Silica-supported l-proline organocatalysts for asymmetric aldolisation

New heterogenised silica-based organocatalysts have been prepared via the sol–gel process from two silylated derivatives of l-proline, featuring either a carbamate or an ether linker. Co-gelification with variable amounts of TEOS was performed with and without porogen to yield high surface area solids. These materials were evaluated as heterogeneous phase organocatalysts for the asymmetric aldol reaction of p-nitrobenzaldehyde with acetone.     

Multipolarity of the continuum γ-rays in 152Dy and 160Er via linear polarisation measurements

The multipolarity of the continuum transitions in ¹⁵²Dy and ¹⁶⁰Er has been deduced from γ-ray linear polarisation and angular distribution measurements. The yrast part for ¹⁶⁰Er agrees with the predicted stretched E2 cascade. The statistical parts for both ¹⁵²Dy and ¹⁶⁰Er consist of a mixture of dipolar stretched and non-stretched transitions, predominantly of electrical character. Below 1.5 MeV, the data of ¹⁵²Dy exhibit a different structure, and reveal a stretched M1 component in the low-energy region.     

Design of a combined ozone/electron beam process for waste water and economic feasibility of the process

A design of a combined ozone/electron beam irradiation process for treating a 50 m³/h waste water stream from a molasses processing is discussed. Moreover, a cost evaluation of such a process in comparison to a conventional ozonation/biology treatment process has been performed to assess the potential of the irradiation process for technical use. Although the result of this comparison is not bad for the irradiation process an implementation into a full scale plant would not seem to be the thing to do in the present case.     

Magnetic moment of the 2543 keV 7+ state in 40K

The nuclear g-factor of the 2543 keV, 7⁺ state ⁴⁰K has been measured as g = 0.59 ± 0.10. Time-integral perturbed angular distributions were measured in an external magnetic field and, after implantation, in the hyperfine field at potassium in nickel. The experimental value is discussed within the $\text{f}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>7</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}{}^2\text{and}\text{d}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>3</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}{}^{\mathrm{?2}}\text{f}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>7</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}{}^2$, configurations.     

The unusual strenght of the 5.14 → 1.27 MeV, 2− → 2+, transition in 22Ne

The lifetime of the 5.14 MeV excited state of ²²Ne was investigated by use of the electronic timing, recoil distance and Doppler shift attenuation techniques. A mean life τ = 1.2±0.3 ps was obtained, corresponding to a transition strenght of 9.8 × 10^?6W.u. for the El decay of this state.     

Lifetime of the second excited state of K

Energy distributions of neutrons from the (d, n) reactions on ^12–14C leading to unbound states of ^13–15N have been measured at 6.3 or 6.5 MeV deuteron energy. Angular distributions have been extracted for ^{13, 14}C(d, n) transitions and analysed with DWBA using the extra-polation technique to give l-values and transition strengths for ten unbound states in ¹⁴N and six in ¹⁵N. For the ¹⁵N level at 10.541 MeV it is concluded that J^π is $\text{3}\text{2}$^?. A new ¹⁵N level is observed at 11.44 MeV. The 0° (d, n) cross sections have been set in proportion to (p, p₀) resonance cross sections, and a pronounced l-dependence of the ratio is obtained.
