave tight bounds for paired-dominating sets of generalized claw-free graphs. Yet, the critical cases are not claws but subdivided stars. We here give a bound for graphs containing no induced subdivided stars, depending on the size of the star.  相似文献

A paired-dominating set of a graph G is a dominating set of vertices whose induced subgraph has a perfect matching, while the paired-domination number, denoted by γ pr (G), is the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set in G. In this paper we investigate the paired-domination number in claw-free graphs. Specifically, we show that γ pr (G) ≤ (3n ? 1)/5 if G is a connected claw-free graph of order n with minimum degree at least three and that this bound is sharp.  相似文献

Let G = (V, E) be a graph without isolated vertices. A set S lohtain in V is a domination set of G if every vertex in V - S is adjacent to a vertex in S, that is N[S] = V. The domination number of G, denoted by γ(G), is the minimum cardinality of a domination set of G. A set S lohtain in V is a paired-domination set of G if S is a domination set of G and the induced subgraph G[S] has a perfect matching. The paired-domination number, denoted by γpr(G), is defined to be the minimum cardinality of a paired-domination set S in G. A subset S lohtain in V is a power domination set of G if all vertices of V can be observed recursively by the following rules: (i) all vertices in N[S] are observed initially, and (ii) if an observed vertex u has all neighbors observed except one neighbor v, then v is observed (by u). The power domination number, denoted by γp(G), is the minimum cardinality of a power domination set of G. In this paper, the constructive characterizations for trees with γp=γ and γpr = γp are provided respectively.  相似文献

A set S of vertices in a graph G is a paired-dominating set of G if every vertex of G is adjacent to some vertex in S and if the subgraph induced by S contains a perfect matching. The minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set of G is the paired-domination number of G, denoted by pr(G). If G does not contain a graph F as an induced subgraph, then G is said to be F-free. In particular if F=K1,3 or K4e, then we say that G is claw-free or diamond-free, respectively. Let G be a connected cubic graph of order n. We show that (i) if G is (K1,3,K4e,C4)-free, then pr(G)3n/8; (ii) if G is claw-free and diamond-free, then pr(G)2n/5; (iii) if G is claw-free, then pr(G)n/2. In all three cases, the extremal graphs are characterized.Research supported in part by the South African National Research Foundation and the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In this paper, we continue the study of paired-domination in graphs introduced by Haynes and Slater [T.W. Haynes, P.J. Slater, Paired-domination in graphs, Networks 32 (1998), 199–206]. A paired-dominating set of a graph G with no isolated vertex is a dominating set S of vertices whose induced subgraph has a perfect matching. We consider paired-dominating sets which are also locating sets, that is distinct vertices of G are dominated by distinct subsets of the paired-dominating set. We consider three variations of sets which are paired-dominating and locating sets and investigate their properties.  相似文献

Bounds on the Distance Two-Domination Number of a Graph   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
For a graph G = (V, E), a subset DV(G) is said to be distance two-dominating set in G if for each vertex uVD, there exists a vertex vD such that d(u,v)≤2. The minimum cardinality of a distance two-dominating set in G is called a distance two-domination number and is denoted by γ2(G). In this note we obtain various upper bounds for γ2(G) and characterize the classes of graphs attaining these bounds. Received: May 31, 1999 Final version received: July 13, 2000  相似文献

A set S of vertices of a graph G = (V, E) without isolated vertex is a total dominating set if every vertex of V(G) is adjacent to some vertex in S. The total domination number γ t (G) is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. The total domination subdivision number sdγt (G) is the minimum number of edges that must be subdivided (each edge in G can be subdivided at most once) in order to increase the total domination number. Karami, Khoeilar, Sheikholeslami and Khodkar, (Graphs and Combinatorics, 2009, 25, 727–733) proved that for any connected graph G of order n ≥ 3, sdγ t (G) ≤ 2γ t (G) − 1 and posed the following problem: Characterize the graphs that achieve the aforementioned upper bound. In this paper we first prove that sdγ t (G) ≤ 2α′(G) for every connected graph G of order n ≥ 3 and δ(G) ≥ 2 where α′(G) is the maximum number of edges in a matching in G and then we characterize all connected graphs G with sdγ t (G)=2γ t (G)−1.  相似文献

The signed distance-k-domination number of a graph is a certain variant of the signed domination number. If v is a vertex of a graph G, the open k-neighborhood of v, denoted by N k (v), is the set N k (v) = {u: uv and d(u, v) ⩽ k}. N k [v] = N k (v) ⋃ {v} is the closed k-neighborhood of v. A function f: V → {−1, 1} is a signed distance-k-dominating function of G, if for every vertex . The signed distance-k-domination number, denoted by γ k,s (G), is the minimum weight of a signed distance-k-dominating function on G. The values of γ 2,s (G) are found for graphs with small diameter, paths, circuits. At the end it is proved that γ 2,s (T) is not bounded from below in general for any tree T.  相似文献

Given a vertex v of a graph G the second order degree of v denoted as d 2(v) is defined as the number of vertices at distance 2 from v.In this paper we address the following question:What are the sufficient conditions for a graph to have a vertex v such that d2(v) ≥ d(v),where d(v) denotes the degree of v? Among other results, every graph of minimum degree exactly 2,except four graphs,is shown to have a vertex of second order degree as large as its own degree. Moreover, every K-4-free graph or every maximal planar graph is shown to have a vertex v such that d2(v) ≥ d(v).Other sufficient conditions on graphs for guaranteeing this property are also proved.  相似文献

A Roman dominating function on a graph G is a function f : V(G) → {0, 1, 2} satisfying the condition that every vertex u for which f (u) = 0 is adjacent to at least one vertex v for which f (v) = 2. The weight of a Roman dominating function is the value f (V(G)) = ?u ? V(G) f (u){f (V(G)) = \sum_{u\in V(G)} f (u)}. The Roman domination number, γ R (G), of G is the minimum weight of a Roman dominating function on G. The Roman bondage number b R (G) of a graph G with maximum degree at least two is the minimum cardinality of all sets E í E(G){E^{\prime} \subseteq E(G)} for which γ R (GE′) > γ R (G). In this paper we present different bounds on the Roman bondage number of planar graphs.  相似文献

A set S of vertices in a graph G = (V, E) is a total restrained dominating set (TRDS) of G if every vertex of G is adjacent to a vertex in S and every vertex of V − S is adjacent to a vertex in V − S. The total restrained domination number of G, denoted by γ tr (G), is the minimum cardinality of a TRDS of G. Let G be a cubic graph of order n. In this paper we establish an upper bound on γ tr (G). If adding the restriction that G is claw-free, then we show that γ tr (G) = γ t (G) where γ t (G) is the total domination number of G, and thus some results on total domination in claw-free cubic graphs are valid for total restrained domination. For a nontrivial connected graph G, let c: V (G) → ℕ be a vertex coloring of G where adjacent vertices may be colored the same. For a vertex v of G, the neighborhood color set NC(v) is the set of colors of the neighbors of v. The coloring c is called a set coloring if NC(u) ≠ NC(v) for every pair u, v of adjacent vertices of G. The minimum number of colors required of such a coloring is called the set chromatic number x s (G). A study is made of the set chromatic number of the join G+H of two graphs G and H. Sharp lower and upper bounds are established for x s (G + H) in terms of x s (G), x s (H), and the clique numbers ω(G) and ω(H).  相似文献

Let G = (V, E) be a simple graph. A subset SV is a dominating set of G, if for any vertex uV-S, there exists a vertex vS such that uvE. The domination number, denoted by γ(G), is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set. In this paper we will prove that if G is a 5-regular graph, then γ(G) ⩽ 5/14n.  相似文献

For a simple graph G?=?(𝒱, ?) with vertex-set 𝒱?=?{1,?…?,?n}, let 𝒮(G) be the set of all real symmetric n-by-n matrices whose graph is G. We present terminology linking established as well as new results related to the minimum rank problem, with spectral properties in graph theory. The minimum rank mr(G) of G is the smallest possible rank over all matrices in 𝒮(G). The rank spread r v (G) of G at a vertex v, defined as mr(G)???mr(G???v), can take values ??∈?{0,?1,?2}. In general, distinct vertices in a graph may assume any of the three values. For ??=?0 or 1, there exist graphs with uniform r v (G) (equal to the same integer at each vertex v). We show that only for ??=?0, will a single matrix A in 𝒮(G) determine when a graph has uniform rank spread. Moreover, a graph G, with vertices of rank spread zero or one only, is a λ-core graph for a λ-optimal matrix A in 𝒮(G). We also develop sufficient conditions for a vertex of rank spread zero or two and a necessary condition for a vertex of rank spread two.  相似文献

Let G = (V, E) be a graph. A set S í V{S \subseteq V} is a total restrained dominating set if every vertex is adjacent to a vertex in S and every vertex of VS is adjacent to a vertex in VS. The total restrained domination number of G, denoted by γ tr (G), is the smallest cardinality of a total restrained dominating set of G. We show that if δ ≥ 3, then γ tr (G) ≤ nδ − 2 provided G is not one of several forbidden graphs. Furthermore, we show that if G is r − regular, where 4 ≤ r ≤ n − 3, then γ tr (G) ≤ n − diam(G) − r + 1.  相似文献

Let G = (V (G),E(G)) be a graph with vertex set V (G) and edge set E(G), and g and f two positive integral functions from V (G) to Z+-{1} such that g(v) ≤ f(v) ≤ dG(v) for all vV (G), where dG(v) is the degree of the vertex v. It is shown that every graph G, including both a [g,f]-factor and a hamiltonian path, contains a connected [g,f +1]-factor. This result also extends Kano’s conjecture concerning the existence of connected [k,k+1]-factors in graphs. * The work of this author was supported by NSFC of China under Grant No. 10271065, No. 60373025. † The work of these authors was also supported in part by the US Department of Energy’s Genomes to Life program (http://doegenomestolife.org/) under project, “Carbon Sequestration in Synechococcus sp.: From Molecular Machines to Hierarchical Modeling” (www.genomes2life.org) and by National Science Foundation (NSF/DBI-0354771,NSF/ITR-IIS-0407204).  相似文献

A graph G is said to be 3-domination critical if its domination number γ(G) = 3 and γ(G + e) = 2 for any edge e not contained in G. In this paper we first establish some structural properties of 3-domination critical graphs with diameter equal to 3. In particular, this allows us to characterize a special family of 3-domination critical graphs which contains those with minimum degree one. Moreover, we show that if the minimum degree of a 3-domination critical graph G is at least 3, then α(G) ≤ κ(G) + 1 or G is superconnected, where α(G) is the independence number and κ(G) is the vertex-connectivity of G.  相似文献
