Random Permutations of a Regular Lattice

Spatial random permutations were originally studied due to their connections to Bose–Einstein condensation, but they possess many interesting properties of their own. For random permutations of a regular lattice with periodic boundary conditions, we prove existence of the infinite volume limit under fairly weak assumptions. When the dimension of the lattice is two, we give numerical evidence of a Kosterlitz–Thouless transition, and of long cycles having an almost sure fractal dimension in the scaling limit. Finally we comment on possible connections to Schramm–Löwner curves.     

Locked by Design: A Conformationally Constrained Transglutaminase Tag Enables Efficient Site‐Specific Conjugation

Based on the crystal structure of a natural protein substrate for microbial transglutaminase, an enzyme that catalyzes protein crosslinking, a recognition motif for site‐specific conjugation was rationally designed. Conformationally locked by an intramolecular disulfide bond, this structural mimic of a native conjugation site ensured efficient conjugation of a reporter cargo to the therapeutic monoclonal antibody cetuximab without erosion of its binding properties.     

Recent advances in oxidation catalysis using ionic liquids as solvents

Ionic liquids are an interesting alternative to classical solvents presenting several advantages. A variety of catalysts show good or even enhanced activities when applied in ionic liquids. Oxidation catalysis represents a large segment of industrial chemistry, providing both bulk chemicals and intermediates for high value added special products and pharmaceuticals. Particularly for the latter products organometallic and inorganic catalysts are being developed that can be applied in systems consisting of or containing ionic liquids. This work provides an overview on recent developments in this field.     

Spatial Random Permutations and Infinite Cycles

We consider systems of spatial random permutations, where permutations are weighed according to the point locations. Infinite cycles are present at high densities. The critical density is given by an exact expression. We discuss the relation between the model of spatial permutations and the ideal and interacting quantum Bose gas.     

From kinetic theory to dissipative fluid dynamics

We present the results of deriving the Israel-Stewart equations of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics from kinetic theory via Grad’s 14-moment expansion. Working consistently to second order in the Knudsen number, these equations contain several new terms which are absent in previous treatments.
