Abstract:The conception, construction and characteristics of all-optical-network (AON) are introduced. The physical model and operation principles of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and optical cross connecting (OXC) are discussed in detail. We also make an overview of the applications of DWDM and OXC to the all-optical-network and forecast the trend of the all-optical communication.
