Kaon production in\bar pp interactions at c.m. energies from 200 to 900 GeV

A detailed analysis ofK _s ⁰ production in \(\bar pp\) |<2.5 the average transverse momentum is found to be 0.53±0.07 GeV/c at 200 GeV and 0.62±0.08 GeV/c at 900 GeV, which is an increase with respect to data at c.m. energies below 60 GeV. TheK _s ⁰ production cross sections in inelastic collisions are 29±4 mb at 200 GeV and 63±6 mb at 900 GeV, showing an increase compared to lower energy data. The central kaon density is found to increase as a logarithmic function of energy. At 900 GeV, where statistics are sufficient to allow one to draw conclusions, the average transverse momentum is higher in events with large charged multiplicity than in events with low multiplicity.     

On the structure of the nucleon optical potential

The structure of the nucleon generalized optical potential (GOP) is investigated in the framework of Green's function (GF) theory. First an exact relation between its imaginary part and the total reaction cross section is derived. In the second part the GOP is decomposed using a kind of projection formalism which enables to couple in the continuum in successive steps. This is achieved by splitting up the one particle GF into a discrete and a continuous part and by summing up all contributions to the GOP containing a given numbern0 continuum propagators. Three expressions are extracted corresponding to different processes involving the scattering of at most two particles in the continuum in intermediate states. The remaining terms are argued to be small. Further support for retaining only the above three terms is given by evaluating the diagonal element of their imaginary part between the exact eigenstates of the GOP. This is shown to be approximately proportional to the sum of the total inelastic, charge exchange, pick-up and knockout cross sections. The corresponding matrix element of the exact potential is proportional to the total reaction cross section.

However, episodic memory for emotional music compared with less emotional music has not yet been examined. We investigated whether emotional music is remembered better than less emotional music. Also, we examined the influence of musical structure on memory performance.

Equivalence of the Metaplectic Representation with Sums of Wavelet Representations for a Class of Subgroups of the Symplectic Group

Equivalence of the metaplectic representation with a sum of affine representations is discussed for a class of subgroups of the symplectic group. The paper begins with a study of sums of wavelet transforms, and it is shown that the usual admissibility conditions for the wavelet transform apply to transforms by sums of affine representations as well. A construction of admissible vectors, bandlimited admissible vectors and frames for sums of affine representations by means of transversals is given. A class of subgroups of the symplectic group which are compact extensions affine groups are identified, and it is shown how subrepresentations of the metaplectic representation can be equivalent to affine representations. This equivalence is illuminated by several examples.     

Charged particle multiplicity distributions at 200 and 900 GeV c.m. energy

Multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced in non single-diffractive collisions between protons and antiprotons at centre of mass energies of 200 and 900 GeV are presented. The data were recorded in the UA5 streamer chambers at the CERN Collider, which was operated in a pulsed mode between the two energies. A new method to correct for acceptance limitations and inefficiencies based on the principle of maximum entropy has been used. Multiplicity distributions in full phase space and in intervals of pseudorapidity are presented in tabular form. The violation of KNO scaling in full phase space found by the UA5 group at an energy of 546 GeV is confirmed also at 200 and 900 GeV. The shape of the 900 GeV distribution in full phase space is narrower in the peak region than at 200 GeV but exhibits a pronounced high multiplicity tail. The negative binomial distribution fits data at 200 GeV in all pseudorapidity intervals and in small intervals at 900 GeV. In large intervals at 900 GeV, however, the negative binomial distribution. Fits to the partially coherent laser distribution are also presented as well as comparisons with predictions of the Dual Parton, the Fritiof and the Pythia models.
