For our proposed composite parity-conserved matrix product state (MPS), if only a spin block length is larger than 1, any two such spin blocks have correlation including classical correlation and quantum correlation. Both the total correlation and the classical correlation become larger than that in any subcomponent; while the quantum correlations of the two nearest-neighbor spin blocks and the two next-nearest-neighbor spin blocks become smaller and for other conditions the quantum correlation becomes larger, i.e., the increase or the production of the long-range quantum correlation is at the cost of reducing the short-range quantum correlation, which deserves to be investigated in the future; and the ration of the quantum correlation to the total correlation monotonically decreases to a steady value as the spacing spin length increasing.

We give a new thought for constructing long-range quantum correlation in quantum many-body systems. Our proposed composite parity-conserved matrix product state has long-range quantum correlation only for two spin blocks where their spin-block length larger than 1 compared to any subsystem only having short-range quantum correlation, and we investigate quantum correlation properties of two spin blocks varying with environment parameter and spacing spin number. We also find that the geometry quantum discords of two nearest-neighbor spin blocks and two next-nearest-neighbor spin blocks become smaller and for other conditions the geometry quantum discord becomes larger than that in any subcomponent, i.e., the increase or the production of the long-range quantum correlation is at the cost of reducing the short-range quantum correlation compared to the corresponding classical correlation and total correlation having no any characteristic of regulation. For nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor all the correlations take their maximal values at the same points, while for other conditions no whether for spacing same spin number or for different spacing spin numbers all the correlations taking their maximal values are respectively at different points which are very close. We believe that our work is helpful to comprehensively and deeply understand the organization and structure of quantum correlation especially for long-range quantum correlation of quantum many-body systems; and further helpful for the classification, the depiction and the measure of quantum correlation of quantum many-body systems.

For matrix product states(MPSs) of one-dimensional spin-\(\frac {1}{2}\) chains, we investigate a new kind of conventional quantum phase transition(QPT). We find that the system has two different ferromagnetic phases; on the line of the two ferromagnetic phases coexisting equally, the system in the thermodynamic limit is in an isolated mediate-coupling state described by a paramagnetic state and is in the same state as the renormalization group fixed point state, the expectation values of the physical quantities are discontinuous, and any two spin blocks of the system have the same geometry quantum discord(GQD) within the range of open interval (0,0.25) and the same classical correlation(CC) within the range of open interval (0,0.75) compared to any phase having no any kind of correlation. We not only realize the control of QPTs but also realize the control of quantum correlation of quantum many-body systems on the critical line by adjusting the environment parameters, which may have potential application in quantum information fields and is helpful to comprehensively and deeply understand the quantum correlation, and the organization and structure of quantum correlation especially for long-range quantum correlation of quantum many-body systems.

We study the time evolution of entanglement in a new quantum version of the Kac ring, where two spin chains become dynamically entangled by quantum gates, which are used instead of the classical markers. The features of the entanglement evolution are best understood by using knowledge about the behavior of an ensemble of classical Kac rings. For instance, the recurrence time of the quantum many-body system is twice the length of the chain and “thermalization” only occurs on time scales much smaller than the dimension of the Hilbert space. The model thus elucidates the relation between the results of measurements in quantum and classical systems: While in classical systems repeated measurements are performed over an ensemble of systems, the corresponding result is obtained by measuring the same quantum system prepared in an appropriate superposition repeatedly.

Entanglement versus correlations in spin systems
We consider pure quantum states of N>1 spins or qubits and study the average entanglement that can be localized between two separated spins by performing local measurements on the other individual spins. We show that all classical correlation functions provide lower bounds to this localizable entanglement, which follows from the observation that classical correlations can always be increased by doing appropriate local measurements on the other qubits. We analyze the localizable entanglement in familiar spin systems and illustrate the results on the hand of the Ising spin model, in which we observe characteristic features for a quantum phase transition such as a diverging entanglement length.

A general technique of exact calculation of any correlation functions for the special class of one-dimensional spin models containing small clusters of quantum spins assembled to a chain by alternating with the single Ising spins is proposed. The technique is a natural generalization of that in the models solved by a classical transfer matrix. The general expressions for corresponding matrix operators which are the key components of the technique are obtained. As it is clear from the general principles, the decay of the correlation functions of various types is explicitly shown to be governed by a single correlation length. The technique is illustrated by two examples: symmetric diamond chain and asymmetric sawtooth chain.

We propose a scheme for using an unmodulated and unmeasured spin chain as a channel for short distance quantum communications. The state to be transmitted is placed on one spin of the chain and received later on a distant spin with some fidelity. We first obtain simple expressions for the fidelity of quantum state transfer and the amount of entanglement sharable between any two sites of an arbitrary Heisenberg ferromagnet using our scheme. We then apply this to the realizable case of an open ended chain with nearest neighbor interactions. The fidelity of quantum state transfer is obtained as an inverse discrete cosine transform and as a Bessel function series. We find that in a reasonable time, a qubit can be directly transmitted with better than classical fidelity across the full length of chains of up to 80 spins. Moreover, our channel allows distillable entanglement to be shared over arbitrary distances.

We compute quantum dissonance Q (non-entangled quantum correlation), entanglement E, quantum discord D (total quantum correlation) and classical correlation C for spin pairs at any distance in the infinite XY spin-1/2 chains, i.e., the anisotropic XY model and the isotropic XY model with three-spin interactions. We obtain two simple dominance relations: C ≥ E and D ≥ E + Q Except this, there are no other simple ordering relations between them. We also show that Q can detect the special points of the system where the entanglement just appears or completely disappears. In addition, it is worthwhile to mention that dissonance and classical correlation can also clearly spotlight the critical points of quantum phase transitions in XY spin-1/2 chains.

The spin-1/2 Ising–Heisenberg tetrahedral chain is exactly solved using its local gauge symmetry (the total spin of the Heisenberg bonds is locally conserved) and the transfer-matrix approach. Exact results derived for spin–spin correlation functions are employed to obtain the frustration temperature. In addition, we have exactly calculated a concurrence quantifying thermal entanglement. It is shown that the frustration and threshold temperature coincide at sufficiently low temperatures, while they exhibit a very different behavior in the high-temperature region when tending towards completely different asymptotic limits. The threshold temperature additionally shows a notable reentrant behavior when it extends over a narrow temperature region above the classical ground state without any quantum correlations.

We introduce a Monte Carlo method, as a modification of existing cluster algorithms, which allows simulations directly on systems of infinite size, and for quantum models also at beta = infinity. All two-point functions can be obtained, including dynamical information. When the number of iterations is increased, correlation functions at larger distances become available. Limits q-->0 and omega-->0 can be approached directly. As examples we calculate spectra for the d = 2 Ising model and for Heisenberg quantum spin ladders with two and four legs.

Conservation of the total isotopic spin S of a two-component Bose gas-such as 87Rb-has a dramatic impact on the structure of the ground state. In the case when S is much smaller than the total number of particles N, the condensation of each of the two components occurs into at least two single-particle modes. The quantum wave function of such a ground state is a quantum superposition of the phase separated classical condensates, the most "probable" state in the superposition corresponding to the classical ground state in the sector of given N and S.

Recently obtained results on the quantum “grid” of mean values of observables in the energy representation for the maser model is here compared with the classical results calculated via the microcanonical mean values using the classical hamiltonian. Our main result is the evidence that such comparison does work for all regimes from regular to chaotic (but not necessarily ergodic). We show evidences that such quantum fluctuation around the classical average depend on the oscillations of the size and the position of the classical stable region merged in the chaotic sea. Also, depending on the choice of the observable being associated to compact phase space (spin) or infinite phase space (boson) the spreading around the mean can become larger or smaller.

We derive explicit expressions for quantum discord and classical correlation for an X structure density matrix. Based on the characteristics of the expressions, the quantum discord and the classical correlation are easily obtained and compared under different initial conditions using a novel analytical method. We explain the relationships among quantum discord, classical correlation, and entanglement, and further find that the quantum discord is not always larger than the entanglement measured by concurrence in a general two-qubit X state. The new method, which is different from previous approaches, has certain guiding significance for analysing quantum discord and classical correlation of a two-qubit X state, such as a mixed state.

Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chains with various spin values (S=1/2,1,3/2,2,5/2) are studied numerically with the quantum Monte-Carlo method. Effective spin S chains are realized by ferromagnetically coupling n=2S antiferromagnetic spin chains with S=1/2. The temperature dependence of the uniform susceptibility, the staggered susceptibility, and the static structure factor
peak intensity are computed down to very low temperatures, . The correlation length at each temperature is deduced from numerical measurements of the instantaneous spin-spin correlation
function. At high temperatures, very good agreement with exact results for the classical spin chain is obtained independent
of the value of S. For the S=2 chain which has a gap , the correlation length and the uniform susceptibility in the temperature range are well predicted by the semi-classical theory of Damle and Sachdev.

We investigate the quantum speed limit (QSL) time of an electronic spin coupled to a bath of nuclear spins. We consider three types of initial states with different correlations between the system and bath, i.e., quantum correlation, classical correlation, and no any correlation. Interestingly, we show that the QSL times of the central spin for these three types of initial correlations are identical when the couplings are homogeneous. However, it is remarkable different for inhomogenous couplings. The QSL time of the central spin is sensitive to the initial states, the average coupling strength, the distribution of the couplings between the system and bath and the number of the nuclear spins in the bath. Furthermore, we find that the coherence in the initial state has significant influences on the QSL time of the system, and can lead to the increase of QSL time for homogeneous couplings.

This article reviews efforts to build a new type of quantum device, which combines an ensemble of electronic spins with long coherence times, and a small-scale superconducting quantum processor. The goal is to store over long times arbitrary qubit states in orthogonal collective modes of the spin-ensemble, and to retrieve them on-demand. We first present the protocol devised for such a multi-mode quantum memory. We then describe a series of experimental results using NV (as in nitrogen vacancy) center spins in diamond, which demonstrate its main building blocks: the transfer of arbitrary quantum states from a qubit into the spin ensemble, and the multi-mode retrieval of classical microwave pulses down to the single-photon level with a Hahn-echo like sequence. A reset of the spin memory is implemented in-between two successive sequences using optical repumping of the spins.

We establish a connection between ground states of local quantum Hamiltonians and thermal states of classical spin systems. For any discrete classical statistical mechanical model in any spatial dimension, we find an associated quantum state such that the reduced density operator behaves as the thermal state of the classical system. We show that all these quantum states are unique ground states of a universal 5-body local quantum Hamiltonian acting on a (polynomially enlarged) qubit system on a 2D lattice. The only free parameters of the quantum Hamiltonian are coupling strengths of two-body interactions, which allow one to choose the type and dimension of the classical model as well as the interaction strength and temperature. This opens the possibility to study and simulate classical spin models in arbitrary dimension using a 2D quantum system.
