Synthesis and properties of poly(phenylacetylenes) having two polar groups or one cyclic polar group on the phenyl ring

Phenylacetylene (PA) derivatives having two polar groups (ester, 2a – d ; amide, 4) or one cyclic polar group (imide, 5a – c ) were polymerized using (nbd)Rh⁺[(η⁶‐C₆H₅)B^?(C₆H₅)₃] catalyst to afford high molecular weight polymers (～1 × 10⁶ – 4 × 10⁶). The hydrolysis of ester‐containing poly(PA), poly( 2a) , provided poly(3,4‐dicarboxyPA) [poly ( 3 )], which could not be obtained directly by the polymerization of the corresponding monomer. The solubility properties of the present polymers were different from those of poly(PA) having no polar group; that is, poly( 2a )–poly( 2d ) dissolved in ethyl acetate and poly( 4 ) dissolved in N,N‐dimethylformamide, while poly(PA) was insoluble in such solvents. Ester‐group‐containing polymers [poly( 2a )–poly( 2d )] afforded free‐standing membranes by casting from THF solutions. Tris(1‐ethyl‐3‐methyl­imidazolium) hexa­chloro­lanthanate

In the title complex, (C₆H₁₁N₂)₃[LaCl₆], centrosymmetric octahedral hexa­chloro­lanthanate anions are located at the corners and face‐centers of the monoclinic unit cell. The ring H atoms of the cations interact with the Cl atoms of the anions via hydrogen bonding, and bifurcation of the hydrogen bonding is observed. Cation–cation interactions via hydrogen bonding between the ring H atoms and π‐electrons of aromatic rings are also observed as in other imidazolium salts.     

Affinity chromatographic purification of bovine lung endothelin receptor using biotinylated endothelin and avidin-agarose.

Endothelin receptor was purified from bovine lung by affinity chromatography using biotinylated endothelin and avidin-agarose. Endothelin was biotinylated with sulphosuccinimidyl 2-(biotinamido)ethyl-1,3-dithiopropionate, a reactive form of biotin with a cleavable spacer arm containing a disulphide bond designed for a simple elution by thiols. Starting from 3.5 kg of bovine lung, about 200 micrograms of pure receptor were obtained.     

Single molecular multianalyte sensor: jewel pendant ligand

[structure: see text] The jewel pendant ligand has multiple chromogenic units combined in a single molecule with the dyes linked to a semiselective binding site by three heteroatoms (O, N, S) having different HSAB characteristics, to indicate diverse response to individual transition metal ions. Using a single-molecular multianalyte sensor, multiple analytes could be determined with a minimal sensing system.     

Diffusion coefficient of 36Cl in silver chloride

Diffusion coefficient of 36Cl in silver chloride was revealed to be about 1 x 10(-10)-4 x 10(-11) cm2 . s-1 in the range of 400 degrees C-200 degrees C by means of radioactive tracer measurements. Activation energy for diffusion was calculated about 0.13 eV. These results were different from those obtained by Maurer and Compton.     

Synthesis and antinociceptive activity of orally active opioid peptides: improvement of oral bioavailability by esterification

To improve the oral bioavailability of a dermorphin tetrapeptide analog, N(alpha)-1-iminoethyl-Tyr-D-MetO-Phe-MebetaAla-OH (III), which has a potent analgesic activity after oral administration, various derivatives were synthesized to increase lipophilicity by esterification of the C-terminal carboxyl group and/or acylation of the phenolic hydroxyl group on Tyr1. Antinociceptive activity was evaluated after subcutaneous or oral administration using the mouse tail pressure test. As a result, increased antinociceptive activity after oral administration as well as an improved ED50(p.o.)/ED50(s.c.) ratio, which is an indicator of oral bioavailability, were found for some compounds. With regard to the improvement of bioavailability, derivatives with acylation of the phenolic hydroxyl group on Tyr1 showed better results than derivatives with esterification of the C-terminal carboxyl group. In particular, an ED50(p.o.)/ED50(s.c.) ratio equivalent to that of morphine was found for an acetylated derivative, N(alpha)-1-iminoethyl-Tyr(COMe)-D-MetO-Phe-MebetaAla-OH (7a), as well as for a methoxycarbonylated derivative, N(alpha)-1-iminoethyl-Tyr(CO2Me)-D-MetO-Phe-MebetaAla-OH (7l).
