We consider an interacting-particle algorithm which is population-based like genetic algorithms and also has a temperature parameter analogous to simulated annealing. The temperature parameter of the interacting-particle algorithm has to cool down to zero in order to achieve convergence towards global optima. The way this temperature parameter is tuned affects the performance of the search process and we implement a meta-control methodology that adapts the temperature to the observed state of the samplings. The main idea is to solve an optimal control problem where the heating/cooling rate of the temperature parameter is the control variable. The criterion of the optimal control problem consists of user defined performance measures for the probability density function of the particles’ locations including expected objective function value of the particles and the spread of the particles’ locations. Our numerical results indicate that with this control methodology the temperature fluctuates (both heating and cooling) during the progress of the algorithm to meet our performance measures. In addition our numerical comparison of the meta-control methodology with classical cooling schedules demonstrate the benefits in employing the meta-control methodology.  相似文献

We study displacement and strain measurement error of dual transducers (two linear arrays, aligned orthogonally and coplanar). Displacements along the beam of each transducer are used to obtain measurements in two-dimensions. Simulations (5 MHz) and experiments (10 MHz) are compared to measurements with a single linear array, with and without angular compounding. Translation simulations demonstrate factors of 1.07 larger and 8.0 smaller biases in the axial and lateral directions respectively, for dual transducers compared to angular compounding. As the angle between dual transducers decreases from 90° to 40°, for 1% compression simulations, the lateral RMS error ranges from 2.1 to 3.9 μm compared to 9 μm with angular compounding. Simulation of dual transducer misalignment of 1 mm and 2° result in errors of less than 9 μm. Experiments demonstrate factors of 3.0 and 5.2 lower biases for dual transducers in the axial and lateral directions respectively compared to angular compounding.  相似文献

A common issue for stochastic global optimization algorithms is how to set the parameters of the sampling distribution (e.g. temperature, mutation/cross-over rates, selection rate, etc.) so that the samplings converge to the optimum effectively and efficiently. We consider an interacting-particle algorithm and develop a meta-control methodology which analytically guides the inverse temperature parameter of the algorithm to achieve desired performance characteristics (e.g. quality of the final outcome, algorithm running time, etc.). The main aspect of our meta-control methodology is to formulate an optimal control problem where the fractional change in the inverse temperature parameter is the control variable. The objectives of the optimal control problem are set according to the desired behavior of the interacting-particle algorithm. The control problem considers particles’ average behavior, rather than treating the behavior of individual particles. The solution to the control problem provides feedback on the inverse temperature parameter of the algorithm.  相似文献
