A metal‐free photoanode nanojunction architecture, composed of B‐doped carbon nitride nanolayer and bulk carbon nitride, was fabricated by a one‐step approach. This type of nanojunction (s‐BCN) overcomes a few intrinsic drawbacks of carbon nitride film (severe bulk charge recombination and slow charge transfer). The top layer of the nanojunction has a depth of ca. 100 nm and the bottom layer is ca. 900 nm. The nanojunction photoanode results into a 10‐fold higher photocurrent than bulk graphitic carbon nitride (G‐CN) photoanode, with a record photocurrent density of 103.2 μA cm−2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE under one sun irradiation and an extremely high incident photon‐to‐current efficiency (IPCE) of ca. 10 % at 400 nm. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Mott–Schottky plots, and intensity‐modulated photocurrent spectroscopy show that such enhancement is mainly due to the mitigated deep trap states, a more than 10 times faster charge transfer rate and nearly three times higher conductivity due to the nanojunction architecture.  相似文献

A photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell can split water into hydrogen and oxygen with the assistance of solar illumination. However, its application is still limited by excessive bulk carrier recombination and sluggish surface oxygen evolution reaction (OER) kinetics. Taking SnS2 as an example, a promising layered optoelectronic semiconductor, Ar plasma treatment strategy was used to introduce a SnS/SnS2 P?N heterojunction and O?S bond near the surface of a SnS2 nanosheet array, simultaneously increasing the separation efficiency of photogenerated electron–hole pairs in the bulk and lowering the OER overpotential at the surface. The onset potential of the plasma‐treated SnS2 nanosheet array shifts negatively to 0.16 V, and the photocurrent density at 1.23 V vs. RHE boosts to 2.15 mA cm?2, which is 7 times that of pristine SnS2. This work demonstrates a facile plasma treatment strategy to modulate the energy band structure and surface chemical states for improved PEC performance.  相似文献

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) is a potential method for production of fuels and chemicals from a C1 feedstock accumulated in the atmosphere. However, the low solubility of CO2 in water, and complicated processes associated with capture and conversion, render CO2 conversion inefficient. A new concept is proposed in which a PEC system is used to capture and convert CO2 into formic acid. The process is assisted by an ionic liquid (1‐aminopropyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bromide) aqueous solution, which functions as an absorbent and electrolyte at ambient temperature and pressure. Within this PEC reduction strategy, the ionic liquid plays a critical role in promoting the conversion of CO2 to formic acid and suppressing the reduction of H2O to H2. At an applied voltage of 1.7 V, the Faradaic efficiency for formic acid production is as high as 94.1 % and the electro‐to‐chemical efficiency is 86.2 %.  相似文献

An artificial photosynthetic (APS) system consisting of a photoanodic semiconductor that harvests solar photons to split H2O, a Ni‐SNG cathodic catalyst for the dark reaction of CO2 reduction in a CO2‐saturated NaHCO3 solution, and a proton‐conducting membrane enabled syngas production from CO2 and H2O with solar‐to‐syngas energy‐conversion efficiency of up to 13.6 %. The syngas CO/H2 ratio was tunable between 1:2 and 5:1. Integration of the APS system with photovoltaic cells led to an impressive overall quantum efficiency of 6.29 % for syngas production. The largest turnover frequency of 529.5 h?1 was recorded with a photoanodic N‐TiO2 nanorod array for highly stable CO production. The CO‐evolution rate reached a maximum of 154.9 mmol g?1 h?1 in the dark compartment of the APS cell. Scanning electrochemical–atomic force microscopy showed the localization of electrons on the single‐nickel‐atom sites of the Ni‐SNG catalyst, thus confirming that the multielectron reduction of CO2 to CO was kinetically favored.  相似文献

Ta3N5 is a very promising photocatalyst for solar water splitting because of its wide spectrum solar energy utilization up to 600 nm and suitable energy band position straddling the water splitting redox reactions. However, its development has long been impeded by poor compatibility with electrolytes. Herein, we demonstrate a simple sputtering‐nitridation process to fabricate high‐performance Ta3N5 film photoanodes owing to successful synthesis of the vital TaOδ precursors. An effective GaN coating strategy is developed to remarkably stabilize Ta3N5 by forming a crystalline nitride‐on‐nitride structure with an improved nitride/electrolyte interface. A stable, high photocurrent density of 8 mA cm−2 was obtained with a CoPi/GaN/Ta3N5 photoanode at 1.2 VRHE under simulated sunlight, with O2 and H2 generated at a Faraday efficiency of unity over 12 h. Our vapor‐phase deposition method can be used to fabricate high‐performance (oxy)nitrides for practical photoelectrochemical applications.  相似文献

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is a promising strategy to convert solar energy into hydrogen fuel. However, the poor bulk charge‐separation ability and slow surface oxygen evolution reaction (OER) dynamics of photoelectrodes impede the performance. We construct In‐ and Zn/In‐doped SnS2 nanosheet arrays through a hydrothermal method. The doping induces the simultaneous formation of an amorphous layer, S vacancies, and a gradient energy band. This leads to elevated carrier concentrations, an increased number of surface‐reaction sites, accelerated surface‐OER kinetics, and an enhanced bulk‐carrier separation efficiency with a decreased recombination rate. This efficient doping strategy allows to manipulate the morphology, crystallinity, and band structure of photoelectrodes for an improved PEC performance.  相似文献
