Cucurbitaceae is a family of health-promoting plants due to their compounds with beneficial effects. The aim of this study was to analyze, for the first time, the chemical composition, the antioxidant activity and the metal chelating properties of fruit juices obtained from four different species of the Cucurbitaceae family cultivated in Romania, namely Momordica charantia, Cucumis metuliferus, Benincasa hispida and Trichosanthes cucumerina. The samples of juice were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and all the four species displayed high levels of the two triterpenes, oleanolic and ursolic acids, and also in phenolic compounds, including catechin, (−)-epicatechin and gallic acid. The juices demonstrated significant antioxidant activity against the free radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (ranging from 20 to 95%,), a good iron binding ability (ranging from 7.45 ± 0.28% to 86.95 ± 0.97%) and also promising antioxidant potential against the ABTS radical (ranging from 4.97 to 32.60 μETx/mL juice). Our findings raise interesting questions for further research on Cucurbitaceae fruit juices and, consequently, their very good antioxidant potential suggests these fruits should be further explored for their protective effect against oxidative damage. This is the first time the chemical composition and antioxidant activities of fruit juices from these four Romanian Cucurbitaceae varieties have been investigated.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to explore the protective effects of Trichosanthes kirilowii ethanol extract (TKE) against cisplatin-induced acute renal failure (ARF). In the in vitro study, TKE-pretreated porcine kidney cells (PK15) exhibited enhanced cell viability after cisplatin (15 μg mL? 1) treatment in both MTT and crystal violet assays. PK15 cells pretreated with TKE (50 μg mL? 1) exhibited increased glutathione content, decreased reactive oxygen species production and ameliorated p53 expression. In vivo study, rats were administered with TKE for 4 weeks before cisplatin (5 mg kg? 1) injection. TKE (100 mg kg? 1) decreased blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels by 24% and 47%, respectively, in comparison with cisplatin-alone group. In addition, TKE pretreatment ameliorated cisplatin-induced oxidative stress, as evidenced by increased antioxidative enzyme levels and decreased lipid peroxidation levels. Moreover, TKE pretreatment reduced histopathological alterations in the kidney with decreased apoptotic cells. Taken together, TKE might be beneficial in treating cisplatin-induced ARF.  相似文献

Systematic phytochemical studies of the extract of Luo Han Go (Siraitia grosvenorii) furnished six known cucurbitane glycosides, namely, mogrosides IVa, mogrosides V and VI, isomogroside V, 11-oxomogroside V, and siamenoside I. The structures of all the isolated compounds were characterized on the basis of extensive spectral and chemical studies. Though the partial NMR spectral data has been reported for some of the isolated compounds previously, the complete 1H and 13C NMR spectral assignments of all the isolated compounds are reported herewith for the first time based on COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY spectroscopic data.  相似文献

Abstract

One new amino acid derivative, (–)-β-homoarginine anhydride 1, as well as nine known compounds were isolated from Trichosanthes truncata. The structures of the isolates were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Among them, compounds 5 and 11 could notably dose-dependently inhibit ROS productions in HaCaT keratinocyte cells without cytotoxicity in the concentration range of 0.2–20?μM. In cell-free mushroom tyrosinase assay, compounds 15, 10 and 11 had more potential anti-tyrosinase activities with IC50 values of 106.9–255.6?μM than arbutin that were similar to predicted values of binding affinity calculated by molecule docking. The most active 2 had hydrogen bonds (Ser77, Glu309, Phe454) and electrostatic charges (Glu309, Glu248) interactions with mushroom tyrosinase, respectively. Our data manifested that T. truncata and its components are potentially to be developed as anti-aging and whitening agents for skin disorders.  相似文献

Two new cucurbitane‐type triterpenes, 25‐methoxycucurbita‐5,23(E)‐diene‐3β,19‐diol ( 1 ) and 7β‐ethoxy‐3β‐hydroxy‐25‐methoxycucurbita‐5,23(E)‐dien‐19‐al ( 2 ), together with three known cucurbitane‐type triterpenes, 3β,7β,25‐trihydroxycucurbita‐5,23(E)‐dien‐19‐al ( 3 ), (23E)‐3β‐hydroxy‐7β,25‐dimethoxycucurbita‐5,23‐dien‐19‐al ( 4 ), and 3β‐hydroxy‐25‐methoxycucurbita‐6,23(E)‐dien‐19,5β‐olide ( 5 ), were isolated from the fruit pulp of Momordica charantia. The structures of two new compounds were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR, MS, IR, optical rotation. Among these isolates, compounds 1 , 2 , and 5 showed slight cytotoxic activity against the SK‐Hep 1 cell line with IC50 values of 33.1, 24.3, and 38.7 μM, respectively.  相似文献

The change of triglyceride composition in seeds of certain plants of the Cucurbitaceae family and Taraxacum officinale during ripening was studied by HPLC. A small decrease in the content of palmitic derivatives in Cucurbitaceae seed oil and a questionable change of the triglyceride composition of T. Officinale seed oil were found. Data for the triglyceride composition were compared with calculations performed assuming an equally probable statistical distribution of fatty-acid radicals.  相似文献

A new sterol, 5α,6α‐epoxy‐3β‐hydroxy‐(22E,24R)‐ergosta‐8,22‐dien‐7‐one ( 1 ), together with eight known sterols, 5α,6α‐epoxy‐(22E,24R)‐ergosta‐8,22‐diene‐3β,7α‐diol ( 2 ), 5α,6α‐epoxy‐(22E,24R)‐ergosta‐8,22‐diene‐3β,7β‐diol ( 3 ), 5α,6α‐epoxy‐(22E,24R)‐ergosta‐8(14),22‐diene‐3β,7α‐diol ( 4 ), 3β‐hydroxy‐(22E,24R)‐ergosta‐5,8,22‐trien‐7‐one ( 5 ), ergosterol peroxide ( 6 ), clerosterol ( 7 ), decortinol ( 8 ), and decortinone ( 9 ), were isolated from the stems of Momordica charantia. Their structures were elucidated by mean of extensive spectroscopic methods, including 1H, 13C, 2D‐NMR and HR‐EI‐MS, as well as comparison with the literature data. Compounds 1 , 4 , 5 , 8 , and 91 were not cytotoxic against the SK‐Hep 1 cell line.  相似文献

The chemical study of Momordica charantia fruits led to the isolation of three new cucurbitane triterpene glycosides, momordicosides U, V, and W (1–3). The structures of these compounds were determined to be (19R, 23R)‐5β, 19‐epoxy‐19‐methoxycucurbita‐6,24‐diene‐3β, 23‐diol 3‐O‐β‐D‐allopyranoside (1), (23R)‐5β, 19‐epoxycucurbita‐6,24‐diene‐3β, 23‐diol 3‐O‐β‐D‐allopyranoside (2), and (19R)‐5β, 19‐epoxy‐19,25‐dihydroxycucurbita‐6,23(E)‐diene‐3β‐ol 3‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (3), by chemical and spectroscopic methods.
