MoO2(acac)2-A Mild and Efficient Catalyst for the Deprotection of Acetals

Molybdenyl(VI) acetylacetonate is an effective catalyst for the deprotection of acetals into the corresponding aldehydes and ketones, in good yields.     

Enantioselective synthesis of spiro[4H-pyran-3,3′-oxindole] derivatives catalyzed by cinchona alkaloid thioureas: Significant water effects on the enantioselectivity

An efficient stereoselective three-component reaction for the synthesis of functionalized spiro[4H-pyran-3,3′-oxindole] derivatives was realized through an organocatalyzed domino Knoevenagel/Michael/cyclization reaction using a cinchonidine-derived thiourea as the catalyst. Using water as the additive was found to improve the product ee values significantly. Under the optimized conditions, the reactions between isatins, malononitrile, and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds yield the desired spirooxindole products in good yields (71–92%) and moderate to high ee values (up to 87% ee).

Development and validation of a liquid chromatographic method for the analysis of capreomycin sulfate and its related substances

A gradient LC method for the analysis of capreomycin sulfate and its related substances was developed. The chromatographic conditions include the use of a Hypersil base deactivated C₁₈ (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) column maintained at 25 °C, a mobile phase containing acetonitrile, phosphate buffer pH 2.3 and 0.025 M hexanesulfonate at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and UV detection performed at 268 nm. Good separation of the four active components of capreomycin and eleven unknown impurities was achieved. A system suitability test to check the quality of the separation is specified. The method shows good repeatability, linearity and robustness.     

A facile one-pot synthesis of β-keto sulfones from ketones under solvent-free conditions

An easy solvent-free method is described for the conversion of ketones into β-keto sulfones in high yields that involves the in situ generation of α-tosyloxyketones, followed by nucleophilic substitution with sodium arene sulfinate in the presence of tetra-butylammonium bromide at room temperature. The salient features of this one-pot protocol are short reaction times, cleaner reaction profiles, and simple work-up that precludes the use of toxic solvents.     

Solvent-free facile synthesis of novel α-tosyloxy β-keto sulfones using [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene

A facile, general and high yielding protocol for the synthesis of novel α-tosyloxy β-keto sulfones is described utilizing relatively non-toxic, [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene, under solvent-free conditions at room temperature.     

Loop Algebra of Lie symmetries for a short-wave equation

It is demonstrated that Lie point symmetries associated with a nonlinear equation for short waves in three dimensions generate an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra—a loop Algebra. Classification of the independent sets of the subalgebra is done through the adjoint action of the corresponding generators. Different forms of similarity solutions are discussed.     

Recyclable heterogeneous copper oxide on alumina catalyzed coupling of phenols and alcohols with aryl halides under ligand-free conditions

An efficient alumina-supported CuO-catalyzed O-arylation of phenols and aliphatic alcohols with various aryl as well as heteroaryl halides under ligand-free conditions are reported. This protocol provides a variety of diaryl ether and bis-diaryl ether motifs by reacting different aryl/aliphatic halides with differently substituted phenols and saturated alcohols in the presence of a catalytic amount of CuO on alumina and KOH as a base at moderate temperature under nitrogen atmosphere. The described methodology is simple, straightforward and efficient to afford the cross-coupled products in high yields under ligand-free conditions. The explored catalyst is inexpensive, air-stable and recyclable up to three cycles.
