Numerous ethical and societal issues are related to the development of nanotechnology. Among them, the risk for privacy has long been discussed. Some people say that technology is neutral and that it does not really change the nature of problems, which are mainly political, while others state that its contemporary developments considerably amplify them; there are even persons who assert that it will make privacy protection obsolete. This article discusses those different positions by making reference to the classical Panopticon that is an architecture for surveillance, which characterizes the total absence of privacy. It envisages the possible evolutions of the Panopticon due to the development of nanotechnologies. It shows that the influence of nanotechnology on privacy concerns cannot be dissociated from the influence of computers and biotechnologies, i.e. from what is currently called the NBIC convergence. Lastly, it concludes on the new ethical trade-off that has to be made between three contradictory requirements that are security, transparency and privacy.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to a method of extraction of guided waves phase velocities from experimental signals. Measurements are performed using an axial transmission device consisting of a linear arrangement of emitters and receivers placed on the surface of the inspected specimen. The technique takes benefit of using both multiple emitters and receivers and is validated on a reference wave guide. The guided mode phase velocities are obtained using a projection in the singular vectors basis. The singular vectors are determined by the singular values decomposition (SVD) of the response matrix between the two arrays in the frequency domain. This technique enables to recover accurately guided wave phase velocity dispersion curves. The SVD based approach was designed to overcome limitations of spatio-temporal Fourier transform for receiver array of limited spatial extent as in the case of clinical assessment of cortical bone in axial transmission.  相似文献

Chen's lemma on iterated integrals implies that certain identities involving multiple integrals, such as the de Bruijn and Wick formulas, amount to combinatorial identities for Pfaffians and Hafnians in shuffle algebras. We provide direct algebraic proofs of such shuffle identities, and obtain various generalizations. We also discuss some Pfaffian identities due to Sundquist and Ishikawa–Wakayama, and a Cauchy formula for anticommutative symmetric functions. Finally, we extend some of the previous considerations to hyper-Pfaffians and hyper-Hafnians.  相似文献

Robust signal processing methods adapted to clinical measurements of guided modes are required to assess bone properties such as cortical thickness and porosity. Recently, an approach based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) of multidimensional signals recorded with an axial transmission array of emitters and receivers has been proposed for materials with negligible absorption, see Minonzio et al. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 127, 2913-2919 (2010)]. In presence of absorption, the ability to extract guided mode degrades. The objective of the present study is to extend the method to the case of absorbing media, considering attenuated plane waves (complex wavenumber). The guided mode wavenumber extraction is enhanced and the order of magnitude of the attenuation of the guided mode is estimated. Experiments have been carried out on 2 mm thick plates in the 0.2-2 MHz bandwidth. Two materials are inspected: polymethylacrylate (PMMA) (isotropic with absorption) and artificial composite bones (Sawbones, Pacific Research Laboratory Inc, Vashon, WA) which is a transverse isotropic absorbing medium. Bulk wave velocities and bulk attenuation have been evaluated from transmission measurements. These values were used to compute theoretical Lamb mode wavenumbers which are consistent with the experimental ones obtained with the SVD-based approach.  相似文献

The femoral neck cortical shell was recently demonstrated to act like a waveguide for circumferential waves. Femoral neck assessment with ultrasound could be enhanced by guided waves measurement. In this study, the decomposition of the time reversal operator (DORT) method is used to measure the phase velocities of circumferential guided modes in a circular tube with dimensions characteristic of femoral neck. The tube is made of a bone-mimicking material. Five guided modes are obtained and compared to theoretical predictions. The work substantiates the feasibility of measuring guided waves in a relatively thick tube of attenuating material with the DORT method.  相似文献

We extend to several combinatorial Hopf algebras the endomorphism of symmetric functions sending the first power-sum to zero and leaving the other ones invariant. As a “transformation of alphabets”, this is the (1-\mathbbE)(1-\mathbb{E})-transform, where \mathbbE\mathbb{E} is the “exponential alphabet,” whose elementary symmetric functions are en=\frac1n!e_{n}=\frac{1}{n!}. In the case of noncommutative symmetric functions, we recover Schocker’s idempotents for derangement numbers (Schocker, Discrete Math. 269:239–248, 2003). From these idempotents, we construct subalgebras of the descent algebras analogous to the peak algebras and study their representation theory. The case of WQSym leads to similar subalgebras of the Solomon–Tits algebras. In FQSym, the study of the transformation boils down to a simple solution of the Tsetlin library in the uniform case.  相似文献

A rigid 24-element source-receiver array in the 10-15 kHz frequency band, connected to a programmable electronic system, was deployed in the Bay of Brest during spring 2005. In this 10- to 18-m-deep environment, backscattered data from submerged targets were recorded. Successful detection and focusing experiments in very shallow water using the decomposition of the time reversal operator (DORT method) are shown. The ability of the DORT method to separate the echo of a target from reverberation as well as the echo from two different targets at 250 m is shown. An example of active focusing within the waveguide using the first invariant of the time reversal operator is presented, showing the enhanced focusing capability. Furthermore, the localization of the scatterers in the water column is obtained using a range-dependent acoustic model.  相似文献

The development of novel quantitative ultrasound (QUS) techniques to measure the hip is critically dependent on the possibility to simulate the ultrasound propagation. One specificity of hip QUS is that ultrasounds propagate through a large thickness of soft tissue, which can be modeled by a homogeneous fluid in a first approach. Finite difference time domain (FDTD) algorithms have been widely used to simulate QUS measurements but they are not adapted to simulate ultrasonic propagation over long distances in homogeneous media. In this paper, an hybrid numerical method is presented to simulate hip QUS measurements. A two-dimensional FDTD simulation in the vicinity of the bone is coupled to the semi-analytic calculation of the Rayleigh integral to compute the wave propagation between the probe and the bone. The method is used to simulate a setup dedicated to the measurement of circumferential guided waves in the cortical compartment of the femoral neck. The proposed approach is validated by comparison with a full FDTD simulation and with an experiment on a bone phantom. For a realistic QUS configuration, the computation time is estimated to be sixty times less with the hybrid method than with a full FDTD approach.  相似文献

The crystal structure of CeMgNi4 intermetallic compound has been studied by both X-ray and neutron diffraction. Rietveld refinement shows that both 4a and 4c sites are occupied by Ce and Mg. The exchange has been evaluated to be about 15%. The hydrogenation of the sample leads to a decomposition and to the formation of CeH2.52. Ab initio calculations using pseudo-potential and all-electron DFT methods are performed to explain such an unexpected behaviour. They predict a larger stability of the hydride system in the orthorhombic structure rather than in the cubic one. Anti-bonding Ce–H interactions within the hydride are proposed to assess the observed easy decomposition. Moreover, the metastability introduced by mechanosynthesis (i.e. exchange between Ce and Mg) was also evaluated.  相似文献
