A novel ion selective membrane potentiometric sensor for direct determination of Fe(III) in the presence of Fe(II)

A new PVC membrane potentiometric sensor that is highly selective to Fe(III) ions was prepared by using 2-[(2-hydroxy-1-propenyl-buta-1,3-dienylimino)-methyl]-4-p-tolylazo-phenol [HPDTP] as a suitable carrier. The electrode exhibits a linear response for iron(III) ions over a wide concentration range (3.5 × 10⁻⁶ to 4.0 × 10⁻²) with a super Nernstian slope of 28.5 (±0.5) per decade. The electrode can be used in the pH range from 4.5 to 6.5. The proposed sensor shows fairly a good discriminating ability towards Fe³⁺ ion in comparison to some hard and soft metals such as Fe²⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Al³⁺ and Ca²⁺. It has a response time of <15 s and can be used for at least 2 months without any measurable divergence in response characteristics. The electrode was used in the direct determination of Fe³⁺ in aqueous samples and as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titration of Fe(III) ions.

Crystal structure and DFT calculations of methanol {E-N′-(2-hydroxybenzlidene)benzohydrazido}dioxidomolybdenum (VI) complex

The crystal and molecular structure of methanol {E-N′-(2-hydroxybenzlidene)benzohydrazido}dioxidomolybdenum (VI) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. B3LYP/DZP basis set theoretical calculations nicely reproduce the X-ray experimental geometry. The obtained results are discussed in connection with the electronic and structural properties of the compound.     

Anodic stripping voltammetry of silver(I) using a carbon paste electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes

We describe a silver(I)-selective carbon paste electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes and a silver-chelating Schiff base, and its electrochemical response to Ag(I). Effects of reduction potential and time, accumulation time, pH of the solution and the stripping medium were studied by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry and optimized. The findings resulted in a method for the determination of silver over a linear response range (from 0.5 to 235 ng?mL^?1) and with a detection limit as low as 0.08 ng?mL^?1. The sensor displays good repeatability (with the RSD of ±?2.75 % for 7 replicates) and was applied to the determination of Ag(I) in water samples and X-ray photographic films.

Nuclear data for the cyclotron production of ~（117）Sb and ~（90）Nb

This presented study is to make comparison of cross sections to produce ¹¹⁷Sb and ⁹⁰Nb via different reactions with particle incident energy up to 70 MeV as a part of systematic studies on particle-induced activations on enriched Sn, Y₂O₃ and ZrO₂ targets, theoretical calculation of production yield, calculation of required thickness of target and suggestion of optimum reaction to produce Antimony-117 and Niobium-90.     

Quantum chemical investigation with combined X-ray structural study for a N<Subscript>3</Subscript>-donor set Schiff base compound

The synthesis, characterization, and molecular structural properties of a Schiff base complex with 2,6-diacetyl pyridine are reported. The quantum chemical study with combined X-ray data for a tridentate Schiff base ligands are presented. All calculations were performed by using ab initio calculations as implement in the Gaussian-03 program package, and full geometry optimization was used in the gas phase. The Mulliken population study shows three nitrogen atoms in this structure in the coordination sites for binding to the metal ions. The article was submitted by the author in English.     

Melamine-(H_2SO_4)_3 and PVP-(H_2SO_4)_n as solid acids:Synthesis and application in the first mono-and di-nitration of bisphenol A and other phenols

Melamine and poly vinylpyrrolidone（PVP） reacted with neat sulfuric acid readily to form two new organic solid acids namely melamine-（H₂SO₄）₃ and PVP-（H₂SO₄）_n.These solid acids were used for the first nitration of bisphenol A as well as other phenols in the presence of NH₄NO₃.Mono- and di-nitro bisphenol A have been characterized with IR and ¹H NMR techniques.     

P-Dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid(DBSA),a Brфnsted acid-surfactant catalyst for Biginelli reaction in water and under solvent free conditions

We report herein the use of p-dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid(DBSA) as a catalyst for a one-pot Biginelli reaction to afford 3,4- dihydropyrimidinone derivatives in good to excellent yields.This reaction proceeds efficiently in water and under solvent free conditions.Comparisons of results indicate that although the yields are high and comparable for both methods,the reaction times are considerably shorter under solvent free conditions.
