New catecholate complexes of triphenylantimony(V) based on 6-iminomethyl-3,5-di-<Emphasis Type="Italic">tert</Emphasis>-butylpyrocatechols N-functionalized by the aniline or phenol group

The following new triphenylantimony(V) catecholate complexes bearing the protonated imine group are synthesized from the new sterically hindered 3,5-di-tert-butylpyrocatechols (6-(CH=N-o-(C₆H₄–NH₂))-3,5-Cat)H₂ (H₂L¹) and (6-(CH=N-o-(C₆H₄–OH))-3,5-Cat)H₂ (H₂L²) containing in position 6 the iminomethyl group bonded to the aniline or phenol substituent: (6-(CH=NH⁺-o-(C₆H₄–NH₂))-3,5-Cat)SbPh₃X (X = Br (I), OMe (III)) and (6-(CH=NH⁺-o-(C₆H₄–OH))-3,5-Cat)SbPh₃X (X = Br (II), OMe (IV)). The molecular structure of complex III · CH ₃ OH in the crystalline state is determined by X-ray diffraction analysis (CIF file CCDC no. 1554694). The electrochemical properties of complexes III and IV are studied by cyclic voltammetry.

On the feedback solutions of differential oligopoly games with hyperbolic demand curve and capacity accumulation

To safeguard analytical tractability and the concavity of objective functions, the vast majority of models belonging to oligopoly theory relies on the restrictive assumption of linear demand functions. Here we lay out the analytical solution of a differential Cournot game with hyperbolic inverse demand, where firms accumulate capacity over time à la Ramsey. The subgame perfect equilibrium is characterized via the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equations solved in closed form both on infinite and on finite horizon setups. To illustrate the applicability of our model and its implications, we analyze the feasibility of horizontal mergers in both static and dynamic settings, and find appropriate conditions for their profitability under both circumstances. Static profitability of a merger implies dynamic profitability of the same merger. It appears that such a demand structure makes mergers more likely to occur than they would on the basis of the standard linear inverse demand.     

Alkoxylation of 3,6-di-<Emphasis Type="Italic">tert</Emphasis>-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone. New bis-1,2-benzoquinones

Alkoxylation of 3,6-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone with a number of diols, including propane-1,3-diol, butane-1,4-diol, di-, and triethylene glycols, and cyclohexane-1,4-diyldimethanol, was studied. Nine new 4-alkoxy-3,6-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinones were synthesized, four of which were bis-1,2-benzoquinones with different tethers (6–13 atoms) between the quinone fragments. Depending on the length of the chain between the hydroxy groups in glycols, bicyclic 4,5-disubstituted 3,6-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinones were formed or their stepwise alkoxylation occurred. The newly synthesized o-benzoquinone derivatives can be reduced with alkali metals to give radical anions and converted into semiquinone chelates with manganese carbonyl.     

Tunneling through a quantum dot in a quantum waveguide

The problem is considered of scattering in a system consisting of a quantum waveguide and a quantum dot weakly coupled to the waveguide. It is assumed that the quantum waveguide is described by the Pauli equations, and the Rashba spin-orbit interaction is taken into account. The possibility of tunneling through the quantum dot is proved.
