The method of density matching between the solid and liquid phases is often adopted to effectively eliminate the effect of sedimentation of suspensions in studies on dynamic behaviour of a colloidal system. However, the associated changes in the solvent composition may bring side effects to the properties investigated and therefore might lead to a faulty conclusion if the relevant correction is not made. To illustrate the importance of this side effect, we present an example of the sedimentation influence on the coagulation rate of suspensions of 2μm (diameter) polystyrene. The liquid mixtures, in the proper proportions of water (H2O), deuterium oxide (D2O) and methanol (MeOH) as the liquid phase, density-matched and unmatched experiments are performed. Besides the influence of viscosity, the presence of methanol in solvent media, used to enhance the sedimentation effect, causes significant changes (reduction) in rapid coagulation rates compared to that in pure water. Without the relevant corrections for those non-gravitational factors it seems that gravitational sedimentation would retard the coagulation. The magnitude of the contribution from the non-gravitational factor is quantitatively determined, making the relevant correction possible. After necessary the influence of the sedimentation on coagulation rates at corrections for all factors, our experiments show that the initial stage of the coagulation is not observable.  相似文献

We discuss the notion of spin squeezing considering two mutually exclusive classes of spin-s states, namely, oriented and non-oriented states. Our analysis shows that the oriented states are not squeezed while non-oriented states exhibit squeezing. We also present a new scheme for construction of spin-s states using 2s spinors oriented along different axes. Taking the case of s=1, we show that the ‘non-oriented’ nature and hence squeezing arise from the intrinsic quantum correlations that exist among the spinors in the coupled state.  相似文献

A novel series of quinoline azodyes (5-(4'-derivatives phenyldiazo)-8-hydroxy-7-quinolinecarboxaldehyde)) (HL1-HL5) has been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, 1H-NMR and IR spectra. The IR spectral data indicate that the compounds can exist in two resonance structures. Proton-ligand dissociation constants of quinoline azodyes and their subsituted derivatives, and metal-ligand stability constants of their complexes with bivalent (Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+) metal ions have been determined potentiometrically in 0.1 m KCl and 40% (v/v) dimethylformamide (DMF)-water mixture. The influence of substituents on the dissociation and stability constants was examined on the basis of the electron repelling property of the substituent. The order of the stability constants of the formed complexes was found to be Mn2+ < Co2+ < Ni2+ < Cu2+. The effect of temperature was studied and the corresponding thermodynamic parameters (deltaG, deltaH, deltaS) were derived and discussed. The stoichiometries of these complexes were determined conductometrically and indicated the formation of 1:1 and 1:2 (metal:ligand) complexes was indicated.  相似文献

A new series of CoII, NiII and CuII complexes derived from N-picolinamido-N-benzoylthiocarbamide has been prepared in which the Schiff base ligand is tridentate and/or bidentate, containing a potential ONS donor. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, 1H-n.m.r., magnetic susceptibility, i.r., u.v., e.p.r. and thermal analyses. Stereochemistries are proposed for the complexes on the basis of the spectral and magnetic studies. The i.r. data indicate that the carbonyl oxygen of the benzoyl moiety constituents chelating backbone in most complexes.  相似文献

The reaction on 8-hydroxy quinoline-7-aldehyde azo compounds (HL n ) (where n = 1–5) with 4-amino-1,2-dihydro-2,3-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5-one to obtain HL n (where n = 6–10) have been characterized by means of TLC, melting point and spectral data, such as IR, 1H NMR, mass spectra and thermal studies. The X-ray diffraction patterns of two starting materials 8-hydroxy quinoline-7-aldehyde (start 1), 4-amino-1,2-dihydro-2,3-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5-one (start 2) and the ligands (HL5,10) are investigated in powder form. All the ligands have been screened for their antimicrobial activity against four local bacterial species, two Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) and two Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae) as well as against four local fungi; Aspergillus niger, Alternaria alternata, Penicillium italicum and Fusarium oxysporium. The results show that the azo ligands (HL n ) (where n = 1–5) have no antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi while most azomethine ligands (HL n ) (where n = 6–10) are good antibacterial agents against E. coli and K. pneumoniae as well as antifungal agents against P. italicum and A. alternata. The results were compared to standard substances (start 1) and (start 2). Among the azomethine ligands, HL10 was the most effective against the most microorganisms tested. The size of clear zone was ordered as p-(OCH3 < CH3 < H < Cl < NO2) as expected from Hammett’s constant (σ R ). Also, the ultrastructure study of the affected bacteria confirmed that HL8 is good antibacterial agent against E. coli and S. aureus.  相似文献

Several dioxouranium(VI) heterochelates with tetradentate monobasic hydrazone compounds (HL(n)) have been synthesized. The heterochelates of the type [(UO2)2(HL(n))(L(n))2(OAc)2(OH2)2]n have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, IR and electronic spectra, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complexes are polymeric, non-electrolytes, diamagnetic and eight-coordinated. Wilson, G.F. matrix method, Badger's formula, Jones and El-Sonbati equations were used to determine the stretching and interaction force constants from which the U-O bond distances were calculated. The bond distances of these complexes were also investigated.  相似文献
