The angles a fourth-harmonic holographic interferometer probing beam is refracted upon passing through a neodymium laser-produced plasma have been measured by varying the focus during reconstruction of the hologram. A method (not requiring the numerical inversion of an integral equation) for using such refraction measurements to give the plasma electron density profile is shown to produce a profile in agreement with that obtained from the phase information on the reconstructed in-focus interferogram.  相似文献

The diagnostic potential of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) coherent probing within a laser produced plasma is investigated. A fluid code is used to model the interaction of a 35 fs, 2 × 1014 Wcm?2 800 nm laser pulse with an 800 nm thick aluminium target. A post processor is used to calculate the refractive index and transmission to 45 eV radiation of the target. The effects of EUV radial phase variations at the rear of the target on the intensity distribution at a detector 1.5 m from the target are studied. An irradiated aluminium target is found to have little effect on the transmission of 45 eV radiation, however, there are significant phase retardation differences of the probing beam in the radial direction. These phase variations affect the subsequent propagation of the radiation, suggesting that a simple diagnostic that measures the far-field footprint of the coherent EUV radiation passing through an irradiated target is sensitive to radial variations of the target heating. Sample calculated footprint variations associated with a drop in laser absorption to an irradiance of 1014 Wcm?2 at a radius from the focal centre of 50 μm are shown.  相似文献

The transmission of plasma-based soft X-ray lasers through thin targets can be used to measure the target opacity. Measurements of warm dense matter transmission obtained using a focused 59 eV photon energy laser irradiation on thin targets of polyimide (C22H10N2O5) and aluminum are shown to produce simultaneous heating and probing enabling opacity and temperature measurements of warm dense matter. It is shown that the opacity of the warm dense matter considered in the experiments follows closely tabulated cold ‘room temperature’ opacities at temperatures below ~10 eV. Transmission measurements of thin iron targets which are highly opaque to the X-ray laser radiation are also presented.  相似文献

Planer stripe and foil targets coated with NaF were irradiated with high intensity 351 nm laser radiation of 130 ps duration. Time-integrated as well as time-resolved measurement of gain on NaXIH at 54.2Å were made. A time-integrated gain of 1.2 –1.1 +0.8 cm–1 and a time-resolved peak gain of 3.2±1.0 cm–1 were obtained. A detailed account of the experimental procedures for determination of gain is given.  相似文献

Experiments were performed with a 15 J/500 ps Nd:glass laser (λ = 1064 nm) focussed to an intensity >1014 W/cm2. X-ray emissions from carbon foam and 5% Pt-doped carbon foam of density 150–300 mg/cc were compared with that of the solid carbon targets. The thickness of the carbon foam was 15 µm on a graphite substrate. X-ray emission was measured using semiconductor X-ray diodes covered with various filters having transmissions in different X-ray spectral ranges. It covered X-ray spectrum of 0.8–8.5 keV range. The X-ray emission in the soft X-ray region was observed to increase to about 1.8 times and 2.3 times in carbon foam and Pt-doped foam, respectively with respect to solid carbon. In hard X-rays, there was no measurable difference amongst the carbon foam, Pt-doped carbon foam and solid carbon. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis demonstrates that foam targets smoothens the crater formed by the laser irradiation.  相似文献

Energy spectra for decaying 2D turbulence in a bounded domain   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We use results derived in the framework of the replica approach to study the liquid-glass thermodynamic transition. The main results are derived without using replicas and applied to the study of the Lennard-Jones binary mixture introduced by Kob and Andersen. We find that there is a phase transition due to the entropy crisis. We compute both analytically and numerically the value of the phase transition point T(K) and the specific heat in the low temperature phase.  相似文献

Predictions of hot, dense iron plasma opacity at 89 eV photon energy are compared with experimental determinations from the transmission of laser-heated iron to extreme ultra-violet (EUV) laser radiation. The EUV laser was pumped using six beams of an Nd-Yag laser in a refraction compensating geometry, while another beam irradiated a tamped solid iron target with an intensity of 1014 W cm−2. The Ehybrid hydrodynamic and atomic physics code was used to predict temperatures, densities and ionisation throughout the evolving iron plasma. The iron opacities were deduced taking into account free–free, bound–free and bound–bound absorption. Bound–bound absorption was considered using atomic data generated by the Opacity Project. Reasonable overall agreement between theory and experiment was obtained for the iron layer transmission. The simulations indicated the dominance of bound–bound absorption throughout most regions of the iron plasma, but also the potential importance of photoionisation from core levels where energetically possible.  相似文献

The temporal evolution of the opacity of an iron plasma at high temperature (30-350 eV) and high density (0.001-0.2 g cm-3) has been measured using a nickel-like silver x-ray laser at 13.9 nm. The hot dense iron plasma was created in a thin (50 nm) iron layer buried 80 nm below the surface in a plastic target that was heated using a separate 80 ps pulse of 6-9 J, focused to a 100 microm diameter spot. The experimental opacities are compared with opacities evaluated from plasma conditions predicted using a fluid and atomic physics code.  相似文献

An overview of recent advances in applications of currently the most energetic X-ray laser at 21 nm is given. The unique parameters of this half-cavity based X-ray laser such as record output energy of 10 mJ, highly symmetric beam, robustness and reproducibility, have made it possible to carry out a number of multidisciplinary scientific projects featuring novel applications of intense coherent X-ray radiation. Selected results obtained in these experiments are reviewed, including X-ray laser probing of dense plasmas, measurements of transmission of focused soft X-ray radiation at intensities of up to 1012 W cm-2, measurements of infrared laser ablation rates of thin foils, and ablative microstructuring of solids.  相似文献

We demonstrate that interferometric probing with extreme ultraviolet (EUV) laser light enables determination of the degree of ionization of the "warm dense matter" produced between the critical and ablation surfaces of laser plasmas. Interferometry has been utilized to measure both transmission and phase information for an EUV laser beam at the photon energy of 58.5 eV, probing longitudinally through laser-irradiated plastic (parylene-N) targets (thickness 350 nm) irradiated by a 300 ps duration pulse of wavelength 438 nm and peak irradiance 10(12) W cm(-2). The transmission of the EUV probe beam provides a measure of the rate of target ablation, as ablated plasma becomes close to transparent when the photon energy is less than the ionization energy of the predominant ion species. We show that refractive indices η below the solid parylene N (η(solid) = 0.946) and expected plasma values are produced in the warm dense plasma created by laser irradiation due to bound-free absorption in C(+).  相似文献
