The precision of atomic mass measurements in a Penning trap is directly proportional to the charge state q of the ion and, hence, can be increased by using highly charged ions (HCI). For this reason, charge breeding with an electron beam ion trap (EBIT) is employed at TRIUMF’s Ion Trap for Atomic and Nuclear science (TITAN) on-line facility in Vancouver, Canada. By bombarding the injected and trapped singly charged ions with an intense beam of electrons, the charge state of the ions is rapidly increased inside the EBIT. To be compatible with the on-line requirements of short-lived isotopes, very high electron beam current densities are needed. The TITAN EBIT includes a 6 Tesla superconducting magnet and is designed to have electron beam currents and energies of up to 5 A and 60 keV, respectively. Once operational at full capacity, most species can be bred into a He-like configuration within tens of ms. Subsequently, the HCI are extracted, pass a Wien filter to reduce isobaric contamination, are cooled, and injected into a precision Penning trap for mass measurement. We will present the first results and current status of the TITAN EBIT, which has recently been moved to TRIUMF after assembly and commissioning at the Max-Planck-Institute (MPI) for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany.  相似文献

In a proof-of-principle experiment, we demonstrate high-resolution resonant laser excitation in the soft x-ray region at 48.6 eV of the 2 (2)S(1/2) to 2 (2)P(1/2) transition of Li-like Fe23+ ions trapped in an electron beam ion trap by using ultrabrilliant light from Free Electron Laser in Hamburg (FLASH). High precision spectroscopic studies of highly charged ions at this and upcoming x-ray lasers with an expected accuracy gain up to a factor of a thousand, become possible with our technique, thus potentially yielding fundamental insights, e.g., into basic aspects of QED.  相似文献

The intermediate and forward gamma detectors of EHS are used to reconstructπ°'s produced by 360 GeV/cpp interactions in the Rapid Cycling Bubble Chamber (RCBC). Using thepp forwardbackward symmetry, the inclusiveπ° production cross section is obtainedσ π°=(132±11) mb. Coherent combination of high-power, zigzag slab lasers   总被引:14,自引:0,他引:14  
We demonstrate a scalable architecture for a high-power, high-brightness, solid-state laser based on coherent combinations of master oscillator power amplifier chains. A common master oscillator injects a sequence of multikilowatt Nd:YAG zigzag slab amplifiers. Adaptive optics correct the wavefront of each amplified beamlet. The beamlets are tiled side by side and actively phase locked to form a single output beam. The laser produces 19 kW with beam quality <2x diffraction limited. To the best of our knowledge, this is the brightest cw solid-state laser demonstrated to date.  相似文献

A model of the cochlea was used to bridge the gap between model approaches commonly used to investigate phenomena related to otoacoustic emissions and more filter-based model approaches often used in psychoacoustics. In the present study, a nonlinear and active one-dimensional transmission line model was developed that accounts for several aspects of physiological data with a single fixed parameter set. The model shows plausible excitation patterns and an input-output function similar to the linear-compressive-linear function as hypothesized in psychoacoustics. The model shows realistic results in a two-tone suppression paradigm and a plausible growth function of the 2f(1)-f(2) component of distortion product otoacoustic emissions. Finestructure was found in simulated stimulus-frequency otoacoustic emissions (SFOAE) with realistic levels and rapid phase rotation. A plausible "threshold in quiet" including finestructure and spontaneous otoacoustic emissions (SOAE) could be simulated. It is further shown that psychoacoustical data of modulation detection near threshold can be explained by the mechanical dynamics of the modeled healthy cochlea. It is discussed that such a model can be used to investigate the representation of acoustic signals in healthy and impaired cochleae at this early stage of the auditory pathway for both, physiological as well as psychoacoustical paradigms.  相似文献

A method for identifying a piecewise-linear approximation to the nonlinear forces acting on a system is presented and demonstrated using response data from a micro-cantilever beam. It is based on the Restoring Force Surface (RFS) method by Masri and Caughey, which is very attractive when initially testing a nonlinear system because it does not require the user to postulate a form for the nonlinearity a priori. The piecewise-linear fitting method presented here assures that a continuous piecewise-linear surface is identified, is effective even when the data does not cover the phase plane uniformly, and is more computationally efficient than classical polynomial based methods. A strategy for applying the method in polar form to sinusoidally excited response data is also presented. The method is demonstrated on simulated response data from a cantilever beam with a nonlinear electrostatic force, which highlights some of the differences between the local, piecewise-linear model presented here and polynomial-based models. The proposed methods are then applied to identify the force-state relationship for a micro-cantilever beam, whose response to single frequency excitation, measured with a Laser Doppler Vibrometer, contains a multitude of harmonics. The measurements suggest that an oscillatory nonlinear force acts on the cantilever when its tip velocity is near maximum during each cycle.  相似文献

Machining induced residual stress states have been identified to affect the distortion of parts during following heat treatments. Thus, ideally a complete characterization of the components residual stress state is required. Magnetic and micromagnetic analysis of residual stresses can represent an important gain of time compared to X-ray diffraction. Investigations with these two methods were performed on different components with various and inhomogeneous residual stress states: cylindrical and tapered ball bearing rings made from AISI52100 steel and a disc made from AISI5210 steel. Reliable results and good agreement between X-ray diffraction data and residual stresses obtained from the magnetic and micromagnetic analysis can be obtained with the use of a calibration for each single component. An important gain of time can be achieved with the combined use of X-ray diffraction analysis for the calibration and the micromagnetic technique. However, local residual stress variations in zones smaller than the sensor size may not be detected. A global calibration of the micromagnetic equipment with one calibration file for several parts still needs optimization.  相似文献
