Abstract: | Interactions between microporous PVdF and polar liquid electrolytes have been investigated. PVdF separators are an attractive alternative to microporous apolar polyolefins, such as polyethylene, whose poor wetting by these electrolytes induces a significant resistivity increase in lithium batteries. The swelling study of polymer/electrolyte interactions has shown that the resistivity increase induced by microporous PVdF is moderate and will enable the electrolyte composition to be optimized. Existence of a shut-down effect is an asset for the battery safety. |
