STUDY ON THE SYNTHESIS OF PLASTICIZER BBP AND SALICYLALDEHYDE BY PHASE TRANSFER CATALYSIS

our quaternary ammonium salts with different constructions and three polyethylene glycols with different molecular weights were selected as phase transfer catalyst, their catalytic activity for the synthesis of plasticizer butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) and salicylaldehyde was researched. Experimental results showed that the catalytic activity of quaternary ammonium salt is better than polyethylene glycol; among quaternary ammonium salts,that with symmetrical and longer alkyl is better in catalytic activity. on the basis of the results,the relationship between the structure of catalyst and the catalytic behavior is discussed.
