In this paper we consider the dimer problem forM×N rectangular arrays, whereM andN are positive integers,M being small. A unified method for solving such problems is given, and is applied to the casesM=2 (the solution of which is already known (see [1, 4]) andM=3 which, it seems, has not previously been solved. The method is also applicable to a wider class of problems, and some examples of such applications are given. In theory it is always possible to obtain a closed solution to these problems in the form of rational generating functions. In practice this is feasible only for very small values ofM, but the methods described will enable numerical results for larger values ofM to be found by means of a computer program.  相似文献

Our main result in this paper establishes that if G is a compact Lie subgroup of the isometry group of a compact Riemannian manifold M acting with cohomogeneity one in M and either G has no singular orbits or the singular orbits of G have dimension at most n−3, then the unit vector field N orthogonal to the principal orbits of G is weakly smooth and is a critical point of the energy functional acting on the unit normal vector fields of M. A formula for the energy of N in terms of the of integral of the Ricci curvature of M and of the integral of the square of the mean curvature of the principal orbits of G is obtained as well. In the case that M is the sphere and G the orthogonal group it is known that that N is minimizer. It is an open question if N is a minimizer in general.  相似文献

Abstract

Let N be a submodule of a module M over a commutative ring R such that M/N is finitely generated. It is shown that a submodule of M is a prime submodule minimal over N if and only if it is the saturation of N + pM for certain prime ideal p of R. A submodule N of a module M is idempotent if N = Hom(M, N)N. The module M is fully idempotent if every submodule of M is idempotent. We prove that over a commutative ring, cyclic idempotent submodules of any module are direct summands. Counterexamples are given to show that this result is not true in general. It is shown that over commutative Noetherian rings, the fully idempotent modules are precisely the semisimple modules. We also show that the commutative rings over which every module is fully idempotent are exactly the semisimple rings. Idempotent submodules of free modules are characterized.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate definable models of Peano Arithmetic PA in a model of PA. For any definable model N without parameters in a model M, we show that N is isomorphic to M if M is elementary extension of the standard model and N is elementarily equivalent to M. On the other hand, we show that there is a model M and a definable model N with parameters in M such that N is elementarily equivalent to M but N is not isomorphic to M. We also show that there is a model M and a definable model N with parameters in M such that N is elementarily equivalent to M, and N is isomorphic to M, but N is not definably isomorphic to M. And also, we give a generalization of Tennenbaum's theorem. At the end, we give a new method to construct a definable model by a refinement of Kotlarski's method. (© 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.  We exhibit an example of a line bundle M on a smooth complex projective variety Y s.t. M satisfies Property N 10 , the 10-module of a minimal resolution of the ideal of the embedding of Y by M is nonzero and M 2 does not satisfy Property N 10 . Thus this is a completely convincing example showing that surprisingly it is not true that if a line bundle M satisfies Property N p then any power of M satisfies Property N p . Let M be a right R-module and N ∈ σ[M]. A submodule K of N is called δ-M-small if, whenever N = K + X with N/X M-singular, we have N = X. N is called a δ-M-small module if N? K, K is δ-M-small in L for some K, L ∈ σ[M]. In this article, we prove that if M is a finitely generated self-projective generator in σ[M], then M is a Noetherian QF-module if and only if every module in σ[M] is a direct sum of a projective module in σ[M] and a δ-M-small module. As a generalization of a Harada module, a module M is called a δ-Harada module if every injective module in σ[M] is δ M -lifting. Some properties of δ-Harada modules are investigated and a characterization of a Harada module is also obtained.  相似文献

Let M and N be right R-modules. Hom(M, N) is called regular if for each f ∈ Hom(M, N), there exists g ∈ Hom(N, M) such that f = fgf. Let [M, N] = Hom R (M, N). We prove that if M is finitely generated, then [M, N] is regular if and only if every homomorphism M → N is locally split. In this article, we also study the substructures of Hom(M, N) such as the Jacobson radical J[M, N], the singular ideal Δ[M, N], and the co-singular ideal ?[M, N]. We prove several new results. The question is to characterize when the Jacobson radical is equal to the singular ideal Δ[M, N] or the co-singular ideal ?[M, N] under injectivity and projectivity.  相似文献

Let R be a ring with identity and let M be a unital left R-module. A proper submodule L of M is radical if L is an intersection of prime submodules of M. Moreover, a submodule L of M is isolated if, for each proper submodule N of L, there exists a prime submodule K of M such that N ? K but L ? K. It is proved that every proper submodule of M is radical (and hence every submodule of M is isolated) if and only if N ∩ IM = IN for every submodule N of M and every (left primitive) ideal I of R. In case, R/P is an Artinian ring for every left primitive ideal P of R it is proved that a finitely generated submodule N of a nonzero left R-module M is isolated if and only if PN = N ∩ PM for every left primitive ideal P of R. If R is a commutative ring, then a finitely generated submodule N of a projective R-module M is isolated if and only if N is a direct summand of M.  相似文献

Montgomery's algorithm [8], hereafter denotedM n(...,...), is a process for computingM n (A, B)=ABN modn whereN is a constant factor depending only onn.Usually,A B modn is obtained byM n (M n (A, B),N –2 modn) but in this article, we introduce an alternative approach consisting in pre-integratingN into cryptographic keys so that a singleM n(...,...) will replace directly each modular multiplication.Except the advantage of halving the number of Montgomery multiplications, our strategy skips the precalculation (and the storage) of the constantN –2 modn and turns to be particularly efficient when a hardware device implementingM n(...,...) is the basic computational tool at one's command.  相似文献

Let M and N be two compact Riemannian manifolds. Let uk be a sequence of stationary harmonic maps from M to N with bounded energies. We may assume that it converges weakly to a weakly harmonic map u in H1,2 (M, N) as k → ∞. This paper continues recent work on N-summations (see [8, 9, 12]). More specifically, it addresses the issue of existence of N-summations both for cone semirings and for prenormed semitopological semimodules. In the case of a cone semiring C we assume N-order completeness plus compatibility of N-joins with addition and multiplication to make the class of summarily bounded elements of C N into an N-summation for C. In the case of a prenormed semitopological semimodule M we use certain completeness properties of semitopologies on M to make the class of Cauchy elements of M N into an N-summation for M. Results on semitopologies and their connection with closure operators are contained in the Appendix.  相似文献

Summary Previous results in the theory of large deviations for additive functionals of a diffusion process on a compact manifold M are extended and then applied to the analysis of the Lyapunov exponents of a stochastic flow of diffeomorphisms of M. An approximation argument relates these results to the behavior near the diagonal Δ in M 2 of the associated two point motion. Finally it is shown, under appropriate non-degeneracy conditions, that the two-point motion is ergodic on M 2-Δ if the top Lyapunov exponent is positive. At the period when this research was initiated, both authors where guests of the I.M.A. in Minneapolis. The first author was at Aberdeen University, Scotland when this article was prepared. The Nayatani metric g N is a Riemannian metric on a Kleinian manifold M which is compatible with the standard flat conformal structure. It is known that, for M corresponding to a geometrically finite Kleinian group, g N has large symmetry: the isometry group of (M, g N ) coincides with the conformal transformation group of M. In this paper, we prove that this holds for a larger class of M. In particular, this class contains such M that correspond to Kleinian groups of divergence type.   相似文献

Let M be a CR manifold embedded in ?s of arbitrary codimension. M is called generic if the complex hull of the tangent space in all points of M is the whole ?s. M is minimal (in sense of Tumanov) in p ? M if there does not exist any CR submanifold of M passing through p with the same CR dimension as M but of smaller dimension. Let M be generic and minimal in some point p ? M and N be a generic submanifold of M passing through p. We prove that a continuous CR function on M vanishes identically in some neigbourhood of p if its restriction to N either vanishes in p faster then some function with non-integrable logarithm or it vanishes on a subset of N of positive measure.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are given, in module-theoretic terms, for the idealN(S) of the endomorphism ringS of a moduleM consisting of the endomorphisms with essential kernel to be nilpotent. This extends in a natural way several known results on the nilpotency ofN(S). WhenM is a quasi-injective module such thatS is right noetherian, it is shown thatS is right artinian if and only ifM has a finite rational Loewy series whose length is, in this case, equal to the index of nilpotency ofN(S). Generally it is unknown, whether or not ∞ is a Weierstrass point on the modular curve X 0(N) if N is squarefree. A classical result of Atkin and Ogg states that ∞ is not a Weierstrass point on X 0(N), if N=pM with p prime, p M and the genus of X 0(M) zero. We use results of Kohnen and Weissauer to show that there is a connection between this question and the p-adic valuation of cusp forms under the Atkin–Lehner involution. This gives, in a sense, a generalization of Ogg’s Theorem in some cases.   相似文献

A module M is said to be square free if whenever its submodule is isomorphic to N2 = NN for some module N, then N = 0. Dually, a module M is said to be d-square free (dual square free) if whenever its factor module is isomorphic to N2 for some module N, then N = 0. In this paper, we give some fundamental properties of d-square free modules and study rings whose d-square free modules are closed under submodules or essential extensions.  相似文献
