A high-quality low-timing-jitter 20-GHz optical pulse train is generated by using two cascaded sinusoidally driven electroabsorption modulators (EAMs) at very low bias voltage of -0.8 V in conjunction with a tunable distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser. An approximate transform-limited optical pulse,with the pulse width less than 7 ps, the spectral width of 0.3 nm, and the side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) above 20 dB, is obtained by tuning the optical delay line.  相似文献

All-optical digital logic elementary circuits are the building blocks of many important computational operations in future high-speed all-optical networks and computing systems. Multifunctional and reconfigurable logic units are essential in this respect. Employing the demodulation properties of delay interferometers for input differential phase shift keying signals and the gain saturation effect in two parallel semiconductor optical amplifiers, a novel design of 40 Gbit/s reconfigurable all-optical dual-directional half-subtractor is proposed and demonstrated. All output logic results show that the scheme achieves over 11=dB extinction ratio, clear and wide open eye diagram, as well as low polarization dependence (< 1 dB), without using any additional input light beam. The scheme may provide a promising candidate for future ultrafast all-optical signal processing applications.  相似文献

A method of all-optical microwave mixing and bandpass filtering is proposed to achieve idler-free RF frequency conversion based on cascaded phase modulation of a broadband optical source. The variable optical carrier time-shift method is employed to selectively generate the desired RF mixing components and highly suppress the other idler frequencies. An experimental system that can perform idler-free fundamental and harmonic RF upconversions is demonstrated, and the conversion efficiency is investigated both theoretically and experimentally.  相似文献

This paper proposes an optical transmitter to generate phase-shift-keying (PSK) radio frequency (RF)-signal, using two cascaded single-drive Mach-Zehnder modulators (SDMZMs). With input of a continuous-wave (CW) light, an electrical non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data, and an RF-local oscillator (RF-LO) signal at a frequency of ωl, the transmitter can simultaneously produce three PSK signals and two CW tones on both sides in spectrum, by employing nonlinear modulation technique. With the help of optical filters, the desired signals can be selected to mix at a photodetector (PD) to obtain a PSK-RF-signal with the carrier frequency of ωl, 3ωl, or 5ωl. Our scheme can be easily extended to generate quadrature PSK-RF-signal. The feasibility of our proposal is experimentally and numerically verified.  相似文献

A scheme of format conversion from optical 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) to quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) signal based on cascaded four-wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) is proposed. Theoretical analysis and simulations of the format conversion scheme are conducted to validate the feasibility of the proposal. In this proposal, the phase conjugated of 16QAM signal is generated after the first FWM process in an SOA, and then the QPSK signal is converted due to the second non-degenerate FWM (ND-FWM) process in another SOA. The performance and the optimal design of the 10 Gbit/s format conversion system under various key parameters of SOAs are evaluated and discussed. Simulation results present useful to enable interconnection between backbone network and access network.  相似文献

The paper experimentally demonstrated the optical frequency quadrupling microwave signal generation, a 4 GHz radio frequency (RF) signals up-conversion to 16 GHz in a radio over fiber (ROF) link, using twice optical carrier suppression modulation. The RF signal was mixed with 1.25 Gbps NRZ-OOK data firstly and then modulated by two cascaded single-electrode optical intensity modulators. The obtained 1.25 Gbps/16 GHz ROF signal was transmitted and characterized in the optical fiber link. At BER of 10?9, low power penalty of 1.0 and 1.4 dB were obtained over a fiber link with a transmission distance of 25 and 50 km.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate the concurrent generation of an optical code label and payload data by use of off-the-shelf optical intensity and phase modulators in a tandem structure. This technique is capable of reconfigurable generation of an arbitrarily long optical code label of phase-shift keying concurrently with the generation of payload data, without the need for a special class of optical encoder. This technique will be powerful for all-optical packet switching networks, based on scalability and compactness, for optical code labels.  相似文献

利用微带谐振器不同折叠方式引起电磁场分布差异从而产生交错谐频的效应,提出一种基于交错谐频的级联式超导带通滤波器设计方法,可以极大地拓宽滤波器的阻带范围。在YBCO/MgO高温超导基片上设计制作了中心频率为200MHz、相对带宽为0.25%的级联式超导滤波器。测试结果表明,该滤波器基频通带与9.1f_0处寄生通带之间的抑制度大于56d B,验证了该设计方法的有效性。  相似文献

The optical carrier suppression in optical quadruple frequency modulation by cascaded external modulators is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that the optical carrier suppression ratio is related with not only the initial phase difference of electrical signals applied on the two modulators, but also the optical phase shift between the two modulators. The maximum suppression ratio can be achieved when the total phase difference is equal to nπ+π/2 (n = 1, 2,…), which is verified by experiments. By properly controlling the total phase shift, 40-GHz millimeter-wave is generated by using a 10-GHz radio frequency (RF) source and the modulators.  相似文献

We propose and simulate simple realizations of all-optical format conversion between differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals based on cascaded second-order nonlinearities in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide. Four kinds of 40 Gb/s all-optical format conversion from non-return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (NRZ-DPSK) to return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying (RZ-DPSK) are investigated based on cascaded second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation (cSHG/DFG) or cascaded sum- and difference-frequency generation (cSFG/DFG). The optical spectra, temporal waveforms, eye diagrams, constellation diagrams, and time-related phase distribution are analyzed, which indicate successful implementation of NRZ-DPSK-to-RZ-DPSK format conversion. The obtained results also confirm the phase preservation characteristic of PPLN.  相似文献

We demonstrate a novel all-optical differentiator that carries out the first-order temporal derivation of optical intensity variation at high speed. It consists of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and an optical filter (OF) serving as an optical phase modulator and a frequency discriminator, respectively. A polarity-reversed derivative pair with a certain bias can be obtained by locating the probe wavelength at the positive or negative slope of the OF. Differentiations of super-Gaussian and Gaussian signals are obtained at various data rates. Defined as the mean absolute deviation of the measured result from the ideal result, total average errors of less than 0.12 are observed in all cases. Input power dynamics as well as control wavelength dependence are investigated and show that the cross-gain modulation in the SOA is detrimental to the differentiation performance.  相似文献

We propose a novel design method that incorporates multiple-layer relief profiles of diffractive phase elements to implement integrated operations on the incident beams according to their wavelengths. We demonstrate simultaneous wavelength-division demultiplexing, arbitrary (even random) wavelength shuffling or routing, spatial focusing, and other manipulations of multiwavelength beams, such as irradiance profile shaping, with design examples for applications in three-dimensional optical interconnects.  相似文献

针对概率成型双偏振64-正交幅度调制相干光传输系统,实验研究了可重构光分插复用器(reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer,ROADM)级联引起的带宽变窄对系统比特级可实现信息速率(bit-wise achievable information rate,BW AIR)的影响。发射端采用基于麦克斯韦玻尔兹曼分布的3个概率成型分布信号。实验装置包括概率成型符号序列的产生、模拟ROADM级联引起整体频率响应带宽变窄的可变带宽光滤波器、简化检测和BW AIR计算。结果表明:对于不同的星座熵,带宽变窄的影响是相似的;对于给定光信噪比,产生最大BW AIR的星座熵取决于ROADM级联导致带宽变窄的程度。通过选择合适的概率成型星座分布,系统可获得最大化BW AIR。  相似文献

We present a novel and simple technique for obtaining transversal filters with negative coefficients by using uniform fiber Bragg gratings. We demonstrate a wide tuning range, good performance, low cost, and easy implementation of multitap filters in an all-optical passive configuration in which negative taps are obtained by use of the transmission of a broadband source through uniform Bragg gratings.  相似文献

We demonstrate an efficiency-enhanced picosecond(ps) mid-infrared radiation via optical parametric downconversion. Based on a ceiscaded periodically poled MgO-doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystal(MgO:sPPLT), a tandem optical parametric oscillation-optical parametric amplification(OPO-OPA) process is achieved. Compared with a single OPO process, the conversion efficiency obtains an enhancement of 71%.  相似文献

Using the dynamical properties of the polarization bistability that depends on the detuning of the injected light,we propose a novel approach to implement reliable all-optical stochastic logic gates in the cascaded vertical cavity surface emitting lasers(VCSELs) with optical-injection.Here,two logic inputs are encoded in the detuning of the injected light from a tunable CW laser.The logic outputs are decoded from the two orthogonal polarization lights emitted from the optically injected VCSELs.For the same logic inputs,under electro-optic modulation,we perform various digital signal processing(NOT,AND,NAND,XOR,XNOR,OR,NOR) in the all-optical domain by controlling the logic operation of the applied electric field.Also we explore their delay storages by using the mechanism of the generalized chaotic synchronization.To quantify the reliabilities of these logic gates,we further demonstrate their success probabilities.  相似文献

We demonstrate a compact short-pass filter fabricated by integrating a microfiber (approximately 1 microm in diameter) with a low-index substrate. By varying the interaction length (from 0.65 to 3 mm) between the microfiber and the substrate for wavelength-dependent evanescent leakage, the cutoff wavelength has been tuned over a wide range of 400 nm. Typical rejection loss is higher than 40 dB with insertion loss as low as 0.3 dB. The fiber-diameter-dependent cutoff is also investigated, suggesting that the filter can be applied over a wide spectral range from 600 to 1500 nm. The microfiber-based short-pass filters demonstrated show advantages of compact size, wideband applicability, simple structure, high rejection loss, and compatibility with miniaturized fiber devices.  相似文献

We demonstrate a scheme based on a cascade of lithium niobate intensity and phase modulators driven by specially tailored RF waveforms to generate an optical frequency comb with very high spectral flatness. In this Letter, we demonstrate a 10 GHz comb with 38 comb lines within a spectral power variation below 1 dB. The number of comb lines that can be generated is limited by the power handling capability of the phase modulator, and this can be scaled without compromising the spectral flatness. Furthermore, the spectral phase of the generated combs in our scheme is almost purely quadratic, which, as we will demonstrate, allows for high-quality pulse compression using only single-mode fiber.  相似文献

A continuous wavelength-swept fiber ring laser with a lithium niobate waveguide electro-optic polarization controller in an intracavity fiber Sagnac loop is experimentally demonstrated. Composite fiber Sagnac loop filters are cascaded to demonstrate discrete wavelength switching of a single-wavelength fiber ring laser. Stable single-longitudinal-mode operation is achieved by use of a Sagnac loop saturable-absorber filter.  相似文献
