Recovery of sludge from alumina production

The carbonation of the sludge slurry was studied. The main characteristics of the initial and carbonated red mud were compared. The carbonation of sludge ensures reduction of the toxicity of a sludge field and enables extraction of some rare metals (scandium, zirconium, titanium), aluminum, and sodium. The possibility of using the treated sludge as an additive in the manufacture of cement and concrete products was determined.     

QCD analysis of structure functions in terms of Jacobi polynomials

A new method of QCD-analysis of singlet and nonsinglet structure functions based on their expansion in orthogonal Jacobi polynomials is proposed. An accuracy of the method is studied and its application is demonstrated using the structure functionF ₂(x, Q ²) obtained by the EMC Collaboration from measurements with an iron target.     

Phonons in red HgI2

A critical analysis of existing experimental and theoretical information on the lattice dynamics of the layered crystal α-HgI₂ is performed. It is shown that a satisfactory understanding of the character of the interatomic interaction and characteristic features of the phonon spectrum of this material can be obtained in a simple phenomenological model with eight parameters, assuming that E _g/B_1g degeneracy of the 29 cm⁻¹ Raman line is of a two-phonon nature. Scalar top quarks production in polarized photon-photon collisions at ILC

We study pair production of scalar top quarks (stop, \(\tilde t_1\)) in polarized photon-photon collisions with the subsequent decay of the top squarks into b quarks and charginos \(\tilde t_1 \to b\tilde \chi _1^ \pm\). We simulate this process by using PYTHIA6.4 for an electron beam energy \(2E_{beam}^e = \sqrt {s_{ee} } = 1000 GeV\). The energy spectrum of back-scattered photons is generated by CIRCE2 program. A set of criteria for physical variables is proposed which leads to a good separation of stop signal events from top quark pair production, being the main background. These criteria allow us to reconstruct the mass of the top squark, provided that the neutralino mass is known.
