Transition-metal-templated synthesis of rotaxanes and catenanes: From small molecules to polymers

This article provides an overview of the fundamental principles of the synthesis of metallocatenanes and metallorotaxanes. It also describes the synthesis and properties of electronic conducting polymers—polypyrrole and polythiophene—built around metallocatenanes and metallorotaxanes. The particular properties of this new class of polymers, including the possibility of transmetallation reactions being performed with them and the observation of electronic coupling between the metal centers and the conducting matrix, are discussed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Development of a Novel Approach to Formation of a Pyrrole Ring: Synthesis of 2,3,5-Substituted 1-[2-(Vinyloxy)ethyl]pyrroles

Reaction of 2-(vinyloxy)ethylisothiocyanate with unsaturated carbanions generated in situ from propargyl ethers and amines when treated with superbases, after S-alkylation and cyclization of the adducts in the presence of CuBr, leads to the previously unknown 2,3,5-substituted 1-[2-(vinyloxy)ethyl]pyrroles.     

Hetero-calix[4]pyrroles: incorporation of furans, thiophenes, thiazoles or fluorenes as a part of the macrocycle

Furans, thiazoles, fluorene or thiophene incorporated calix[4]pyrrole analogues were synthesized and characterized. The synthesis was achieved by utilization of various building blocks such as 7, 13, 14, 18 and 21. Acid catalyzed condensation of those building blocks with acetone or meso-disubstituted dipyrromethanes afforded desired macrocycles.

Reactions of isocyanatophosphoryl difluoride with π-abundant nitrogen heterocycles and carbonyl compounds

Reactions of electron-rich nitrogen heterocycles with isocyanatophosphoryl difluoride were studied. Novel heteroylaminophosphoryl difluorides were obtained in high yields. N-Phosphorylated imines were synthesized for the first time from carbonyl compounds and phosphorus isocyanates. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Electrochemical dimerization of phenacyl bromides N-acylhydrazones—a new way to 1-N-acylamino-2,5-diaryl-pyrroles

Cathodic reduction of phenacyl bromides N-acyl hydrazones lead to dimeric 1,4-diaryl-1,4-butanedione di-N-acylhydrazones, which give the corresponding 1-N-acylamino-2,5-diarylpyrroles in good yields.     

Far-Red Dibenzo[a,j]Perylene-8,16-Dione Dyes as Fluorescent Enzyme Substrates and Tags for Biomolecules

The synthesis of fluorescent 2,10-derivatives of the title chromophore are described. The substituents contain amino-reactive N-hydroxysuccinimde ester and thiol-reactive iodoacetamide groups for attachment to biomolecules. A phosphate derivative was also prepared as an enzyme substrate.     

Microwave-Assisted Method for Synthesis of 1,3-Disubstituted Pyrroles

1,3-Disubstituted pyrroles were prepared by a microwave-assisted reaction of pyrrolidine and aldehydes in toluene as well as in solvent-free conditions. Reactions were completed in a few minutes in the solvent-free condition but a long time (up to 30 min) was necessary to complete reactions in toluene. Yields of products depended considerably on the aldehyde used.
