We consider a single product that is, subject to continuous decay, a multivariate demand function of price and time, shortages allowed and completely backlogged in a periodic review inventory system in which the selling price is allowed to adjust upward or downward periodically. The objective of this paper is to determine the periodic selling price and lot-size over multiperiod planning horizon so that the total discount profit is maximized. The proposed model can be used as an add-in optimizer like an advanced planning system in an enterprise resource planning system that coordinates distinct functions within a firm. Particular attention is placed on investigating the effect of periodic pricing jointly with shortages on the total discount profit. The problem is formulated as a bivariate optimization model solved by dynamic programming techniques coupled with an iterative search process. An intensive numerical study shows that the periodic pricing is superior to the fixed pricing in profit maximization. It also clarifies that shortages strategy can be an effective cost control mechanism for managing deterioration inventory.  相似文献

A major part of retail industry deals with items whose freshness declines with time, resulting in lower demand at the same price. The item may later begin to deteriorate, when it is customary to offer discount in order to boost sales. A discounting policy may bring many benefits for the retailer, if correctly chosen. Motivated by this we have developed and analyzed an inventory model when demand for a deteriorating item depends initially only upon its selling price and later also on the freshness condition. We consider general demand function and general deterioration distribution for an inventory model with lost sales shortage. It is shown that net profit is a concave function of the period with positive inventory and conditionally concave function of discount. Important managerial insights obtained from sensitivity analysis suggest some policies counter to those commonly practiced by the retailers while others are in concurrence with the strategies in vogue.  相似文献

In this paper, a deterministic inventory model for deteriorating items with price-dependent demand is developed. The demand and deterioration rates are continuous and differentiable function of price and time, respectively. In addition, we allow for shortages and the unsatisfied demand is partially backlogged at a negative exponential rate with the waiting time. Under these assumptions, for any given selling price, we first develop the criterion for the optimal solution for the replenishment schedule, and prove that the optimal replenishment policy not only exists but also is unique. If the criterion is not satisfied, the inventory system should not be operated. Next, we show that the total profit per unit time is a concave function of price when the replenishment schedule is given. We then provide a simple algorithm to find the optimal selling price and replenishment schedule for the proposed model. Finally, we use numerical examples to illustrate the algorithm.  相似文献

Due to the rapid advance of technology, manufacturers’ marketing models and quickly changing consumer tastes, products such as apparel, clothing accessories and consumer electronics are likely to face the problem of short product life cycles. This study deals with the problem of determining order quantity and multi-discount selling prices for these types of gradually obsolescent products, in which two novel proposals are presented as follows: (1) without considering any exogenous factors that could affect demand, we develop a time-dependent demand model that appropriately portrays an integrated demand behavior associated with the characteristic of obsolescence; (2) we then treat the selling price as an exogenous factor influencing demand and, referring to the linear demand D = α − βp, the effect that “the increase of demand due to price change is linearly correlated with the difference between two consecutive selling prices” is incorporated, so as to make the demand model be a function of both time and selling price. Afterwards, optimization models are hereby formulated to predetermine pricing strategy with a limited number of price changes by maximizing retailer’s profit. As a result, numerical examples illustrate that the multi-discount model indeed provides higher total profit than a single discount one. This is presented along with the result analysis conducted to gain some managerial insights.  相似文献

We consider a manufacturer facing single period inventory planning problem with uncertain demand and multiple options of expediting. The demand comes at a certain time in the future. The manufacturer may order the product in advance with a relatively low cost. She can order additional amount by expediting after the demand is realized. There are a number of expediting options, each of which corresponds to a certain delivery lead time and a unit procurement price. The unit procurement price is decreasing over delivery lead time. The selling price is also decreasing over time. In this paper, we assume that the manufacturer must deliver all products to the customer in a single shipment. The problem can be formulated as a profit maximization problem. We develop structural properties and show how the optimal solution can be identified efficiently. In addition, we compare our model with the classical newsvendor model and obtain a number of managerial insights.  相似文献

We consider a two-stage supply chain with one supplier and one manufacturer. The manufacturer faces a Poisson demand process where the arrival rate depends on the selling price, the announced delivery time, and the delivery reliability defined as the probability of satisfying the announced delivery time. Such a demand model generalizes the works in the literature by simultaneously considering the above three demand sensitivity factors. The main purpose of this paper is to study the equilibrium decisions in the supply chain with an all-unit quantity discount contract. We consider four scenarios regarding whether the leadtime standard, the delivery reliability standard, and the manufacturer’s capacity are endogenous, and whether the manufacturer’s production cost is its private information. We find that an all-unit quantity discount scheme can coordinate the supply chain for most cases. Managerial insights are observed regarding the impact of the three demand sensitivity factors. For example, the breakpoint in an optimal quantity discount contract always increases with the delivery reliability sensitivity under an exogenous delivery reliability, but may decrease under an endogenous delivery reliability; with asymmetric information, a higher variance of the manufacturer’s unit production costs leads to a lower unit wholesale price for the low-cost manufacturer.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to model the effects of wholesale price control on manufacturer’s profit, taking explicitly into account the retailer’s sales motivation and performance. We consider a stylized distribution channel where a manufacturer sells a single kind of good to a single retailer. Wholesale price discounts are assumed to increase the retailer’s motivation thus improving sales. We study the manufacturer’s profit maximization problem as an optimal control model where the manufacturer’s control is the discount on wholesale price and retailer’s motivation is one of the state variables. In particular in the paper we prove that an increasing discount policy is optimal for the manufacturer when the retailer is not efficient while efficient retailers may require to decrease the trade discounts at the end of the selling period. Computational experiments point out how the discount on wholesale price passed by the retailer to the market (pass-through) influences the optimal profit of the manufacturer.  相似文献

We study the effects of demand uncertainty on optimal decisions and the expected profit of a price-setting newsvendor who faces either additive or multiplicative stochastic demand. Our key findings are as follows. (1) A stochastically larger demand may even lead to a smaller order size and a lower profit when price is endogenous. (2) A stochastically larger demand will lead to a higher selling price in general for the additive demand case but to a lower selling price under certain mild conditions for the multiplicative demand case. Moreover, if the larger demand can be represented by a transformation of the lower one, it will lead to a higher expected profit for both demand cases. However, except for the setting with a zero shortage cost, a larger demand may not necessarily result in a higher expected profit in general. (3) Under mild conditions, a less variable demand will lead to a higher and lower selling price for the additive and multiplicative demand case, respectively, and a higher expected profit for both cases.  相似文献

This paper deals with the joint decisions on pricing and replenishment schedule for a periodic review inventory system in which a replenishment order may be placed at the beginning of some or all of the periods. We consider a single product which is subject to continuous decay and a demand which is a function of price and time, without backlogging over a finite planning horizon. The proposed scheme may adjust periodically the selling price upward or downward that makes the pricing policy more responsive to structure changes in supply or demand. The problem is formulated as a dynamic programming model and solved by numerical search techniques. An extensive numerical study is conducted to attend qualitative insights into the structures of the proposed policy and its sensitivity with respect to major parameters. The numerical result shows that the solution generated by the periodic policy outperforms that by the fixed pricing policy in maximizing discount profit.  相似文献

针对有保质期约束的非即时易腐品,零售商可以在产品非腐败阶段和腐败阶段进行差异化定价来调整市场需求。即零售商可以调整产品非腐败阶段的定价策略,使得非即时易腐品在进入腐败阶段之前全部售出;或者在产品腐败阶段降低零售价格以刺激市场需求。因此,在需求依赖价格的假设下,本文研究了零售商关于有保质期约束的非即时易腐品的最优订购与定价决策。通过分析零售商单位时间利润函数的理论性质,得到了零售商的最优订购与定价策略。基于线性和指数型两种需求函数形式进行数值算例,可以发现针对保质期较长或者非腐败阶段较长的易腐品,零售商会延长订货周期来增加销售收入。特别是在指数型需求函数情境下,当市场需求与零售价格高度相关时,零售商更有意愿降价来刺激销量,从而使得易腐品在非腐败阶段内销售完毕。  相似文献

Inventory model for an item is developed in stochastic environment with price-dependent demand over a finite time horizon. Here, probabilistic lead-time is considered and shortages are allowed (if occurs). In any business, placement of an order is normally connected with the advance payment (AP). Again, depending upon the amount of AP, unit price is quoted, i.e., price discount is allowed. Till now, this realistic factor is overlooked by the researchers. In this model, unit price is inversely related with the AP amount. Against this financial benefit, the management has to incur an expenditure paying interest against AP. Taking these into account, mathematical expression is derived for the expected average profit of the system. A closed form solution to maximize the expected average profit is obtained when demand is constant. In other cases model is solved using generalized reduced gradient (GRG) technique and stochastic search genetic algorithm (GA). Moreover, results of the models without and with advance payment are presented and solved. The numerical examples are presented to illustrate the model and the results for two models obtained from two methods are compared in different cases. Also, some parametric studies and sensitivity analyses have been carried out to illustrate the behavior of the proposed model. It is observed that advance payment has positive effect on the system.  相似文献

Changing economic conditions make the selling price and demand quantity more and more uncertain in the market. The conventional inventory models determine the selling price and order quantity for a retailer’s maximal profit with exactly known parameters. This paper develops a solution method to derive the fuzzy profit of the inventory model when the demand quantity and unit cost are fuzzy numbers. Since the parameters contained in the inventory model are fuzzy, the profit value calculated from the model should be fuzzy as well. Based on the extension principle, the fuzzy inventory problem is transformed into a pair of two-level mathematical programs to derive the upper bound and lower bound of the fuzzy profit at possibility level α. According to the duality theorem of geometric programming, the pair of two-level mathematical programs is transformed into a pair of conventional geometric programs to solve. By enumerating different α values, the upper bound and lower bound of the fuzzy profit are collected to approximate the membership function. Since the profit of the inventory problem is expressed by the membership function rather than by a crisp value, more information is provided for making decisions.  相似文献

Hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing systems play a key role in implementing closed-loop production systems which have been considered due to increasingly environmental concerns and latent profit of used products. Manufacturing and remanufacturing rates, selling price of new products, and acquisition price of used products are the most critical variables to optimize in such hybrid systems. In this paper, we develop a dynamic production/pricing problem, in which decisions should be made in each period confronting with uncertain demand and return. The manufacturer is able to control the demand and return by adjusting selling price and acquisition price respectively, also she can stock inventories of used and new products to deal with uncertainties. Modeling a nominal profit maximization problem, we go through robust optimization approach to reformulate it for the uncertain case. Final robust optimization model is obtained as a quadratic programming model over discrete periods which can be solved by optimization packages of QP. A numerical example is defined and sensitivity analysis is performed on both basic parameters and parameters associated with uncertainty to create managerial views.  相似文献

Quantity discount has been a subject of study for a long time; however, little is known about its effect on integrated inventory models when price-sensitive demand is placed. The objective of this study is to find the optimal pricing and ordering strategies for an integrated inventory system when a quantity discount policy is applied. The pricing strategy discussed here is one in which the vendor offers a quantity discount to the buyer. Then, the buyer will adjust his retail price based on the purchasing cost, which will influence the customer demand as a result. Consequently, an integrated inventory model is established to find the optimal solutions for order quantity, retail price, and the number of shipments from vendor to buyer in one production run, so that the joint total profit incurred has the maximum value. Also, numerical examples and a sensitivity analysis are given to illustrate the results of the model.  相似文献

研究了在随机需求条件下,供应链中用价格折扣策略协调供需双方利益的问题。考虑随机性需求有可能造成分销商的库存积压,本提出了生产商给予分销商的积压商品价格折扣的策略,分析了其激励机制,给出了最优价格折扣的模型和算法。最后用数值方法验证了这种价格折扣策略能够给生产商和分销商带来利益改善,而且需求波动越大,该策略的协调效果越好。  相似文献
