Piper betle (L) is a popular medicinal plant in Asia. Plant leaves have been used as a traditional medicine to treat various health conditions. It is highly abundant and inexpensive, therefore promoting further research and industrialization development, including in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Articles published from 2010 to 2020 were reviewed in detail to show recent updates on the antibacterial and antifungal properties of betel leaves. This current review showed that betel leaves extract, essential oil, preparations, and isolates could inhibit microbial growth and kill various Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria as well as fungal species, including those that are multidrug-resistant and cause serious infectious diseases. P. betle leaves displayed high efficiency on Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The ratio of MBC/MIC indicated bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects of P. betle leaves, while MFC/MIC values showed fungicidal and fungistatic effects. This review also provides a list of phytochemical compounds in betel leaves extracts and essential oils, safety profiles, and value-added products of betel leaves. Some studies also showed that the combination of betel leaves extract and essential oil with antibiotics (streptomycin, chloramphenicol and gentamicin) could provide potentiating antibacterial properties. Moreover, this review delivers a scientific resume for researchers in respected areas and manufacturers who want to develop betel leaves-based products.  相似文献

The kinetics of oxidation of ethanolamines, monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), and triethanolamine (TEA), by sodium N‐bromobenzenesulfonamide or bromamine‐B (BAB) in alkaline buffer medium (pH 8.7–12.2) has been studied at 40°C. The three reactions follow identical kinetics with first‐order in [oxidant] and fractional‐order each in [substrate] and [OH?]. Under comparable experimental conditions, the rate of oxidation increases in the order: DEA > TEA > MEA. The added reaction product, benzenesulfonamide, retards the reaction rate. The addition of halide ions and the variation of ionic strength of the medium have no significant effect on the rate. The dielectric effect is negative. The solvent isotope effect k′(H2O)/k′(D2O) ≈ 0.92. Activation parameters for the composite reaction and for the rate‐limiting step were computed from the Eyring plots. Michaelis‐Menten type of kinetics is observed. The formation and decomposition constants of ethanolamine‐BAB complexes are evaluated. An isokinetic relationship is observed with β = 430 K indicating that enthalpy factors control the rate. The kinetics of oxidation of methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, and n-butyl acetates to acetic acid and the corresponding aldehyde by the title oxidant in aqueous HCl medium at 40°C has been studied. The reaction shows first-order with respect to [oxidant] and fractional orders in [H+] and [ester]. An isokinetic relationship was observed with β = 374 K indicating enthalpy as the rate controlling factor. Attempts have been made to arrive at a linear free energy relationship through the Taft treatment. Electron releasing groups in the ester moiety increase the rate with ρ* = ?9.88. A two-pathway mechanism, consistent with the observed kinetic data, has been proposed. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Kinetics of oxidation of indigo carmine (IC) by sodium hypohalites, NaOX (X ? Cl or Br), in alkaline buffer of pH 9–11 has been studied spectrophotometrically at λ = 610 nm. The experimental rate law obtained is ?d[IC]/dt = k[OX?][IC][OH?]x where x <1. Variation of ionic strength or dielectric constant of the medium had no effect on the reaction rate while the addition of halide ions slightly retarded the rate. A most plausible mechanism proposed on the basis of experimental results involves the formation of isatin sulphonate which undergoes further oxidation to anthranilate. Sodium N-chlorobenzenesulfonamide (chloramine-B, CAB), sodium N-bromo-p-toluenesulfonamide (bromamine-T, BAT) and N,N′-dibromo-p-toluenesulfonamide (dibromamine-T, DBT) are employed as analytical reagents for estimating indigocarmine (IC) in solution. A four-electron stoichiometry is observed within 30 min in the following media: CAB, 0.1–1.0 N HCl or H2SO4 and pH 1 buffer; BAT, 0.01–0.10 N NaOH; DBT, glacial acetic acid. The back titration methods are fairly rapid, simple, and accurate. The product of oxidation, isatinsulfonate, was estimated by spectrophotometric measurements at 410 nm. The sulfonamides formed by reduction of the haloamines are detected by TLC and paper chromatography.  相似文献

Several open-source hardware and software technologies (RAMPS, Python, PySerial, OpenCV) were used to control an automated flow chemical synthesis system. The system was used to effect the synthesis of a series of benzamides. An inexpensive Raspberry Pi single board computer provided an electronic interface between the control computer and the RAMPS motor driver boards.  相似文献

In cell development, the cell cycle is crucial, and the cycle progression’s main controllers are endogenous CDK inhibitors, cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), and cyclins. In response to the mitogenic signal, cyclin D is produced and retinoblastoma protein (Rb) is phosphorylated due to activated CDK4/CDK6. This causes various proteins required in the cell cycle progression to be generated. In addition, complexes of CDK1-cyclin A/B, CDK2-cyclin E/A, and CDK4/CDK6-cyclin D are required in each phase of this progression. Cell cycle dysregulation has the ability to lead to cancer. Based on its role in the cell cycle, CDK has become a natural target of anticancer therapy. Therefore, understanding the CDK structures and the complex formed with the drug, helps to foster the development of CDK inhibitors. This development starts from non-selective CDK inhibitors to selective CDK4/CDK6 inhibitors, and these have been applied in clinical cancer treatment. However, these inhibitors currently require further development for various hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, based on the results demonstrated. In drug development, the main strategy is primarily to prevent and asphyxiate drug resistance, thus a determination of specific biomarkers is required to increase the therapy’s effectiveness as well as patient selection suitability in order to avoid therapy failure. This review is expected to serve as a reference for early and advanced-stage researchers in designing new molecules or repurposing existing molecules as CDK4/CDK6 inhibitors to treat breast cancer.  相似文献

Natural polymer is a frequently used polymer in various food applications and pharmaceutical formulations due to its benefits and its biocompatibility compared to synthetic polymers. One of the natural polymer groups (i.e., polysaccharide) does not only function as an additive in pharmaceutical preparations, but also as an active ingredient with pharmacological effects. In addition, several natural polymers offer potential distinct applications in gene delivery and genetic engineering. However, some of these polymers have drawbacks, such as their lack of water retention and elasticity. Sacran, one of the high-molecular-weight natural polysaccharides (megamolecular polysaccharides) derived from Aphanothece sacrum (A. sacrum), has good water retention and elasticity. Historically, sacran has been used as a dietary food. Moreover, sacran can be applied in biomedical fields as an active material, excipient, and genetic engineering material. This article discusses the characteristics, extraction, isolation procedures, and the use of sacran in food and biomedical applications.  相似文献

Kinetics of oxidation of cinnamaldehyde (Cinn) by chloramine-T (CAT) has been studied in solutions containing HCl and H2SO4 at 313 K. The respective experimental rate laws obtained in HCl and H2SO4 media are as follows: and Here the value of x varies from 0.9 to zero while the values of y and z are 0.83 and 0.72, respectively. Effects, on the reaction rate, of ionic strength, reaction product (p-toluenesulfonamide), dielectric constant of the solvent medium, and the anions, Cl and SO42−, have been investigated. Activation parameters have been computed, based on the rate constants determined at different temperatures. Mechanisms proposed and the rate laws derived are consistent with the observed kinetic data represented by the experimental rate laws.  相似文献
