An optical scheme based on Stokes-Mueller formalism and rotating-wave-plate Stokes polarimeter is successfully developed to measure the optical rotation angle in a chiral medium. The average relative error in the measured rotation angle of a half-wave plate is determined to be 1.16%. The average relative error in the measured rotation angles of glucose solutions with concentrations ranging from 0 to 1.2 g/dl is determined to be 3.78%. The correlation coefficient between the measured rotation angle and the glucose concentration is found to be 0.99950, while the standard deviation is just 0.00376°. From the inspection of measured rotation angle in the sol-gel materials containing C17H17ClO6 with concentrations ranging from 0 to 0.0665 g/ml, the average relative error in the measured rotation angles is determined to be 3.63%. Consequently, the derived algorithm for measuring the rotation angle of a chiral medium is feasible, and the developed system is evaluated with a precision of 5.4% approximately in rotation angle measurement.  相似文献

In this study, an optical scheme based on Stokes-Mueller Formalism and rotating wave-plate Stokes polarimeter is successfully developed to simultaneously measure optical rotation angle and retardance. The average relative errors in the measured rotation angle and retardance of a half-wave plate which are solved by nonlinear equations of detected Stokes parameters are determined to be just 0.74% (1.16% for a perfect half-wave plate with retardance of 180°) and 0.40% respectively. The average relative error in the measured rotation angles of glucose solutions with concentrations ranging from 0 to 1.2 g/dl is determined to be 4.53% (2.98% under calibration with sample cell). From the inspection of simultaneous measurement of rotation angle and retardance in a glucose solution followed by a half-wave plate, the average relative error in the measured rotation angles of glucose solutions is determined to be 4.23% (1.81% under calibration with sample cell). The correlation coefficient between the measured rotation angle and the glucose concentration is found to be 0.99966, while the standard deviation is just 0.00357°, and the average relative error in the measured retardance of a half-wave plate is determined to be just 0.47%. Consequently, the derived algorithm for simultaneously measuring rotation angle and retardance is feasible, and the developed system is evaluated with a precision of 10% approximately in rotation angle and a high precision of 0.0032% in retardance measurement.  相似文献

The passage of a linearly polarized beam through a chiral material and a phase retarder will induce a phase difference between the s and p polarizations of the beam. In this study, a phase quadrature interferometer is designed to measure the phase difference variation proportional to the optical rotation. The proportionality constant (or measurement sensitivity) can be greatly enhanced by setting the retardation of the phase retarder close to 0° or 180°. The experimental results demonstrate that with our system we can obtain a measurement resolution for the rotational angle of better than 3.5° × 10−4. This method has several advantages such as a simple optical setup, easier operation in real time, and low cost. In addition, due to the common-path arrangement, surrounding noise can be eliminated.  相似文献

This paper explores the feasible use of circular optical grating for measuring the rotation of mirrors that are commonly found in micro-systems. Both theoretical and experimental results show that distortion of the circular grating that is projected onto the mirror surface is a simple function of the angular rotation of the mirror. The circular grating may readily be generated using a standard Michelson interferometer or an LCD projector. Through manipulating the distance between the interferometer and the mirror surface, the diameter of the optical grating may be varied. Furthermore, the additional use of a converging lens enables a significant reduction in the size of the grating: with simple laboratory facility, small circular grating of about 400 μm is achieved for use on micro-systems. With the use of more sophisticated optical elements, the angular rotation of even smaller micro-mirrors may be measured.  相似文献

A Faraday mirror-typed optical current transformer (OCT) design with turn-back optical paths is proposed to overcome the harmful effects of the linear birefringence inside bulk glass current sensing head, which can double the sensitivity and improve the state of polarization of the system output. The theoretical analysis of the working principle, the simulation of the polarization state of the output light beam and the comparison between it and the OCT with polarization preserving total reflection (PPTR) layers are presented. The results show that this design has a good suppressing effect on the degeneration of the polarization state of the output light, which has certain reference significance on the performance improvement of the present bulk glass OCT, and the development of practical OCTs.  相似文献

 针对目前主流彩色电视与平板显示器,建立了能够溯源到国家光谱辐射度、光度与色度基准的标准白场仪装置,可用于显示器光色特性参数测量。对该装置进行了定标,提供了标准白场仪光谱、稳定性以及光色参数。应用该标准装置对主流的液晶显示器进行了视角研究,主要考虑了测量过程中所忽略的被测发光面积因素对视角特性的影响。结果表明,基于绝对亮度的视角阈值方法,差别可达8%以上,是测量过程中需要考虑和避免的。  相似文献

Slow light supported by electromagnetically induced transparency effect in dispersive medium is extremely susceptible with respect to Doppler detuning.In this paper,the Doppler effect induced by rotating dispersive medium was considered and the effect of the velocity of rotating dispersive medium on the group velocity was studied.Based on a dispersive slow-light medium,a high sensitive optical rotation sensor for measuring absolute rotation is proposed and analysed.The sensitivity of the rotation sensor is the group delay between the counterpropagationed wave packets in the device,and scales directly with square of the group index which can reach 10 2-10 8 orders of magnitude by selecting a proper dispersive medium.  相似文献

Full adders and full subtractors are the basic circuit elements of any digital data processor in electronics as well as in the all optical domain. Again the wavelength dependent encoding/decoding techniques have established itself as a very promising and efficient tool having some inherent and unique advantages relative to the other well known intensity or polarization or phase dependent optical data encoding mechanisms. In this communication, the authors therefore propose a new scheme of implementing a wavelength encoded complete binary full adder-full subtractor unit in the all optical domain using the wavelength conversion by the nonlinear polarization rotation in a single semiconductor optical amplifier. The interacting signals are counter propagating in the semiconductor optical amplifier and hence can be set at the same wavelength. To realize the binary logic wavelength dependent encoding/decoding mechanism is exploited in our proposed scheme of full adder-full subtractor unit. Also the optical add/drop multiplexing employing the special filtering property of the semiconductor optical amplifier is utilized for the designing of the all optical system.  相似文献

A microscopic theory of dispersion of optical activity is constructed for the case of a molecular crystalline multilayer, whose layers varies in width and includes point defects. We substantially rely upon the previously developed phenomenological approach to the same problem. The impact of the drawing process on the stress-induced birefringence in optical fiber is experimentally analyzed. By means of the photoelastic tomographic technique, residual internal stresses are measured in fiber samples drawn under different conditions of temperature, drawing tension and speed. From measured residual stress distributions, the stress-induced birefringence and beatlength are mathematically derived and compared, proving that an effective birefringence reduction can be obtained by a proper choice of drawing parameters.  相似文献

Abstract

Microstructure evolution due to coupled grain boundary migration and grain rotation in low angle grain boundaries is studied through a combination of molecular dynamics and phase field modeling. We have performed two dimensional molecular dynamics simulations on a bicrystal with a circular grain embedded in a larger grain. Both size and orientation of the embedded grain are observed to evolve with time. The shrinking embedded grain is observed to have two regimes: constant dislocation density on the grain boundary followed by constant rate of increase in dislocation density. Based on these observations from the molecular dynamics simulations, a theoretical formulation of the kinetics of coupled grain rotation is developed. The grain rotation rate is derived for the two regimes of constant dislocation density and constant rate of change of dislocation density on the grain boundary during evolution. The theoretical calculation of the grain rotation rate shows strong dependence on the grain size and compares very well with the molecular dynamics simulations. A multi-order parameter based phase field model with coupled grain rotation is developed using the theoretical formulation to model polycrystalline microstructure evolution.  相似文献

A novel common-path polarization modulation and amplitude-sensitive optical heterodyne polarimeter is setup in order to characterize a phase retardation plate (PRP) in real time. The phase retardation ΔΦ and fast-axis angle β of the linear birefringence parameters (LBP) of a PRP are measured simultaneously. Meanwhile, the dynamic ranges of 0° < ΔΦ < 180° and 0° < β < 180° are demonstrated experimentally. In order to measure LBP in real time, a polarization modulation is introduced by continuously rotating the tested PRP such that ΔΦ and β are able to be obtained in terms of the ratio of the amplitudes of S polarization and the ratio of P polarization of the heterodyne signals, respectively. Consequently, this novel method, which combines optical heterodyne interferometry with a polarization modulation technique, not only improves the detection sensitivity, but also provides a real time capability to measure LBP. In addition, the error in the LBP measurement is derived and analyzed.  相似文献

A method for measuring the axial residual stress profile in axisymmetric optical fibers is presented. The procedure is based on integrated photoelasticity and a fringe shifting technique is used to measure the optical retardation. The radial distribution of the axial residual stress is reconstructed using the inverse Abel transform. The paper describes the operating principle, the experimental setup and the results obtained on a multimode fiber are also reported. In a recent paper (Opt. Laser Technol. 34 (2002) 605) Anand and Narayanamurthy described a method for measurement of Faraday rotations using a photorefractive Bi12TiO20. The effects they observed have nothing to do with the source intensity nor with the photorefractive nature of the crystal. The same effect could be obtained without the use of a photorefractive crystal by simple rotation of the analyzer.  相似文献
