Hilbert’s problem on the topology of algebraic curves and surfaces (the sixteenth problem from the famous list presented at the second International Congress of Mathematicians in 1900) was difficult to formulate. The way it was formulated made it difficult to anticipate that it has been solved. In the first part of the paper the history of the sixteenth Hilbert problem and its solution is presented. The second part of the paper traces one of the ways in which tropical geometry emerged. This article is based on the 4th Takagi Lectures that the author delivered at Kyoto University on June 21, 2008.  相似文献

A mistake concerning the ultra LI-ideal of a lattice implication algebra is pointed out, and some new sufficient and necessary conditions for an LI-ideal to be an ultra LI-ideal are given. Moreover, the notion of an LI-ideal is extended to MTL-algebras, the notions of a (prime, ultra, obstinate, Boolean) LI-ideal and an ILI-ideal of an MTL-algebra are introduced, some important examples are given, and the following notions are proved to be equivalent in MTL-algebra: (1) prime proper LI-ideal and Boolean LI-ideal, (2) prime proper LI-ideal and ILI-ideal, (3) proper obstinate LI-ideal, (4) ultra LI-ideal. The results of Kasparov, Connes, Higson, and Loring imply the coincidence of the functors [[qℂ ⊗ K, BK]] = [[C 0(ℝ2) ⊗ K, BK]] for any C*-algebra B; here[[A, B]] denotes the set of homotopy classes of asymptotic homomorphisms from A to B. Inthe paper, this assertion is strengthened; namely, it is shown that the algebras qℂ ⊗ K and C 0(ℝ2) ⊗ K are equivalent in the category whose objects are C*-algebras and morphisms are classes of homotopic asymptotic homomorphisms. Some geometric properties of the obtained equivalence are studied. Namely, the algebras qℂ ⊗ K and C 0(ℝ2) ⊗ K are represented as fields of C*-algebras; it is proved that the equivalence is not fiber-preserving, i.e., is does not take fibers to fibers. It is also proved that the algebras under consideration are not homotopy equivalent.__________Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, vol. 77, no. 5, 2005, pp. 788–796.Original Russian Text Copyright ©2005 by T. In this paper we consider the formally symmetric differential expressionM [.] of any order (odd or even) ≥ 2. We characterise the dimension of the quotient spaceD(T max)/D(T min) associated withM[.] in terms of the behaviour of the determinants det [[f rgs](∞)] where 1 ≤n ≤ (order of the expression +1); here [fg](∞) = lim [fg](x), where [fg](x) is the sesquilinear form in f andg associated withM. These results generalise the well-known theorem thatM is in the limit-point case at ∞ if and only if [fg](∞) = 0 for everyf, g ε the maximal domain Δ associated withM.  相似文献

Given an (H,R)-Lie coalgebra Γ, we construct (H,R T )-Lie coalgebra ΓT through a right cocycle T, where (H,R) is a triangular Hopf algebra, and prove that there exists a bijection between the set of (H,R)-Lie coalgebras and the set of ordinary Lie coalgebras. We also show that if (L, [, ], Δ, R) is an (H,R)-Lie bialgebra of an ordinary Lie algebra then (L T , [, ], ΔT, R T ) is an (H,R T )-Lie bialgebra of an ordinary Lie algebra.  相似文献

We show convergence in variation to a unique stationary state for a class of point processes (respectively, stochastic sequences) with stochastic intensity kernels (respectively, transition probabilities) including the (A,m)-processes of Lindvall [12]. This is done under two basic conditions: first, the random memory of the processes considered is consistent or non-reusable (that is, past information not used at a given time cannot be recalled at a later time) and secondly, the kernels have a deterministic fixed component for which the memory is almost surely finite.  相似文献

We consider the problem of passing to the limit in a sequence of nonlinear elliptic problems. The “limit” equation is known in advance, but it has a nonclassical structure; namely, it contains the p-Laplacian with variable exponent p = p(x). Such equations typically exhibit a special kind of nonuniqueness, known as the Lavrent’ev effect, and this is what makes passing to the limit nontrivial. Equations involving the p(x)-Laplacian occur in many problems of mathematical physics. Some applications are included in the present paper. In particular, we suggest an approach to the solvability analysis of a well-known coupled system in non-Newtonian hydrodynamics (“stationary thermo-rheological viscous flows”) without resorting to any smallness conditions.  相似文献

A continuous revies (s, S) inventory system with renewal demand in which one item is put into operation as an exhibiting piece is analyzed. The lifetime of any operating unit has Erlangian distribution, and on failure is replaced by another one from the stock and the failed item is disposed of. Replenishment of stock is instantaneous. The transient and stationary values of inventory level distribution and the mean reorder rate are obtained using the techniques of semi-regenerative processes. Decision rules for optimums andS that minimize the long-run expected cost rate are derived. The solution for a dual model with the distribution of lifetimes and inter-demand times interchanged is also given.  相似文献

One Setting for All: Metric, Topology, Uniformity, Approach Structure   总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0
For a complete lattice V which, as a category, is monoidal closed, and for a suitable Set-monad T we consider (T,V)-algebras and introduce (T,V)-proalgebras, in generalization of Lawvere's presentation of metric spaces and Barr's presentation of topological spaces. In this lax-algebraic setting, uniform spaces appear as proalgebras. Since the corresponding categories behave functorially both in T and in V, one establishes a network of functors at the general level which describe the basic connections between the structures mentioned by the title. Categories of (T,V)-algebras and of (T,V)-proalgebras turn out to be topological over Set.  相似文献

We introduce the higher order Lipschitz classes Λ r (α) and λ r (α) of periodic functions by means of the rth order difference operator, where r = 1, 2, ..., and 0 < αr. We study the smoothness property of a function f with absolutely convergent Fourier series and give best possible sufficient conditions in terms of its Fourier coefficients in order that f belongs to one of the above classes. In this paper for the M(n)/M(n)/s+GI system, i.e. for a s-server queueing system where the calls in the queue may leave the system due to impatience, we present new asymptotic results for the intensities of calls leaving the system due to impatience and a Markovian system approximation where these results are applied. Furthermore, we present a new proof for the formulae of the conditional density of the virtual waiting time distributions, recently given by Movaghar for the less general M(n)/M/s+GI system. Also we obtain new explicit expressions for refined virtual waiting time characteristics as a byproduct.  相似文献

We prove that if a simplicial complex Δ is shellable, then the intersection lattice L Δ for the corresponding diagonal arrangement is homotopy equivalent to a wedge of spheres. Furthermore, we describe precisely the spheres in the wedge, based on the data of shelling. Also, we give some examples of diagonal arrangements  where the complement is K(π,1), coming from rank-3 matroids. <Emphasis Type="Italic">q</Emphasis>-Besselian Frames in Banach Spaces   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we introduce the concepts of q-Besselian frame and (p, σ)-near Riesz basis in a Banach space, where a is a finite subset of positive integers and 1/p+1/q = 1 with p 〉 1, q 〉 1, and determine the relations among q-frame, p-Riesz basis, q-Besselian frame and (p, σ)-near Riesz basis in a Banach space. We also give some sufficient and necessary conditions on a q-Besselian frame for a Banach space. In particular, we prove reconstruction formulas for Banach spaces X and X^* that if {xn}n=1^∞ C X is a q-Besselian frame for X, then there exists a p-Besselian frame {y&*}n=1^∞ belong to X^* for X^* such that x = ∑n=1^∞ yn^*(x)xn for all x ∈ X, and x^* =∑n=1^∞ x^*(xn)yn^* for all x^* ∈ X^*. Lastly, we consider the stability of a q-Besselian frame for the Banach space X under perturbation. Some results of J. R. Holub, P. G. Casazza, O. Christensen and others in Hilbert spaces are extended to Banach spaces.  相似文献

We give a nearfield-free definition of some finite and infinite incidence systems by means of half-points and half-lines and show that they are projective planes. We determine a planar ternary ring for these planes and use it to determine the full collineation group and to demonstrate some embeddings of these planes among themselves. We show that these planes include all finite regular Hughes planes and many infinite ones. We also show that PG(3, q) embeds in Hu(q 4) (and show infinite versions of this embedding). Let $${\cal Z}$$ and X be Hausdorff real topological vector spaces and let $${\cal L}_b(X,{\cal Z})$$ be the space of continuous linear mappings from X into $${\cal Z}$$ equipped with the topology of bounded convergence. In this paper, we define the (S)+ condition for operators from a nonempty subset of X into $${\cal L}_b(X,{\cal Z})$$ and derive some existence results for vector variational inequalities with operators of the class (S)+. Some applications to vector complementarity problems are given.  相似文献

A mixed-type dual for a nonsmooth multiobjective optimization problem with inequality and equality constraints is formulated. We obtain weak and strong duality theorems for a mixed-type dual without requiring the regularity assumptions and the nonnegativeness of the Lagrange multipliers associated to the equality constraints. We apply also a nonsmooth constraint qualification for multiobjective programming to establish strong duality results. In this case, our constraint qualification assures the existence of positive Lagrange multipliers associated with the vector-valued objective function. We determine the essential spectra of algebraic combinations of Toeplitz operators with continuous symbol and composition operators induced by a class of linear-fractional non-automorphisms of the unit disk. The operators in question act on the Hardy space H2 on the unit disk. Our method is to realize the C*-algebra that they generate as an extension of the compact operators by a concrete C*-algebra whose invertible elements are easily characterized.  相似文献

We study in fairly general measure spaces (X,μ) the (non-linear) potential theory of L^p sub-Markovian semigroups which are given by kernels having a density with respect to the underlying measure. In terms of mapping properties of the operators we provide sufficient conditions for the existence (and regularity) of such densities. We give various (dual) representations for several associated capacities and, in the corresponding abstract Bessel potential spaces, we study the role of the truncation property. Examples are discussed in the case of R^n where abstract Bessel potential spaces can be identified with concrete function spaces.  相似文献

We also prove the delocalization property in cyclic homology and in related theories.  相似文献
