Electrical phenomena at nonionogenic hydrophobic surfaces (solid or liquid) in water, electrolyte, and/or surfactant solutions still attract research. In part 1 of this paper we described the electrokinetic behavior of paraffin wax suspension in water and electrolyte solutions (NaCl or LaCl3). On the basis of the latest data of water structure near hydrophobic surfaces it was concluded that immobilized water dipoles at the interface can play an essential role in the zeta potential formation. In this paper were investigated the zeta potentials of paraffin wax in cationic surfactants cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, C16H33(CH3)3NBr, and octadecyltrimethylammonium chloride, C18H37(CH3)3NCl, and anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate, C12H25SO4Na. Also changes in wettability of the paraffin surface due to the surfactant's adsorption were studied via wetting contact angle measurements and calculation of the surface free energy. It was concluded that at a low surfactant concentration (10(-6) M) the water dipole structure still contributes to the zeta potential, but at a higher one the zeta potential is determined by the surfactant molecules' adsorption. A special role of OH- ions is also clearly seen. Moreover, a functional relationship was found between the surface free energy of the surfactant-covered paraffin surface and the zeta potential.  相似文献

The adsorption of sodium dodecyl sulfate to colloidal titanium dioxide was investigated using the electrophoretic fingerprinting approach. An electrophoretic fingerprint is a contour diagram of the observed electrophoretic mobility as a function of the bulk solution pH and plambda, the log of the bulk solution conductivity. Surfactant adsorption was observed to be strong under acidic conditions, as illustrated in the dramatic changes in the electrophoretic fingerprints. Electrokinetic data were compared with adsorption isotherm data obtained by a depletion method and good qualitative agreement was found. The observed pH changes associated with surfactant adsorption suggested ligand exchange as a possible mechanism of adsorption. Electrophoretic fingerprinting was shown to be a powerful means of examining surfactant adsorption to colloidal particles. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献

Nature of contact angle hysteresis is discussed basing on the literature data (Colloids Surf. A 189 (2001) 265) of dynamic advancing and receding contact angles of n-alkanes and n-alcohols on a very smooth surface of 1,1,2,-trichloro-1,2,2,-trifluoroethane (FC-732) film deposited on a silicon plate. The authors considered the liquid absorption and/or retention (swelling) processes responsible for the observed hysteresis. In this paper hysteresis is considered to be due to the liquid film left behind the drop during retreating of its contact line. Using the contact angle hysteresis an approach is suggested for evaluation of the solid surface free energy. Molecular spacing and the film structure are discussed to explain the difference in n-alkanes and n-alcohols behaviour as well as to explain the difference between dispersion free energy gamma(s)(d) and total surface free energy gamma(s)(tot) of FC-732, as determined from the advancing contact angles and the hysteresis, respectively.  相似文献

Radioactivity of 90Sr and 137Cs in several species of herbs collected at Fajsawice and Góra Puawska located in Lublin (Poland) region was examined. Depending on the type of herb the radioactivity of strontium ranged from 0.004 to 1.808 Bq/kg dry weight whereas that from cesium varied from 0.053 to 9.853 Bq/kg. Calculated transfer factors of the radioisotopes in the plants studied revealed much stronger accumulation of strontium than cesium. Concentration of calcium and potassium in these plants has no influence on the concentration of measured radioisotopes.  相似文献

The interaction of fumed silica A-300 (S(BET) = 297 m2 g(-1)) with bovine serum albumin (prepared by different methods), ovalbumin, human hemoglobin, and gelatin as a function of pH, salinity, and concentrations of components in aqueous medium was studied by adsorption and photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) methods. Comparison of equilibrium (incubation time t(i) approximately 1 h) adsorption of proteins on A-300, minute (t(i) approximately 1 min) flocculation rate, and the particle size distributions measured by the PCS method shows different rearrangement of particle swarms depending on pH, salinity, and concentration of proteins, especially at pH close to IEP of silica or proteins. The electrokinetic mobility of protein/silica swarms is greater than that of individual components at pH far from the IEP of proteins. Changes in the Gibbs free energy (DeltaG) on protein adsorption depend on pH (-DeltaG is minimal at pH 2, close to the IEP of silica, and maximal at pH between the IEP of protein and silica), concentration (-DeltaG is maximal at C(p) between 1 and 6 mg/ml), type of proteins, and their preparation technique.  相似文献

An investigation of the presence of some radioactive isotopes in the bottom sediments of two lakes, Piaseczno and Masluchowskie (Middle East of Poland) has been performed. Similar measurements were done at the Zalew Zemborzycki artificial water reservoir, filled up few years after the most intensive period of atmospheric nuclear explosions. It was estimated, that the concentration of radionuclides, especially of artificial origin was much greater in natural lakes than in examined artificial one. That testifies for an accumulation of radioactive substances on the bottom of the water tanks. The confirmation of this thesis may be the fact, that 85% of137Cs detected in Zalew Zemborzycki comes from Chemobyl fallout while in natural lakes this isotope amounts only to 56–60%. Other isotopes, such as210Pb,226Ra, and224Ra were detected in significant amounts. The radioactivity of239,240Pu isotopes reaches 2.2–2.6 Bq/kg for the lakes and 0.7 for Zalew Zemborzycki. The238Pu to239,240Pu ratio suggests, that detected plutonium comes from world fallout.  相似文献

Radon concentration in basements of old buildings in the oldest towns of Lublin region (Zamo, Chelm and Sandomierz) was determined. Two techniques were applied: passive (Pico-rad) and alpha-spectrometry for radon progeny concentration measurement (SILENA). It was found that only 7% of results exceeded a dose limit of 400 Bq·m-3, established for old buildings. Radon concentration levels ranged from 0.2 to 5150 Bq·m-3. Distribution of the results satisfied a log-normal relationship. Applying these two methods at the same time, the radioactive equilibrium factor of radon and its progeny was determined. In the underground ways, open for visitors, no higher radon concentration was observed.  相似文献

The effect of enzymes: lipase from Candida cylindracea (LCc), phospholipase A2 from hog pancreas (PLA2) and phospholipase C from Bacillus cereus (PLC) to modulate wetting properties of solid supported phospholipid bilayers was studied via advancing and receding contact angle measurements of water, formamide and diiodomethane, and calculation of the surface free energy and its components from van Oss et al. (LWAB) and contact angle hysteresis (CAH) approaches. Simultaneously, topography of the studied layers was determined by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The investigated lipid bilayers were transferred on mica plates from subphase of pure water by means of Langmuir-Blodgett and Langmuir-Schaefer techniques. The investigated phospolipid layers were: saturated DPPC (1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine), unsaturated DOPC (1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine), and their mixture DPPC/DOPC. The obtained results revealed that the lipid membrane degradation by the enzymes caused increase in its surface free energy due to the amphiphilic hydrolysis products, which may accumulate in the lipid bilayer. In result activity of the enzymes may increase and then break down the bilayer structure takes place. It is likely that after dissolution of the hydrolysis reaction products in the bulk phase, patches of bare mica surface are accessible, which contribute to the apparent surface free energy changes. Comparison of AFM images and the free energy changes of the layers gives better insight into changes of their properties. The observed gradual increase in the layer surface free energy allows controlling of the hydrolysis process to obtain the surfaces of defined properties.  相似文献

Some results of the extraction of strontium and yttrium from soil samples by concentrated nitric acid are described. The concentration of Sr and Y in the solid was determined by XRF method. The results obtained allowed to elaborate the conditions of acid leaching and to propose an analytical procedure for the determination of 90Sr in samples without their total dissolution.  相似文献
