Regular characters of classical groups over complete discrete valuation rings

Let $\mathfrak{o}$ be a complete discrete valuation ring with finite residue field $\mathsf{k}$ of odd characteristic, and let G be a symplectic or special orthogonal group scheme over $\mathfrak{o}$. For any $?\in \mathbb{N}$ let $G^{?}$ denote the ?-th principal congruence subgroup of $\mathbf{G}(\mathfrak{o})$. An irreducible character of the group $\mathbf{G}(\mathfrak{o})$ is said to be regular if it is trivial on a subgroup $G^{?+1}$ for some ?, and if its restriction to $G^{?}/G^{?+1}?\mathrm{Lie}(\mathbf{G})(\mathsf{k})$ consists of characters of minimal $\mathbf{G}({\mathsf{k}}^{\mathrm{alg}})$-stabilizer dimension. In the present paper we consider the regular characters of such classical groups over $\mathfrak{o}$, and construct and enumerate all regular characters of $\mathbf{G}(\mathfrak{o})$, when the characteristic of $\mathsf{k}$ is greater than two. As a result, we compute the regular part of their representation zeta function.     

Existential monadic second order logic of undirected graphs: The Le Bars conjecture is false

In 2001, J.-M. Le Bars disproved the zero-one law (that says that every sentence from a certain logic is either true asymptotically almost surely (a.a.s.), or false a.a.s.) for existential monadic second order sentences (EMSO) on undirected graphs. He proved that there exists an EMSO sentence ? such that $\mathsf{P}(G_n??)$ does not converge as $n\to \infty$ (here, the probability distribution is uniform over the set of all graphs on the labeled set of vertices $\{1,\dots ,n\}$). In the same paper, he conjectured that, for EMSO sentences with 2 first order variables, the zero-one law holds. In this paper, we disprove this conjecture.     

A bound on the Wasserstein-2 distance between linear combinations of independent random variables

We provide a bound on a distance between finitely supported elements and general elements of the unit sphere of ${?}^2\left({\mathbb{N}}^1\right)$. We use this bound to estimate the Wasserstein-2 distance between random variables represented by linear combinations of independent random variables. Our results are expressed in terms of a discrepancy measure related to Nourdin–Peccati’s Malliavin–Stein method. The main application is towards the computation of quantitative rates of convergence to elements of the second Wiener chaos. In particular, we explicit these rates for non-central asymptotic of sequences of quadratic forms and the behavior of the generalized Rosenblatt process at extreme critical exponent.     

Non parametric estimation of the diffusion coefficients of a diffusion with jumps

In this article, we consider a jump diffusion process ${\left(X_t\right)}_{t\ge 0}$, with drift function $b$, diffusion coefficient $\sigma$ and jump coefficient ${\xi }^2$. This process is observed at discrete times $t=0,\Delta ,\dots ,n\Delta$. The sampling interval $\Delta$ tends to 0 and the time interval $n\Delta$ tends to infinity. We assume that ${\left(X_t\right)}_{t\ge 0}$ is ergodic, strictly stationary and exponentially $\beta$-mixing. We use a penalized least-square approach to compute adaptive estimators of the functions ${\sigma }^2+{\xi }^2$ and ${\sigma }^2$. We provide bounds for the risks of the two estimators.     

Coleman automorphisms of finite groups and their minimal normal subgroups

In this paper, we show that all Coleman automorphisms of a finite group with self-central minimal non-trivial characteristic subgroup are inner; therefore the normalizer property holds for these groups. Using our methods we show that the holomorph and wreath product of finite simple groups, among others, have no non-inner Coleman automorphisms. As a further application of our theorems, we provide partial answers to questions raised by M. Hertweck and W. Kimmerle. Furthermore, we characterize the Coleman automorphisms of extensions of a finite nilpotent group by a cyclic p-group. Finally, we note that class-preserving Coleman automorphisms of p-power order of some nilpotent-by-nilpotent groups are inner, extending a result by J. Hai and J. Ge, where p is a prime number.     

General non local boundary value problem for second order elliptic equation

In this paper we study a class of second order coefficient operators differential equation with general (possibly non local) boundary conditions. We obtain new results extending those given in a previous paper 1 . Existence, uniqueness and optimal regularity of the strict solution are proved in UMD spaces, using the well‐known Dore–Venni theorem.
