The light propagating characteristics of the coupled-resonator optical waveguides (CROWs) are studied by the finite-difference time-domain method. The circular CROWs are constructed by arranging the micro-cavities at a certain distance, which is constructed by removing the air holes along the edge of a circle from a two-dimensional (2D) triangular-lattice photonic crystal (PC). With the increasing of distance between the adjacent cavities, the group velocities of the guiding modes reduce significantly. The circular CROW studied in the paper have much minibands within the band gap, and their respective group velocities can be quite different from each other. This kind of CROW structure can provide different group velocities for the light signals with different frequencies, and avails to the separating and controlling the light signals in the all optic integrated circuits. 相似文献

Negative refraction and imaging properties of the electromagnetic wave through a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) slab, which consists of a square lattice of elliptical dielectric rods immersed in the air background, is studied by the plane-wave expansion method and the finite-difference time-domain method. A point source placed in the vicinity of the PC slab can form a good-quality image spot through the PC slab for the incident frequencies within the second photonic band. The calculated result also shows that negative refraction occurs in this kind of PC slab. 相似文献

One-dimensional porous silicon (PSi) photonic quantum-well structures have been electrochemically fabricated and spectroscopically
characterized. The photonic well in the structure is a photonic crystal (PC) consisting of alternately stacked high- and low-refractive-index
PSi layers. Discrete states are observed in both reflectance and transmission spectra. It is found that the number of confined
states appearing in the photonic bandgap of the photonic barrier depends on the number of periods adopted in the well PC.
Thus, increased confined photonic states can be created simply by increasing the number of periods of the well PC in the structures.

Deliberately introducing defects into photonic crystals is an important way to functionalize the photonic crystals. We prepare a special large-scale three-dimensional(3D) photonic crystal(PC) with designed defects by an easy and low-cost method. The defect layer consists of photoresist strips or air-core strips. Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) shows that the 3D PC is of good quality and the defect layer is uniform. Different defect states shown in the ultraviolet-visible spectra are induced by the photoresist strip layer and air-core strip layer. The special large-scale 3D PC can be tested for integrated optical circuits, and the defects can act as optical waveguides. 相似文献

利用表面光子晶体能大幅提高发光二极管(LED)的外量子效率, 但如何制备大面积的纳米光子晶体是该研究方向的主要难点之一. 本文基于纳米压印技术在氮化镓基发光二极管(GaN-LED)表面制作孔状二维光子晶体. 通过以金属和聚合物双层掩膜干法刻蚀法, 得到了很好的光子晶体图形转移效果. 最终在LED的p-GaN层表面获得了大面积光子晶体, 周期为450 nm, 纳米孔直径为240 nm. 器件测试结果显示, 有表面光子晶体的LED比没有光子晶体的LED, 光致发光强度峰值提高到了7.2倍. 相似文献

Fractional density of states(FDOS) hinders the accurate measuring of the overall spontaneous emission(SE)control ability of a three-dimensional(3 D) photonic crystal(PC) with the current widely used SE decay lifetime measurement systems. Based on analyzing the FDOS property of a 3 D PC from theory and simulation,the excitation focal spot position averaged FDOS with a distribution broadening parameter was proposed to accurately reflect the overall SE control ability of the 3 D PC. Experimental work was done to confirm that our proposal is effective, which can contribute to comprehensively characterizing the SE control performance of photonic devices with quantified parameters. 相似文献

We introduce a design procedure for hollow-core photonic bandgap (PBG) fiber with a cladding made of air-silica honeycomb photonic crystal (PC). It is found that air-guiding can be realized in both fundamental and secondary PBG regions of the cladding PC. Dispersion and radiation loss of the fundamental mode for two types of fiber structure are theoretically calculated. The fibers show promising waveguiding ability. 相似文献

We theoretically studied a left-hand structure based on a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal (PC)with a negative refractive index. The propagation of electromagnetic waves in the proposed PC structure is investigated through dispersion characteristic analysis and numerical simulation of field pattern. The designed PC structure can exhibit all angle negative refraction, and the corresponding effective refractive indices along all directions are almost same and close to the ideal value of -1. A flat lens formed from such a PC has been designed and its imaging properties have been investigated systematically. 相似文献

研究了二维光子晶体量子阱的光谱特性,该量子阱结构由二维正方晶格圆柱晶胞光子晶体通过移去中间位置的介质圆柱层形成。由于光子晶体中的光子禁带充当了光子运动的势垒,类似于半导体量子阱中电子的行为,在光子晶体量子阱结构中会出现量子化的光子能态。文章利用平面波展开法计算了所用光子晶体的能带结构,利用传输矩阵方法计算了量子阱结构的透射光谱。计算结果表明,在光子禁带中出现了离散的透射峰,透射峰的强度随着势垒宽度的增加而减弱,个数随着势阱宽度的增加而增加,通过计算得到了其定量关系,并且讨论了透射峰频率与势阱宽度的关系。 相似文献

设计了一种缺陷模迁移光子晶体微腔全光开关. 两条二维三角晶格空气孔光子晶体波导由一个光子晶体微腔连接, 在微腔的点缺陷中填充掺有少量偶氮聚合物的苯乙炔类液晶. 通过调节控制光的偏振态, 使偶氮聚合物发生顺-反异构化反应, 带动液晶分子重新取向, 从而改变光子晶体微腔的谐振波长, 进而实现光的通过与截止. 运用时域有限差分法和平面波展开法分析 了二维光控液晶光子晶体微腔全光开关的光学特性. 数值计算结果表明: 对于1.55 μ通信波段通过外界偏振光控制所填充的向列相液晶 的折射率可以实现对光波的导通与截止. 分析结果显示, 此开关具有阈值低, 消光比较大, 体积小等优点.

The oblique propagation of light through a layer of chiral photonic crystal (PC) with linear profiles of modulation parameters is considered. The problem is solved by the method of Ambartsumyan layer addition. The wavelength dependences of the amplitude characteristics have been studied at different angles of incidence in two cases, i.e., in a chiral PC with a linear profile of modulation period and a chiral PC with a linear profile of modulation depth. It is shown that the photonic band gap is broadened in both cases and that omnidirectional reflection occurs under certain conditions. The nonreciprocity features are investigated for these two cases and it is shown that a chiral PC with a linear profile of modulation period can operate as an ideal optical diode in a certain frequency range. The features of the effect of change in the modulation parameters on the photon density of states, group velocity, and group velocity dispersion are analyzed. It is shown that, when the modulation parameters change in space, the photon density of states at the photonic band gap edges significantly decreases. It is proposed to use PCs with a spatially changing modulation period can be used to compress (expand) light pulses. 相似文献

与介质柱型光子晶体相比,空气孔光子晶体更易于制作和集成而更有应用价值.采用平面波展开法证实了填充液晶的二维三角形分布的空气孔光子晶体方向能隙的可调节性.数值模拟结果表明:1)通过外界电场控制空气孔中所填充的相列液晶的方向可以对光子晶体的方向能隙进行调节,这种可调节性可用于制作场敏偏光片.这与Liu等人研究介质柱型光子晶体的结论相类似;2)用phenylacetylene型液晶替代5CB液晶作为填充物质所得到的空气孔光子晶体偏光片可使用的频率范围显著增大.在此基础上,还研究了填充液晶的光子晶体波导传输谱线的可调节性对特定波长的光切断和开通控制的原理,实现了与以往光开关原理不同的光子晶体光开关.

induced transparency (EIT) medium and a common dielectric medium, can be dramatically changed by tuning the coupling field
intensity (or coupling Rabi frequency, CRF) of the EIT medium. It is found that for a probe light at a fixed frequency, either
positive or negative refraction in the EIT PC can be realized with a proper CRF. The behavior of a Gaussian beam (probe light)
obliquely incident on such an EIT PC slab is simulated numerically. The probe light beam transmitted from the slab can be
shifted transversely in a large range, and negative refraction enhances this effect. The present scenario can be applied in

We propose a novel directional emitter for achieving highly efficient beaming of self-collimated light from two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC). The structure is composed of a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal and two-layer dielectric rods. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations show that the emission properties are sensitive to the distance between photonic crystal and two-layer dielectric rods. We propose an improved photonic crystal (PC) cladding design for existing air-guiding photonic bandgap (PBG) fibers whose cladding airholes are arranged in a triangular lattice pattern. By increasing the sizes of concentrated silica regions in the cladding PC, we can have a larger degree of freedom in controlling the cladding bandgap regions. We predict that a fiber made from this type of cladding would perform better in terms of the PBG-guiding wavelength range, radiation loss owing to finite cladding size, and the ability to avoid surface mode problems. 相似文献
