The paper presents a fracture analysis for an electromagnetically dielectric crack in a functionally graded magnetoelectroelastic strip. It is considered that the material properties are varying exponentially along the width direction. Under the assumption of the in-plane magneto-electro-mechanical loadings, the dielectric crack is simulated by using the semi-permeable crack-face boundary conditions. The Fourier transform technique is applied to solve the boundary-value problem and four coupling singular integral equations are determined. A nonlinear system of algebraic equations is further derived and solved numerically to determine the electromagnetic field inside the crack. Then the field intensity factors of stress, electric displacement, and magnetic induction are given. Through the numerical computations, the effects of the material non-homogeneity and the permeability of crack interior on the electric displacement and the magnetic induction at the crack faces are studied. The variations of the intensity factors of stress, electric displacement, and magnetic induction versus the geometry of the crack, the strip width, and the material non-homogeneity are presented in graphics respectively.  相似文献

The transient response of a magneto-electro-elastic material with a penny-shaped dielectric crack subjected to in-plane magneto-electro-mechanical impacts is made. To simulate an opening crack with a dielectric interior, the crack-face electromagnetic boundary conditions are supposed to depend on the crack opening displacement and the jumps of electric and magnetic potentials across the crack. Four ideal crack-face electromagnetic boundary conditions involving a combination of electrically permeable or impermeable and magnetically permeable or impermeable assumptions can be reduced. The Laplace and Hankel transform techniques are further utilized to solve the mixed initial-boundary-value problem. Three coupling Fredholm integral equations are obtained and solved by the composite Simpson's rule. Dynamic field intensity factors of stress, electric displacement, magnetic induction, crack opening displacement (COD), electric potential and magnetic potential are given in the Laplace transform domain. By means of a numerical inversion of the Laplace transform, numerical results are calculated to show the variations of the physical parameters of concern versus the normalized time in graphics. The effects of applied electric and magnetic loads on the dynamic intensity factors of stress and COD, and the dynamic energy release rate for a BaTiO3-CoFe2O4 composite with a penny-shaped vacuum crack are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The assumptions of impermeable and permeable cracks give rise to significant errors in determining electro-elastic behavior of a cracked piezoelectric material. The former simply imposes that the permittivity or electric displacement of the crack interior vanishes, and the latter neglects also the effects of the dielectric of an opening crack interior. Considering the presence of the dielectric of an opening crack interior and the permeability of the crack surfaces for electric field, this paper analyzes electro-elastic behavior induced by a penny-shaped dielectric crack in a piezoelectric ceramic layer. In the cases of prescribed displacement or prescribed stress at the layer surfaces, the Hankel transform technique is employed to reduce the problem to Fredholm integral equations with a parameter dependent nonlinearly on the unknown functions. For an infinite piezoelectric space, a closed-form solution can be derived explicitly, while for a piezoelectric layer, an iterative technique is suggested to solve the resulting nonlinear equations. Field intensity factors are obtained in terms of the solution of the equations. Numerical results of the crack opening displacement intensity factors are presented for a cracked PZT-5H layer and the effect of applied electric field on crack growth are examined for both cases. The results indicate that the fracture toughness of a piezoelectric ceramic is affected by the direction of applied electric fields, dependent on the elastic boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, a mixed electric boundary value problem for a two-dimensional piezoelectric crack problem is presented, in the sense that the crack face is partly conducting and partly impermeable. By the analytical continuation method, the unknown electric charge distributions on the upper and lower conducting crack faces are reduced to two decoupled singular integral equations and then these two equations are converted into algebraic equations to find the full field solution. Though the results suggest that the stress intensity factors at the crack tip are identical to those of conventional piezoelectric materials, but the electric field and electric displacement are related to the electric boundary conditions on the crack faces. The electric field and electric displacement are singular not only at crack tips but also at the junctures between the impermeable part and conducting parts. Numerical results for the variations of the electric field, electric displacement field and J-integral with respect to the normalized impermeable crack length are shown. Some discussions for the energy release rate and the J-integral are made.  相似文献

The problem of two unequal collinear straight cracks weakening a poled transversely isotropic piezoelectric ceramic is addressed under semi-permeable electric boundary conditions on the crack faces. The plate has been subjected to combined in-plane normal(to the faces of the cracks) mechanical and electric loads. Problem is formulated employing Stroh formalism and solved using complex variable technique. The elastic field, electric field and energy release rate are obtained in closed analytic form. A case study is presented for poled PZT-5H cracked plate to study the effect of prescribed mechanical load, electric load, inter-crack distance and crack lengths on crack arrest parameters stress intensity factor (SIF), electric displacement intensity factor (EDIF) and mechanical and total energy release rates (ERR). Moreover a comparative study is done of impermeable and semi-permeable crack face boundary conditions on SIF, EDIF and ERR, and results obtained is presented graphically. It is observed that the effect of dielectric medium in the crack gap cannot be ignored.  相似文献

Summary  The problem of an interface edge crack between two bonded quarter-planes of dissimilar piezoelectric materials is considered under the conditions of anti-plane shear and in-plane electric loading. The crack surfaces are assumed to be impermeable to the electric field. An integral transform technique is employed to reduce the problem under consideration to dual integral equations. By solving the resulting dual integral equations, the intensity factors of the stress and the electric displacement and the energy release rate as well as the crack sliding displacement and the electric voltage across the crack surfaces are obtained in explicit form for the case of concentrated forces and free charges at the crack surfaces and at the boundary. The derived results can be taken as fundamental solutions which can be superposed to model more realistic problems. Received 10 November 2000; accepted for publication 28 March 2001  相似文献

Dynamic analysis of two collinear electro-magnetically dielectric cracks in a piezoelectromagnetic material is made under in-plane magneto-electro-mechanical impacts. Generalized semi-permeable crack-face boundary conditions are proposed to simulate realistic opening cracks with dielectric. Ideal boundary conditions of a combination of electrically permeable or impermeable and magnetically permeable or impermeable assumptions are several limiting cases of the semi-permeable dielectric crack. Utilizing the Laplace and Fourier transforms, the mixed initial-boundary-value problem is reduced to solving singular integral equations with Cauchy kernel. Dynamic intensity factors of stress, electric displacement, magnetic induction and crack opening displacement (COD) near the inner and outer crack tips are determined in the Laplace transform domain. Numerical results for a special magnetoelectroelastic solid are calculated to show the influences of the dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability inside the cracks on the crack-face electric displacement and magnetic induction. By means of a numerical inversion of the Laplace transform, the variations of the normalized intensity factors of stress and COD are discussed against applied magnetoelectric impact loadings and the geometry of the cracks for fully impermeable, vacuum, fully permeable cracks and shown in graphics.  相似文献

The dynamic field intensity factors and energy release rates in a rectangular piezoelectric ceramic medium containing a center crack are obtained for boundary conditions of a permeable and an impermeable crack under electro-mechanical impact loading. An integral transform method is used to reduce the problem to two pairs of dual integral equations, which are then expressed as Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical values on the dynamic energy release rate are obtained to show the dependences upon the geometry and electric field.  相似文献

The transient response of a Mode-III crack propagating in a magneto-electro-elastic solid subjected to mixed loads is investigated through solving the corresponding boundary-initial-value problem in both the cracked solid region and the interior fluid region with treatment of electro-magnetically permeable and impermeable crack face conditions in a unified way. The closed-form results for the dynamic field intensity factors are used to evaluate the dynamic energy release rate through the crack-tip dynamic contour integral. The permeability of the interior fluid region relative to the cracked solid region significantly affects the magneto-electro-mechanical coupling coefficient in the Bleustein–Gulyaev wave function and, consequently, the horizontal shear surface wave speed, the dynamic field intensity factors and the dynamic energy release rate. It is revealed from dynamic fracture mechanics analysis that the dynamic energy release rate thus obtained has an odd dependence on the dynamic electric displacement intensity factor and the dynamic magnetic induction intensity factor. It is also found that the horizontal shear surface wave speed provides the limiting velocity for the propagation of a Mode-III crack in a magneto-electro-elastic solid when there is only applied traction loading.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of a limited-permeable rectangular crack in a transversely isotropic piezoelectric material is impinged by to a P-wave. The generalized Almansi theorem and the Schmidt method are used to determine the stress intensity factor and energy density factor as the primary fracture criterion of failure. The mixed boundary value problem entails the evaluation of the appropriate crack edge stress singularities that are characteristics of the fundamental functions. The stress and electric displacement intensity factors are also used to find the energy release rate that can be computed numerically and compared with the results corresponding to those of the stress intensity factor, and energy density factor. Graphical presentation shows that the energy release rate is always negative for the boundary conditions considered while the energy density factors always remain positive. Under certain conditions, the stress and electric displacement intensity factors can be negative and subject to physical limitations. Piezoelectric material boundary value problem solutions should therefore be qualified by the application of failure criteria by fracture of otherwise, particularly when the mechanical and electrical energy can release by creating free surface at the macroscopic and microscopic scales. Negative energy release rate found for the piezoelectric medium in this work can be a case in point.Positive definiteness of the energy density factor can be applied to mutliscale fracture. This is not true for the stress intensity factor nor the energy release rate. Hence, crack initiation behavior for the permittivity of a rectangular crack due to the wave propagation effects may be studied. In particular, the initiation of micro-cracks may be identified with certain critical stress wave frequency band. Negative stress intensity factor may not enhance macrocracking but it does not exclude microcrack initiation.  相似文献

The polarization saturation (PS) model [Gao, H., Barnett, D.M., 1996. An invariance property of local energy release rates in a strip saturation model of piezoelectric fracture. Int. J. Fract. 79, R25–R29; Gao, H., Zhang, T.Y., Tong, P., 1997. Local and global energy release rates for an electrically yielded crack in a piezoelectric ceramic. J. Mech. Phys. Solids 45, 491–510], and the dielectric breakdown (DB) model [Zhang, T.Y., Zhao, M.H., Cao, C.F., 2005. The strip dielectric breakdown model. Int. J. Fract. 132, 311–327] explain very well some experimental observations of fracture of piezoelectric ceramics. In this paper, the nonlinear hybrid extended displacement discontinuity-fundamental solution method (NLHEDD-FSM) is presented for numerical analysis of both the PS and DB models of two-dimensional (2D) finite piezoelectric media under impermeable and semi-permeable electric boundary conditions. In this NLHEDD-FSM, the solution is expressed approximately by a linear combination of fundamental solutions of the governing equations, which includes the extended point force fundamental solutions with sources placed at chosen points outside the domain of the problem under consideration, and the extended Crouch fundamental solutions with extended displacement discontinuities placed on the crack and the electric yielding zone. The coefficients of the fundamental solutions are determined by letting the approximated solution satisfy certain conditions on the boundary of the domain, on the crack face and the electric yielding zone. The zero electric displacement intensity factor in the PS model or the zero electric field strength intensity factor in the DB model at the outer tips of the electric yielding zone is used as a supplementary condition to determine the size of the electric yielding zone. Iteration approaches are adopted in the NLHEDD-FSM. The electric yielding zone is determined, and the extended intensity factors and the local J-integral are calculated for center cracks in piezoelectric strips. The effects of finite domain size, saturation property and different electric boundary conditions, as well as different models on the electric yielding zone and the local J-integral, are studied.  相似文献

Thermomagnetoelectroelastic crack branching of magnetoelectro thermoelastic materials is theoretically investigated based on Stroh formalism and continuous distribution of dislocation approach. The crack face boundary condition is assumed to be fully thermally, electrically and magnetically impermeable. Explicit Green’s functions for the interaction of a crack and a thermomagnetoelectroelastic dislocation (i.e., a thermal dislocation, a mechanical dislocation, an electric dipole and a magnetic dipole located at a same point) are presented. The problem is reduced to two sets of coupled singular integral equations with the thermal dislocation and magnetoelectroelastic dislocation densities along the branched crack line as the unknown variables. As a result, the formulations for the stress, electric displacement and magnetic induction intensity factors and energy release rate at the branched crack tip are expressed in terms of the dislocation density functions and the branch angle. Numerical results are presented to study the effect of applied thermal flux, electric field and magnetic field on the crack propagation path by using the maximum energy release rate criterion.  相似文献

A flat annular crack in a piezoelectric layer subjected to electroelastic loadings is investigated under electrically impermeable boundary condition on the crack surface. Using Hankel transform technique, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations. With the aid of Gauss-Chebyshev integration technique, the integral equations are further reduced to a system of algebraic equations. The field intensity factor and energy release rate are determined. Numerical results reveal the effects of electric loadings and crack configuration on crack propagation and growth. The results seem useful for design of the piezoelectric structures and devices of high performance.  相似文献

This paper provides a study of the problem of a propagating finite crack under in-plane loading in functionally graded piezoelectric materials (FGPMs). The analytical formulations are developed by Fourier transforms and the resulting singular integral equations are solved by using Chebyshev polynomials. By using a dielectric crack model with deformation-dependent electric boundary condition, numerical simulations are made to show the effects of the dielectric medium, the gradient of material properties and the speed of crack propagation on the fracture parameters, such as the stress, electric displacement and crack opening displacement intensity factors. A critical state for the electromechanical loading applied to the FGPMs is observed, which determines whether the traditionally impermeable (or permeable) crack model serves as the upper or lower bound for the dielectric model. The validity of this dielectric crack model is also examined by comparing the results of different existing crack models.  相似文献

The fracture mechanics of electromechanical materials has been investigated for well over a decade, yet there still exists controversy over the appropriate crack face boundary conditions for non-conducting cracks. In this paper an experimental protocol for measuring the energy release rate in a non-linear reversible electromechanical body is proposed and summarized. The potential results from the proposed experimental approach are capable of shedding light on the true physical nature of the conditions prevailing at the crack surface and in the space within the crack. The experimental procedure is simulated numerically for a linear piezoelectric specimen in a four point bending configuration subjected to electrical loading perpendicular to the crack. The focus of these investigations is on a comparison between the commonly used exact crack face boundary condition and the recently proposed energetically consistent boundary conditions. To perform the numerical calculation with a wide range of electrical and mechanical loadings, two efficient finite element formulations are presented for the general analysis of crack problems with non-linear crack face boundary conditions. Methods for the numerical determination of the crack tip energy release rate and the simulation of the experimental method for obtaining the total energy release rate are developed. Numerical results for the crack tip and total energy release rate are given for both the exact and energetically consistent boundary conditions. It is shown that the crack tip energy release rate calculated under energetically consistent boundary conditions is equal to the total energy release rate generated from the simulated experimental method. When the exact boundary conditions are used, there is no such agreement.  相似文献

Magnetoelectroelastic analysis of a cracked piezoelectromagnetic solid is made within the framework of the theory of linear magnetoelectroelasticity. The associated mixed boundary-value problem is solved by the Fourier integral transform. For general electromagnetic crack-face boundary conditions, a full magnetoelectroelastic field in the entire plane induced by a crack is obtained explicitly, and field intensity factors and energy release rate are given. The influences of applied electric and magnetic loadings on the energy release rate, the strain intensity factor, and the stress distribution are presented graphically.  相似文献

The problem of two collinear cracks of equal length and normal to the strip boundaries in an infinitely long piezoelectric strip of finite width is analyzed. By using the Fourier series method, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to triple series equations, which are then transformed to a singular integral equation. For four combined cases of uniform antiplane shear and uniform inplane electric loading at infinity, the solution is obtained in closed-form, and explicit expressions for the electroelastic field are determined. The formulae for calculating the intensity factors of the electroelastic field and the energy release rate at the inner and outer crack tips are given, respectively. Some special cases for the electroelastic field intensity factors and the energy release rate of the present results are discussed.  相似文献
