The direct fabrication of fully transparent conical nanocarbon structures (CNCSs) of controlled nanoscopic dimension on a flexible nafion substrate was achieved, using field electron source, by a novel room temperature ion irradiation technique. By controlling the sizes (below the wavelength of visible light) of the CNCSs, the transparency of the substrate can be tailored satisfactorily. The transparency of the CNCSs was observed to be around 90% in the visible regime depending on the ion irradiation time. Our results suggest that the direct fabrication of well controlled fully transparent CNCSs on any transparent and flexible substrate at room temperature could open a novel route for potential applications in future highly transparent, flexible (bendable), low weight and portable field emission displays (FEDs). The structural evolutions of high‐energy (50 MeV) lithium ion (Li3+) irradiated undoped semi‐insulating GaAs (SI‐GaAs) and chromium‐doped SI‐GaAs (GaAs:Cr) were investigated by Raman measurements. It is shown that high‐energy Li3+ irradiation causes amorphization beyond a fluence of 3 × 1013 ions/cm2 in undoped SI‐GaAs. Interestingly, the same fluence of ions does not seem to affect the crystallinity in GaAs:Cr appreciably. The effect of ion irradiation on the change in lattice ordering and anharmonicity of the phonon modes of undoped SI‐GaAs and GaAs:Cr is also compared. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

Multifunctional substrates with superhydrophobic and biocidal properties are gaining interest for a wide range of applications; however, the production of such surfaces remains challenging. Here, the sonochemical method is utilized to impart superhydrophobicity and antimicrobial properties to a polyethylene (PE) sheet. This is achieved by sonochemically depositing nanoparticles (NPs) of a hydrophobic fluoro-polymer (FP) on the PE sheets. The polymer is a flexible, transparent fluoroplastic composed of tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene and vinylidene fluoride in the form of a powder. The NPs of polymers are generated and deposited on the surface of the PE using ultrasound irradiation. Optimizing the process results in a homogeneous distribution of 110–200 nm of NPs on the PE surface. The coated surface displays a water-contact angle of 160°, indicating excellent superhydrophobicity. This superhydrophobic surface shows high stability under outdoor conditions for two months, which is essential for various applications. In addition, metal-oxide nanoparticles (CuO or ZnO NPs) were integrated into the polymer coating to achieve antibacterial properties and increase the surface roughness. The metal oxides were also deposited sonochemically. The antibacterial activity of the FP@ZnO and FP@CuO PE composites was tested against the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, and the results show that the FP@CuO PE can effectively eradicate the bacteria. This study highlights the feasibility of using the sonochemical method to deposit two separate functions, opening up new possibilities for producing “smart” novel surfaces. 相似文献

A series of superhydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) surfaces were prepared by a facile cold pressing and sintering method, and their microstructures and wetting behaviors could be artificially tailored by altering sintering temperature and using different masks. Specifically, the microstructures mainly depended on the sintering temperature, whereas the wetting behaviors, water contact angle (WCA) and sliding angle (SA), greatly hinged on both the sintering temperature and mask. Then a preferable superhydrophobic surface with WCA of 162 ± 2° and SA of 7° could be obtained when the sintering temperature was 360 °C and the 1000 grit abrasive paper was used as a mask. In addition, it was worth noting that the as-prepared surfaces exhibited excellent stability under UV illumination, which was the most key factor for them toward practical applications. 相似文献

Fe film (∼50 nm) have been deposited on pSi substrate by electron beam evaporation technique. The bilayers have been irradiated by 100 MeV Fe7+ ions having fluences of 1 × 1013, 1 × 1014 and 5 × 1014 ions cm−2. SEM study of the unirradiated devices show surface modifications having a annular structures. From XRD study of the bilayer, it is observed that grain size has reduced from 70 to 25 nm after the irradiation for a fluence of 1 × 1014 ions cm−2. Moreover electronic transport data of the bilayer show practically no effect on the current flow for a fluence of 1 × 1013 ions cm−2 irradiation whereas for 1 × 1014 ions cm−2 fluence, there is very significant change in current flow (by two orders in magnitude) across the bilayer. However, for a higher fluence of irradiation 5 × 1014 ions cm−2, the bilayer becomes highly resistive. It has been found from the above observations that the fluence of 1 × 1014 ions cm−2 of swift heavy ion irradiation is a optimum fluence. 相似文献

Effect of Ar ion irradiation on the room temperature ferromagnetism of undoped and Cu-doped rutile TiO_2 single crystals 下载免费PDF全文
Remarkable room-temperature ferromagnetism was observed both in undoped and Cu-doped rutile TiO_2 single crystals(SCs).To tune their magnetism,Ar ion irradiation was quantitatively performed on the two crystals in which the saturation magnetizations for the samples were enhanced distinctively. The post-irradiation led to a spongelike layer in the near surface of the Cu-doped TiO_2.Meanwhile,a new CuO-like species present in the sample was found to be dissolved after the post-irradiation.Analyzing the magnetization data unambiguously reveals that the experimentally observed ferromagnetism is related to the intrinsic defects rather than the exotic Cu ions, while these ions are directly involved in boosting the absorption in the visible region. 相似文献

Forest‐like ZnO hierarchical structures were synthesized on the conductive fabric substrate via a simple one‐step electrochemical deposition process. By applying externally a high cathodic voltage to the samples, ZnO microrods were aligned on the seed coated layer and then ZnO branches were formed on the pillars of ZnO microrods, which was caused by the strong deposition potential between the pillars of ZnO microrods and the Zn2+ dissolved in growth solution. At the external cathodic voltage of –3 V, the optimized forest‐like ZnO hierarchical structures exhibited high density, high porosity, and good crystallinity. These fabricated forest‐like ZnO hierarchical structures are potentially useful for electronic and chemical sensing applications. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim) 相似文献

Fabrication of transparent and flexible carbon‐doped ZnO field emission display on plastic substrate 下载免费PDF全文
Transparent and flexible carbon doped ZnO (C:ZnO) field emission device was successfully fabricated on an arylite substrate. Excellent adhesion of deposited C:ZnO on the flexible substrate was achieved with low sputtering power and Ar flow rate. In the fabricated device, nanostructured C:ZnO and as‐deposited thin films were used as field emitter and phosphor screen, respectively. The C:ZnO thin film showed a transparency of about 80% at 550 nm wavelength and average sheet resistance of 1.96 kΩ/□. The C:ZnO phosphor screen emitted red light during the field emission measurement, correlating the dominant cathodoluminescence peak at 646 nm. Thus, a promising transparent and flexible field emission display can be realized with C:ZnO based material.

A new method for fabricating carbon nanotube‐conducting polymer (CNT‐CP) composite single nanowires is reported. The method developed is highly efficient, reliable, and economical because it obviates the time consuming process of template fabrication and the post‐synthesis task of positioning nanowires. Single nanowires with diameters of 50‐500 nm are fabricated between electrodes, self‐templated by dielectrophoresis and electropolymerization. Fabrication of an individually addressed nanowire array with cantilever electrodes on a microchip is demonstrated.

The paper describes a novel transmission electron microscopy (TEM) experiment with in situ ion irradiation designed to improve and validate a computer model. TEM thin foils of molybdenum were irradiated in situ by 1?MeV Kr ions up to ~0.045 displacements per atom (dpa) at 80°C at three dose rates ?5?×?10?6, 5?×?10?5, and 5?×?10?4?dpa/s – at the Argonne IVEM-Tandem Facility. The low-dose experiments produced visible defect structure in dislocation loops, allowing accurate, quantitative measurements of defect number density and size distribution. Weak beam dark-field plane-view images were used to obtain defect density and size distribution as functions of foil thickness, dose, and dose rate. Diffraction contrast electron tomography was performed to image defect clusters through the foil thickness and measure their depth distribution. A spatially dependent cluster dynamic model was developed explicitly to model the damage by 1?MeV Kr ion irradiation in an Mo thin foil with temporal and spatial dependence of defect distribution. The set of quantitative data of visible defects was used to improve and validate the computer model. It was shown that the thin foil thickness is an important variable in determining the defect distribution. This additional spatial dimension allowed direct comparison between the model and experiments of defect structures. The defect loss to the surfaces in an irradiated thin foil was modeled successfully. TEM with in situ ion irradiation of Mo thin foils was also explicitly designed to compare with neutron irradiation data of the identical material that will be used to validate the model developed for thin foils. 相似文献

We have investigated ion desorption from adsorbed methane following keV He+ ion irradiation. The thickness of the adsorbed layer was precisely controlled. For mono-layered methane, only monomer ions (CHx+) were desorbed by 1 keV He+ ion irradiation. On the other hand, a large number of cluster ions (CnHx+) up to n = 20 were desorbed from multi-layered film. Among cluster ions, molecular ions with CC bonds were found, which indicates that chemical bonds are newly formed by ion irradiation. Based on the results for thickness dependences of the mass spectral patterns, it was elucidated that the monomer ions are desorbed from the top surface layer through single electron excitation. While the cluster ions are formed mainly in the inside of the layers along the nuclear track due to the high-density electronic excitation, which is produced by nuclear collision between incident He+ ions and frozen molecules. 相似文献

Carbon/carbon (C/C) composites have been chosen for the conception of the thermal shield of the “Solar Probe” space mission. To understand their behavior under solar aggressions (high temperature and ion irradiation) and know the possible interactions with the shipped-in instruments, these materials are tested in a facility that allows to partially simulate the solar environment and to carry out in situ measurements. The mass loss rate of the materials is recorded and the composition and distribution of the ejected species are followed using an opened source mass spectrometer and a post-treatment XPS analysis of the condensed species on a gold-plated copper target is also performed. Besides this, the sputtering processes of graphite at high temperature and ion irradiation have been theoretically investigated in order to understand the main parameters that can influence the erosion of the material and predict accurately the physico-chemical behavior of the C/C composites. 相似文献

Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with a diameter of 17 nm, and carbon nanoneedles (CNNs) with sharp tips have been synthesized on graphite substrates by ion irradiation of argon ions with the Co supplies rate of 1 and 3.4 nm/min, respectively. Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry, combined with selected area electron diffraction patterns has been used to identify the chemical composition and crystallinity of these carbon nanostructures. The CNFs were found to be amorphous in nature, while the structures of the CNNs consisted of cubic CoCx, orthorhombic Co2C and Co3C depending on the cobalt content in the CNNs. The diameter of the carbide crystals was almost as large as the diameter of the CNN. Compared to the ion-induced nickel carbides and iron carbides, the formation of single-crystalline cobalt carbides might be due to the high temperature produced by the irradiation. 相似文献

Swift heavy ions (SHI) with electronic energy loss exceeding a value of 14.4 keVnm−1 create amorphized latent tracks in YBCO type superconductors. In the low fluence regime of an ion beam where tracks do not overlap, a decrease of the superconducting transition temperature as probed through resistivity studies, is not expected due to availability of percolating current paths. The present study however shows Tc decrease by about 1–3 K in thin films of YBCO when irradiated by 250 MeVAg ions at 79 K at a fluence of 5×1010–1×1012 ionscm−2. The highest fluence used in the present study is three times less than the fluence where track overlapping becomes significant. The Tc tends to increase towards the preirradiation value on annealing the films at room temperature. To explain this unusual result, we consider the effect of ion irradiation in inducing materials modification not only through creation of amorphized latent tracks along the ion path, but also through creation of atomic disorder in the oxygen sublattice in the Cu–O chains of YBCO by the secondary electrons. These electrons are emitted radially from the tracks during the passage of the SHI. Considering the correlation between the charge state of copper and its oxygen coordination, we show in particular that the latter process is a consequence of the inelastic interaction of the SHI induced low-energy secondary electrons with the YBCO lattice, which result in chain oxygen disorder and Tc decrease. 相似文献

Comparison of total dose effects on SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistors induced by different swift heavy ion irradiation 下载免费PDF全文
The degradations in NPN silicon-germanium (SiGe) heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) were fully studied in this work, by means of 25-MeV Si, 10-MeV C1, 20-MeV Br, and 10-MeV Br ion irradiation, respectively. Electrical parameters such as the base current (IB), current gain (β), neutral base recombination (NBR), and Early voltage (VA) were investigated and used to evaluate the tolerance to heavy ion irradiation. Experimental results demonstrate that device degradations are indeed radiation-source-dependent, and the larger the ion nuclear energy loss is, the more the displacement damages are, and thereby the more serious the performance degradation is. The maximum degradation was observed in the transistors irradiated by 10-MeV Br. For 20-MeV and 10-MeV Br ion irradiation, an unexpected degradation in Ic was observed and Early voltage decreased with increasing ion fluence, and NBR appeared to slow down at high ion fluence. The degradations in SiGe HBTs were mainly attributed to the displacement damages created by heavy ion irradiation in the transistors. The underlying physical mechanisms are analyzed and investigated in detail. 相似文献

CR-39 polymer samples were irradiated with 50 MeV lithium ion beam; the fluence was varied in the range 1011–1013 ionscm−2. Irradiation effects were studied using UV–visible, FTIR spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction techniques. The observation of the recorded spectra shows that the detector is sensitive to swift ions irradiation and its UV absorption is influenced by the stopping power (dE/dx)e. The FTIR spectra does not show any considerable changes due to the irradiation indicating that the detector is chemically stable. No appreciable change in the diffraction pattern of CR-39 polymer after irradiation upto the fluence level of 1013 ionscm−2 is observed, showing its structural stability also. 相似文献

Silicon carbide (SiC) single crystals with the 6H polytype structure were irradiated with 4.0-MeV Au ions at room temperature (RT) for increasing fluences ranging from 1?×?1012 to 2?×?1015 cm?2, corresponding to irradiation doses from ~0.03 to 5.3 displacements per atom (dpa). The damage build-up was studied by micro-Raman spectroscopy that shows a progressive amorphization by the decrease and broadening of 6H-SiC lattice phonon peaks and the related growth of bands assigned to Si–Si and C–C homonuclear bonds. A saturation of the lattice damage fraction deduced from Raman spectra is found for ~0.8?dpa (i.e. ion fluence of 3?×?1014 cm?2). This process is accompanied by an increase and saturation of the out-of-plane expansion (also for ~0.8?dpa), deduced from the step height at the sample surface, as measured by phase-shift interferometry. Isochronal thermal annealing experiments were then performed on partially amorphous (from 30 to 90%) and fully amorphous samples for temperatures from 200 °C up to 1500 °C under vacuum. Damage recovery and densification take place at the same annealing stage with an onset temperature of ~200 °C. Almost complete 6H polytype regrowth is found for partially amorphous samples (for doses lower than 0.8 dpa) at 1000 °C, whereas a residual damage and swelling remain for larger doses. In the latter case, these unrelaxed internal stresses give rise to an exfoliation process for higher annealing temperatures. 相似文献

Swift heavy‐ion irradiations of a wide variety of materials have been used to modify and manipulate the properties of solids at the nanoscale. Recently, these high‐energy irradiations have been successfully combined with high‐pressure experiments. Based on results obtained for zircon (ZrSiO4), this paper introduces this new experimental approach involving diamond anvil cells and large ion‐accelerator facilities. This technique provides a wide spectrum of geoscience applications from nanoscale simulations of fission‐track formation under crustal conditions to phase transitions of radiation‐damaged minerals resulting from meteorite impact. 相似文献
