Fixed Points,Continuous Selections,and Existence of Solution of Optimization-Related Problems

We propose a definition of a generalized type of Knaster–Kuratowski–Mazurkiewicz (KKM) mappings, called a weak T-KKM mapping, and a corresponding weak KKM property. A new extension of the Fan–Glicksberg fixed-point theorem is established. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a continuous selection, a fixed point of a composition, and a coincidence point are also provided. Then, we use the obtained results to study the existence of solutions to various optimization-related problems. Discussions and detailed examples are included as well to compare our results with existing ones and to explain their advantages in many situations.

On the derivation of the entropy of ideal quantum gases confined in a three-dimensional harmonic potential

In this work,the entropy functions of ideal quantum gases in a three-dimensional harmonic trap are analytically calculated using temperature as an explicit variable.Afterward,the applicability of the analytical formulas is validated by comparison with the numerical calculation.The results illustrate that the obtained functions could be applied for the whole temperature regime with a maximum relative deviation of less than 7.5%in the vicinity of the critical temperature Tcin the case of Bose gases.Meanwhile,for Fermi gases,although the analytical formula fits well at very low-and high-temperature regimes,it cannot be applied at temperature in the range[0.3-0.5]T_F,where T_F is the Fermi temperature.In addition,the consistency between our formulas and classical ones at significantly high temperatures is also discussed.     

Straightforward access to new vinca-alkaloids via selective reduction of a nitrile containing anhydrovinblastine derivative

A procedure to exclusively obtain 3′S-cyanoanhydrovinblastine 12 from two naturally occurring vinca-alkaloids (catharanthine and vindoline) in one step with good yield is described. Stereoselective reductions of 12, providing straightforward access to three new vinca-alkaloids, including two diastereomers 3′S-cyano-(4′R,5′-dihydro)-anhydrovinblastine and 3′S-cyano-(4′S,5′-dihydro)-anhydrovinblastine as well as (3′S-aminomethyl)-(4′S,5′-dihydro)-anhydrovinblastine in good yields is also reported.     

Fast Li-Ion Conduction in Spinel-Structured Solids

Spinel-structured solids were studied to understand if fast Li⁺ ion conduction can be achieved with Li occupying multiple crystallographic sites of the structure to form a “Li-stuffed” spinel, and if the concept is applicable to prepare a high mixed electronic-ionic conductive, electrochemically active solid solution of the Li⁺ stuffed spinel with spinel-structured Li-ion battery electrodes. This could enable a single-phase fully solid electrode eliminating multi-phase interface incompatibility and impedance commonly observed in multi-phase solid electrolyte–cathode composites. Materials of composition Li_1.25M(III)_0.25TiO₄, M(III) = Cr or Al were prepared through solid-state methods. The room-temperature bulk Li⁺-ion conductivity is 1.63 × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ for the composition Li_1.25Cr_0.25Ti_1.5O₄. Addition of Li₃BO₃ (LBO) increases ionic and electronic conductivity reaching a bulk Li⁺ ion conductivity averaging 6.8 × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹, a total Li-ion conductivity averaging 4.2 × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹, and electronic conductivity averaging 3.8 × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ for the composition Li_1.25Cr_0.25Ti_1.5O₄ with 1 wt. % LBO. An electrochemically active solid solution of Li_1.25Cr_0.25Mn_1.5O₄ and LiNi_0.5Mn_1.5O₄ was prepared. This work proves that Li-stuffed spinels can achieve fast Li-ion conduction and that the concept is potentially useful to enable a single-phase fully solid electrode without interphase impedance.

Instability and friction

A review on the stability analysis of solids in unilateral and frictional contact is given. The presentation is focussed on the stability of an equilibrium position of an elastic solid in frictional contact with a fixed or moving obstacle. The problem of divergence instability and the obtention of a criterion of static stability are discussed first for the case of a fixed obstacle. The possibility of flutter instability is then considered for a steady sliding equilibrium with a moving obstacle. The steady sliding solution is generically unstable by flutter and leads to a dynamic response which can be chaotic or periodic. This dynamic response leads to the generation of stick–slip–separation waves on the contact surface in a similar way as Schallamach waves in statics. Illustrating examples and principal results recently obtained in the literature are reported. Some problems of friction-induced vibration and noise emittence, such as brake squeal for example, can be interpreted in this spirit. To cite this article: Q.S. Nguyen, C. R. Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Efficiency Via Convexificators

Based on the extended Ljusternik Theorem by Jiménez-Novo, necessary conditions for weak Pareto minimum of multiobjective programming problems involving inequality, equality and set constraints in terms of convexificators are established. Under assumptions on generalized convexity, necessary conditions for weak Pareto minimum become sufficient conditions.
