This is the third part in a series of papers developing a tensor product theory for modules for a vertex operator algebra. The goal of this theory is to construct a “vertex tensor category” structure on the category of modules for a suitable vertex operator algebra. The notion of vertex tensor category is essentially a “complex analogue” of the notion of symmetric tensor category, and in fact a vertex tensor category produces a braided tensor category in a natural way. In this paper, we focus on a particular element P(z) of a certain moduli space of three-punctured Riemann spheres; in general, every element of this moduli space will give rise to a notion of tensor product, and one must consider all these notions in order to construct a vertex tensor category. Here we present the fundamental properties of the P(z)-tensor product of two modules for a vertex operator algebra. We give two constructions of a P(z)-tensor product, using the results, established in Parts I and II of this series, for a certain other element of the moduli space. The definitions and results in Parts I and II are recalled.  相似文献

This is the first part in a series of papers developing a tensor product theory for modules for a vertex operator algebra. The goal of this theory is to construct a vertex tensor category structure on the category of modules for a suitable vertex operator algebra. The notion of vertex tensor category is essentially a complex analogue of the notion of symmetric tensor category, and in fact a vertex tensor category produces a braided tensor category in a natural way. The theory applies in particular to many familiar rational vertex operator algebras, including those associated with WZNW models, minimal models and the moonshine module. In this paper (Part I), we introduce the notions ofP(z)- andQ(z)-tensor product, whereP(z) andQ(z) are two special elements of the moduli space of spheres with punctures and local coordinates, and we present the fundamental properties and constructions ofQ(z)-tensor products.  相似文献

This is the fourth part in a series of papers developing a tensor product theory of modules for a vertex operator algebra. In this paper, we establish the associativity of P(z)-tensor products for nonzero complex numbers z constructed in Part III of the present series under suitable conditions. The associativity isomorphisms constructed in this paper are analogous to associativity isomorphisms for vector space tensor products in the sense that they relate the tensor products of three elements in three modules taken in different ways. The main new feature is that they are controlled by the decompositions of certain spheres with four punctures into spheres with three punctures using a sewing operation. We also show that under certain conditions, the existence of the associativity isomorphisms is equivalent to the associativity (or (nonmeromorphic) operator product expansion in the language of physicists) for the intertwining operators (or chiral vertex operators). Thus the associativity of tensor products provides a means to establish the (nonmeromorphic) operator product expansion.  相似文献

Given a commutative associative algebra A with an associative form (’), we construct a vertex operator algebra V with the weight two space V2;? A If in addition the form (’) is nondegenerate, we show that there is a simple vertex operator algebra with V2;? A We also show that if A is semisimple, then the vertex operator algebra constructed is the tensor products of a certain number of Virasoro vertex operator algebras.  相似文献

This paper reviews some recent results on the parafermion vertex operator algebra associated to the integrable highest weight module L(k, 0) of positive integer level k for any affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra ĝ, where g is a finite dimensional simple Lie algebra. In particular, the generators and the C 2-cofiniteness of the parafermion vertex operator algebras are discussed. A proof of the well-known fact that the parafermion vertex operator algebra can be realized as the commutant of a lattice vertex operator algebra in L(k, 0) is also given.  相似文献

A general method for constructing logarithmic modules in vertex operator algebra theory is presented. By utilizing this approach, we give explicit vertex operator construction of certain indecomposable and logarithmic modules for the triplet vertex algebra W(p){\mathcal{W}(p)} and for other subalgebras of lattice vertex algebras and their N = 1 super extensions. We analyze in detail indecomposable modules obtained in this way, giving further evidence for the conjectural equivalence between the category of W(p){\mathcal{W}(p)}-modules and the category of modules for the restricted quantum group [`(U)]q(sl2){\overline{\mathcal{U}}_q(sl_2)} , q = e π i/p . We also construct logarithmic representations for a certain affine vertex operator algebra at admissible level realized in Adamović (J. Pure Appl. Algebra 196:119–134, 2005). In this way we prove the existence of the logarithmic representations predicted in Gaberdiel (Int. J. Modern Phys. A 18, 4593–4638, 2003). Our approach enlightens related logarithmic intertwining operators among indecomposable modules, which we also construct in the paper.  相似文献

For a given simple Jordan algebra A of type A, B or C over C, we construct a vertex operator algebra V such that the weight two space V 2 ? A by using the structure of Heisenberg algebras. In addition, we compute the automorphism groups of these vertex operator algebras.  相似文献

We give an example of an irrational C 2-cofinite vertex operator algebra whose central charge is −2d for any positive integer d. This vertex operator algebra is given as the even part of the vertex operator superalgebra generated by d pairs of symplectic fermions, and it is just the realization of the c = −2-triplet algebra given by Kausch in the case d = 1. We also classify irreducible modules for this vertex operator algebra and determine its automorphism group. Nonlocal vertex algebras generated by formal vertex operators   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
This is the first paper in a series to study vertex algebra-like objects arising from infinite-dimensional quantum groups (quantum affine algebras and Yangians). In this paper we lay the foundations for this study. For any vector space W, we study what we call quasi compatible subsets of Hom (W,W((x))) and we prove that any maximal quasi compatible subspace has a natural nonlocal (namely noncommutative) vertex algebra structure with W as a natural faithful quasi module in a certain sense, and that any quasi compatible subset generates a nonlocal vertex algebra with W as a quasi module. In particular, taking W to be a highest weight module for a quantum affine algebra we obtain a nonlocal vertex algebra with W as a quasi module. We also formulate and study a notion of quantum vertex algebra and we give general constructions of nonlocal vertex algebras, quantum vertex algebras and their modules.  相似文献

For every m ∈ ℂ ∖ {0, −2} and every nonnegative integer k we define the vertex operator (super)algebra D m,k having two generators and rank . If m is a positive integer then D m,k can be realized as a subalgebra of a lattice vertex algebra. In this case, we prove that D m,k is a regular vertex operator (super) algebra and find the number of inequivalent irreducible modules.   相似文献

We construct new monomial quasi-particle bases of Feigin-Stoyanovsky type subspaces for the affine Lie algebra sl(3;ℂ)∧ from which the known fermionic-type formulas for (k, 3)-admissible configurations follow naturally. In the proof we use vertex operator algebra relations for standard modules and coefficients of intertwining operators.  相似文献

The twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra is the universal central extension of the Lie algebra of differential operators on a circle of order at most one. In this paper, we first study the variety of semi-conformal vectors of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, which is a finite set consisting of two nontrivial elements. Based on this property,we also show that the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra is a tensor product of two vertex operator algebras. Moreover, associating to properties of semi-conformal vectors of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, we charaterized twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebras. This will be used to understand the classification problems of vertex operator algebras whose varieties of semi-conformal vectors are finite sets.

We formulate the notion of “N = 2 vertex superalgebra with two odd formal variables” using a Jacobi identity with odd formal variables in which an N = 2 superconformal shift is incorporated into the usual Jacobi identity for a vertex superalgebra. It is shown that as a consequence of these axioms, the N = 2 vertex superalgebra is naturally a representation of the Lie superalgebra isomorphic to the three-dimensional algebra of superderivations with basis consisting of the usual conformal operator and the two N = 2 superconformal operators. In addition, this superconformal shift in the Jacobi identity dictates the form of the odd formal variable components of the vertex operators, and allows one to easily derive the useful formulas in the theory. The notion of N = 2 Neveu–Schwarz vertex operator superalgebra with two odd formal variables is introduced, and consequences of this notion are derived. In particular, we develop the duality properties which are necessary for a rigorous treatment of the correspondence with the underlying supergeometry. Various other formulations of the notion of N = 2 (Neveu–Schwarz) vertex (operator) superalgebra appearing in the mathematics and physics literature are discussed, and several mistakes in the literature are noted and corrected.  相似文献

The problem of constructing twisted modules for a vertex operator algebra and an automorphism has been solved in particular in two contexts. One of these two constructions is that initiated by the third author in the case of a lattice vertex operator algebra and an automorphism arising from an arbitrary lattice isometry. This construction, from a physical point of view, is related to the space–time geometry associated with the lattice in the sense of string theory. The other construction is due to the first author, jointly with C. Dong and G. Mason, in the case of a multifold tensor product of a given vertex operator algebra with itself and a permutation automorphism of the tensor factors. The latter construction is based on a certain change of variables in the worldsheet geometry in the sense of string theory. In the case of a lattice that is the orthogonal direct sum of copies of a given lattice, these two very different constructions can both be carried out, and must produce isomorphic twisted modules, by a theorem of the first author jointly with Dong and Mason. In this paper, we explicitly construct an isomorphism, thereby providing, from both mathematical and physical points of view, a direct link between space–time geometry and worldsheet geometry in this setting.  相似文献

For a vertex operator algebra V with conformal vector ω,we consider a class of vertex operator subalgebras and their conformal vectors. They are called semi-conformal vertex operator subalgebras and semiconformal vectors of(V,ω),respectively, and were used to study duality theory of vertex operator algebras via coset constructions.Using these objects attached to(V,ω),we shall understand the structure of the vertex operator algebra(V,ω).At first,we define the set Sc(V,ω)of semi-conformal vectors of V, then we prove that Sc(V,ω)is an affine algebraic variety with a partial ordering and an involution map.Corresponding to each semi-conformal vector, there is a unique maximal semi-conformal vertex operator subalgebra containing it.The properties of these subalgebras are invariants of vertex operator algebras. As an example,we describe the corresponding varieties of semi-conformal vectors for Heisenberg vertex operator algebras. As an application,we give two characterizations of Heisenberg vertex operator algebras using the properties of these varieties.  相似文献

Finite vs affine W-algebras   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In Section 1 we review various equivalent definitions of a vertex algebra V. The main novelty here is the definition in terms of an indefinite integral of the λ-bracket. In Section 2 we construct, in the most general framework, the Zhu algebra ZhuΓV, an associative algebra which “controls” Γ-twisted representations of the vertex algebra V with a given Hamiltonian operator H. An important special case of this construction is the H-twisted Zhu algebra ZhuH V. In Section 3 we review the theory of non-linear Lie conformal algebras (respectively non-linear Lie algebras). Their universal enveloping vertex algebras (resp. universal enveloping algebras) form an important class of freely generated vertex algebras (resp. PBW generated associative algebras). We also introduce the H-twisted Zhu non-linear Lie algebra ZhuH R of a non-linear Lie conformal algebra R and we show that its universal enveloping algebra is isomorphic to the H-twisted Zhu algebra of the universal enveloping vertex algebra of R. After a discussion of the necessary cohomological material in Section 4, we review in Section 5 the construction and basic properties of affine and finite W-algebras, obtained by the method of quantum Hamiltonian reduction. Those are some of the most intensively studied examples of freely generated vertex algebras and PBW generated associative algebras. Applying the machinery developed in Sections 3 and 4, we then show that the H-twisted Zhu algebra of an affine W-algebra is isomorphic to the finite W-algebra, attached to the same data. In Section 6 we define the Zhu algebra of a Poisson vertex algebra, and we discuss quasiclassical limits. In the Appendix, the equivalence of three definitions of a finite W-algebra is established. “I am an old man, and I know that a definition cannot be so complicated.” I.M. An Akivis algebra is a vector space V endowed with a skew-symmetric bilinear product [x,y] and a trilinear product A(x,y,z) that satisfy the identity
These algebras were introduced in 1976 by M.A. Akivis as local algebras of three-webs. For any (nonassociative) algebra B one may obtain an Akivis algebra Ak (B) by considering in B the usual commutator [x,y] = xy – yx and associator A(x,y,z) = (xy)z – x(yz). Akivis posed the problem whether every Akivis algebra is isomorphic to a subalgebra of Ak (B) for a certain B. We prove that this problem has a positive answer.  相似文献

Using realizations of the positive discrete series representations of the Lie algebra su(1,1) in terms of Meixner—Pollaczek polynomials, the action of su(1,1) on Poisson kernels of these polynomials is considered. In the tensor product of two such representations, two sets of eigenfunctions of a certain operator can be considered and they are shown to be related through continuous Hahn polynomials. As a result, a bilinear generating function for continuous Hahn polynomials is obtained involving the Poisson kernel of Meixner—Pollaczek polynomials; this result is also known as the Burchnall—Chaundy formula. For the positive discrete series representations of the quantized universal enveloping algebra U q (su(1,1)) a similar analysis is performed and leads to a bilinear generating function for Askey—Wilson polynomials involving the Poisson kernel of Al-Salam and Chihara polynomials.
